Hi there! Thanks for your comment. I am new to making pages on Wikipedia and trying to make a page for a colleague. Which are the independent sources here? I don't understand what the difference is between that and other sources. This is a very notable person – should I just reference their publications more? Or try to add more media based citations? Hi, notability in Wikipedia means something quite different from the ordinary use of the word. In Wikipedia it is strictly about the extent to which there are multiple sources that are fully independent of the subject (person in this case), that are trustworthy (reliable) sources, and that provide significant coverage of the subject ( ie not just a passing mentions). So this means that notability is not established by self-published sources, or by sources with a close connection to the subject ( eg their employer).
Thanks for mentioning that you are writing this for a colleague - I presume the colleague is the subject ? There is a formal way of declaring that you are connected to the subject. (Ie there is a potential or actual conflict of interest). This declaration is important so that readers and reviewers know to particularly look for neutral point of view and balance etc. This Articles for Creation can handle articles like this that are prepared by a connected contributor. If you are a connected contributor then the guidance would be that once the article is reviewed and accepted, you should generally refrain from further edits.
I am travelling and don't have my laptop with me, so only have my phone, and can't fully review the most recent additions but they look promising.
I don't expect to be available again for a month. If no other editor has responded over that time, I will try to help get it accepted. In the meantime, if you are a connected contributor for this subject, please make a simple declaration along those lines in the comments section. There is a connected contributor template that can go on the talk page, although that can probably wait at this stage. I hope this helps. I can probably respond to posts on this page.
