Need help
Hi, Shyamal first of all I would thank to you for helping my Draft:Porto Novo Iron Works. I hope your editing will help me to my article will be approved.
Now I need help on other one. Draft:Parangipettai Railway Station it got declined two times. The reason they says wants more reliable sources. After the first decline I have added more than 11 related more important reference. But still it got decline again. So, could you help me on this. thank you. Ahamedpno (talk) 06:10, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Ahamedpno: try to restrict your references to books published by major publishing houses and websites only to reliable ones like Indian Railways. Also see WP:RS. Use the Template:Cite web, Template:Cite book templates as well. Also worth ensuring that you use "my" more cautiously - read WP:OWN. Shyamal (talk) 07:33, 23 April 2024 (UTC)

Moths
On your recent page move, you may not have been aware that an RM kept the name 'Gypsy moth' in 2022. Thanks. Randy Kryn (talk) 13:38, 2 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Randy Kryn:, thank you, I hadn't looked and just did, from the dates, it does not look like the USDA decision was up by then, just the ESA. I would not argue for a change in the New Zealand article
, but I am surprised that no notice of the discussion was posted on Talk:Lymantria_dispar.PS: just saw the discussion at Talk:Lymantria_dispar. Shyamal (talk) 14:53, 2 July 2024 (UTC)
Hi Shyamal. In 2019 you uploaded the file listed above to the Commons. It's a photo of Arthur Vernay and J. C. Faunthorpe, who collected south Asian mammals for the American Museum of Natural History in New York. The photo is currently used in the WP article on Faunthorpe, but the source listed on the Commons page is incorrect: this photo does not appear in the article by Vernay in Natural History 31 (1931), pp. 75–80. Do you have any idea what the correct source might be? I know it's been five years since you uploaded it and worked on the article, but perhaps you can remember what other sources of images you used at the time? Otherwise, since it's not correctly sourced, I'm thinking about removing the photo from the article and substituting a different one. Thanks, Crawdad Blues (talk) 15:09, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Crawdad Blues: Thanks for checking. I have found the source and updated the metadata. Shyamal (talk) 15:23, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
Invitation to participate in a research
Hello,
The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.
You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.
The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .
Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.
Kind Regards,
New in Wikipedia
Hi @Shyamal i am new in Wikipedia - want to learn and explore Wikipedia for better and upskilling. Thanks MPBhopal (talk) 10:33, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
- For starters, why would you post such a message on a random user talk page? Shyamal (talk) 11:39, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
- Sir, you're not any random user to me atleast -- I found your name in Active Admins of Wikipedia - FYI - Pls Don't take me wrong, I just wanted to build connection. As there are only few Indian Admins in Wikipedia. MPBhopal (talk) 05:13, 3 November 2024 (UTC)

Ferdinand Schulz
Hi Shyamal. Since you created Ferdinand Schulz, perhaps you could take a look at recent edits (improvements) made to the article by MalborkHistorian. I believe the changes were made in good faith, but a lot of the new content is unsourced and introduces various MOS:MOS problems. The quick-and-easy solution would be to revert it all and label it all as unconstructive and perhaps even warn Malbork Historian as such, but maybe some of the stuff that added can be kept. The images that were added having various issue that are going to take some sorting out, but the text content that was add, perhaps, just needs some tweaking or can be surgically removed. Given that this seems to be a topic that really interests MalborkHistorian, perhaps the article's talk page could be used to fill them in regarding any problems you might find with their changes. -- Marchjuly (talk) 20:10, 30 November 2024 (UTC)
- Will try, definitely not fun when even the few references have been removed! Shyamal (talk) 04:29, 1 December 2024 (UTC)

Hello, I'm Qwerfjkl (bot). I have automatically detected that this edit performed by you, on the page Neolithic ashmounds, may have introduced referencing errors. They are as follows:
- A missing title error. References show this error when they do not have a title. Please edit the article to add the appropriate title parameter to the reference. (Fix | Ask for help)
Please check this page and fix the errors highlighted. If you think this is a false positive, you can report it to my operator. Thanks, Qwerfjkl (bot) (talk) 12:28, 17 December 2024 (UTC)

Reverted edit
Pls enlighten why you did revert this edit? The link was dead. And still is. I have no interest in the page. Just trying to help. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Heinz_Br%C3%BCcher&oldid=prev&diff=1224229632 Gnurk (talk) 22:59, 28 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Gnurk: Had to read through the history to figure out what had happened. The link was a good one when I added it. Evidently you removed it because the link did not work. That was a very useful external link with rare photographs, so I found an archive page and restored it. Good idea to check link histories before deleting them merely because they are no longer working. Shyamal (talk) 02:28, 29 December 2024 (UTC)

