Information about conflict of interest (COI) editing

edit

Hi, Starthrower1000,

I noticed your recent edit to Willie Soon, and judging by your user page and edit history I'm going to assume you're the Steven Yaskell who has worked with him in the past (please correct me if I'm wrong about that). In general on Wikipedia editors with a close relationship with a subject should disclose this clearly and try to keep their editing on the subject as neutral as possible, and ideally avoid editing their articles at all (for more information, feel free to read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest). If you believe information should be added to or altered in that section, bringing it up on the article's talk page can be a good way to prevent non-neutral editing by letting other editors give feedback.

On a somewhat related subject, adding information promoting your own works (as you seem to have done here) also goes against our policy about self-promotion. If you have any other questions or comments about these edits or Wikipedia policy broadly, feel free to reply here and I'll respond when I'm able.

Have a good day,

You may edit out the inclusion of our co-authored book (Soon-Yaskell) in the Solar site. I was not aware of this infraction. Not that, I assume, you need my approval.
I've explained my edits in the Soon site in the Talk area - which inviteth the dragons for all to see, rip, tear - and eat (if they can). I know Willie very personally, having worked with him as a developmental editor and co-researcher (for free, should you know ) at the H-S/CfA, and becoming a vetted and respected historical science biographer in the meanwhile. We did earn royalties from publishers - though I was secretly hoping Big Oil would give me that big mansion someplace for free most probably thought I earned in the exchange. He lives in Salem, Massachusetts (my birthplace) now with CERES and I suppose, no longer gets any high-paid gladiator grants from Big Oil, if he ever got much in his pocket from them in the first place (not Malibu CA or Manchester, MA) and when I knew him (1997-c. 2001) he lived in a grubby apartment in Dorchester. He didn't' even have a driver's license. Let alone a Maserati.
The little gaslight ants from all the blogs; the legacy papers, the Democratic Socialists of the USA - the energy transfer folks behind Al Gore - and all their donating friends to the cause did a nice, tidy job on him. So he's no longer the big threat that he was now that the academic snakes had their big lunch. With the con pretty much up, as it's looking like, he's vanishing into history, anyway.
I'd avoid using "have a good day." It sounds insincere.
