About the 'Saddam Hussein' article

edit

Hello Skitash,

I saw that you have reverted my edition on 'Saddam Hussein' article and you said that it was repeated in the first paragraph. But I think you didn't read fully the edition. I wrote there, "Saddam Hussein[c] (28 April 1937 – 30 December 2006) was an Iraqi politician, revolutionary and leader of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party, who served as the fifth president of Iraq from 1979 until his overthrow in 2003 during the United States-led invasion of Iraq. He previously served as the vice president from 1968 to 1979 and also as the prime minister from 1979 to 1991 and later from 1994 to 2003. As a leading member of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party, he was a proponent of Ba'athism, a mix of Arab nationalism and Arab socialism...." Now, look at this edition. The party name came into first and for this flow in the 3rd line it is updated from "A leading member of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party" to "As a leading member of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party" - which has matched with flow of 1st line edition. For better understanding, see the changes in the page of 'Saddam Hussein: Difference between revisions'. It is more look to informative, polished & professional. At this moment, I think you have understand this issue. I would like to re-apply the changes. So I request you to don't remove again the edition. Thank you!

Hello. I see what your addition is trying to accomplish, but it ends up making the lede redundant. There's no need to state twice in the opening paragraph that Saddam leads the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party. In my opinion, the opening paragraph mentions Ba'athism way too many times. If you look at the articles of other leaders, the introduction sentence usually lists their core occupations such as "politician" or "military officer" rather than their party leadership role, which isn't a formal occupation and can be covered later in the lede. Thank you for your detailed feedback. I appreciate your point. However, my main goal was to highlight his role as the 'Leader of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party' more prominently, as it was the core of his political identity.

Well, he was not the leader of the entire Ba'ath movement, since the party had split into separate Iraqi and Syrian regional branches. He was specifically the regional secretary of the Iraqi regional branch. In that case, perhaps the third sentence could be rephrased from "A leading member of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party," to "As leader of the Iraqi Ba'ath Party," or leave it unchanged if we want to acknowledge his pre-presidential history in the pre-1966 Ba'ath Party. Thank you for the clarification. But I need to be sure that are you wanting the change just in the 3rd line?

Yes, ideally, per MOS:FIRST. Skitash (talk) 11:20, 2 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Following your suggestion on the exact positioning of his party. We can change it from "As leader of the Iraqi Ba'ath Party" to "As leader of the Ba'ath Party (Iraqi-dominated faction)" for the exact party positioning (by adding this internal link). What do you think?

Hello. My bad, I didn't mean to revert your edit. Edits can easily clash and get caught up in edit conflicts in rapidly edited articles about recent events like this one. Skitash (talk) 15:45, 5 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Oh its ok no problem, that can sometimes happen it's alright. Thank you for the clarification StickJockey786 (talk) 15:57, 5 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

ChatGPT use

edit

Hi! I noticed that you used a source recommended to you by ChatGPT in this edit https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=United_States_support_for_Iraq_during_the_Iran%E2%80%93Iraq_War&diff=1293076830&oldid=1292341582 - the link to the source has "source=chatgpt" in it, and WP:WikiProject AI Cleanup has a script that finds all instances of that across Wikipedia. Anyway, I know it's a while since that edit, but I noticed that the source is an unpublished PDF by a scholar that may well be accurate but isn't peer-reviewed or published, so it's not reliable. You're probably aware of WP:NOLLM which is stricter now than last year - and yeah, ChatGPT often suggests sources that are not suitable for use on Wikipedia. Thanks for all your contributions over the years! Lijil (talk) 08:22, 6 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hey, thank you for pointing that out. As the PDF isn't reliable, I'll go ahead and replace it with the actual polls it cites shortly. Skitash (talk) 13:12, 6 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, awesome! Have a great day! Lijil (talk) 16:01, 6 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, you as well! Skitash (talk) 16:24, 6 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Report concerning disruptive editing by a user

edit

Hello, I would like to report a user who appears to be making disruptive and unsourced edits to several articles related to Lebanon. The username is "Greeko-Phoenician". The affected pages include:

• 2008 Lebanon conflict

• Cedar Revolution

• Battle of Anjar

• Habib Shartouni

• Syrian intervention in the Lebanese Civil War

I reverted some of the edits because they were unsourced or did not appear to comply with Wikipedia’s sourcing standards. However, the user continued re-adding the content, which seems to be developing into an edit war. Could you please review the user’s recent edits and the page histories to determine whether administrative intervention or discussion may be appropriate? Thank you. ~2026-30517-14 (talk) 18:14, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