Question from Work.shoaib (04:27, 25 April 2025)
Hello, i have created my first wiki page how to make it globally available please let me know --Work.shoaib (talk) 04:27, 25 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Work.shoaib: - welcome, I have added a post with a list of basic guidelines for you to read up. A primary read should be Wikipedia:What_Wikipedia_is_not which should explain what the purpose of an encyclopedia is. If you have seen Encyclopedia Britannica or other such works you will not find many entries about companies such as "Dozco India". To see what might make it notable, see the guidelines at Wikipedia:Notability_(organizations_and_companies). Until that can be demonstrated your entry cannot be usable. Shyamal (talk) 04:34, 25 April 2025 (UTC)
Can you assess my draft about Dozco and tel me what to change so it can be publish to wiki --Work.shoaib (talk) 10:41, 25 April 2025 (UTC)
- I hope you have read the links posted above. In addition, could you 1) mention whether you work Dozco 2) what is the importance of the entry being on Wikipedia? 3) Is there any independent book or paper coverage of this company? Shyamal (talk) 11:00, 25 April 2025 (UTC)

- @Wakabenga: have marked a couple as "patrolled", some of the others could do with some improvements to the referencing. Shyamal (talk) 12:20, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
- would you mind listing which of them i could improve.
- and when you say improvement to the refrencing does it mean some refrences are wrongly placed or more references are needed.
- im sorry to bother you once more. Thanks @1# Wakabenga 12:30, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
- I was wondering if you have any better sources - esp. print, music magazines or such like. Shyamal (talk) 13:40, 2 May 2025 (UTC)

University Sanatorium
Dear Shyamal,
I am currently working on the international University Sanatorium movement. As you have created the article of Louis Vauthier (which is nonexistent in other languages) I was just wondering if you have any further information of university sanatoria besides the one in Switzerland? It seemed that you have been living in India, and therefore you might know something about the two indian university sanatoria that were founded in 1952? Any hints on publications, archival information etc. is much appreciated!
All best
Krähe Kafkas Krähe (talk) 15:33, 29 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Kafkas Krähe: - thanks for asking! Unfortunately, the motivation for creating that entry came not from an interest (or knowledge) in the phenomenon of "university sanatoria" (which I am not really aware of, and none from India either) but because I was trawling through a historic Indian periodical called The Modern Review where I found a copyright-free photograph of Vauthier. I hope you find more information and are able to throw light on it through a new entry and weave it into the existing content. There are some Indian medical historians who have looked at tuberculosis sanatoria and the so-called lock hospitals - I am sure you would have looked them up too but posting some potentially helpful sources to follow up here - doi:10.18203/2394-6040.ijcmph20210259 doi:10.1016/S0041-3879(26)80037-6 JSTOR 40277857 this this Tambaram Sanatorium Chowry Muthu Jean_Saidman - Shyamal (talk) 02:22, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for the detailed answer! I will definitely have a look at the material and especially the Indian periodical. Kafkas Krähe (talk) 11:28, 31 July 2025 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – August 2025
News and updates for administrators from the past month (July 2025).
- Following a request for comment, a new speedy deletion criterion, G15, has been enacted. It applies to pages generated by a large language model (LLM) without human review.
- Following a request for comment, there is a new policy outlining the granting of permissions to view the IP addresses of temporary accounts. Temporary account deployment on the English Wikipedia is currently scheduled for September 2025, and editors can request access to the permission ahead of time. Admins are encouraged to keep an eye on the request page; there will likely be a flood of editors requesting the permission when they realize they can no longer see IP addresses.
- Administrators can now restrict the "Add a Link" feature to newcomers. The "Add a Link" Structured Task helps new account holders get started with editing. Administrators can configure this setting in the Community Configuration page.
- The arbitration case Indian military history has been closed.
- South Asia (WP:CT/SA) is designated a contentious topic. The topic area is specifically defined as
All pages related to the region of South Asia (India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal), broadly construed, including but not limited to history, politics, ethnicity, and social groups.
- The contentious topic designations for Sri Lanka (SL) and India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan (IPA) are folded into this new contentious topic.
- The community-authorized general sanctions regarding South Asian social groups (GS/CASTE) are rescinded and folded into this new contentious topic.
- South Asia (WP:CT/SA) is designated a contentious topic. The topic area is specifically defined as
- The arbitration case Article titles and capitalisation 2 has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case closed on 31 July.
- The arbitration case Transgender healthcare and people has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case will close on 11 August.
