  • Special report: What actually happened during the Wikimedia security incident?
A horrifying exploit took place, which could have had catastrophic and far-reaching consequences if used maliciously; instead, it seems to have happened by accident and was used for childish vandalism. How did this happen, and what did the script actually do?

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Regarding your recent edits to Allen House (Boulder, Colorado) when you modified the page, you introduced unknown parameters. Just because you specify |some_param=some_variable does not always mean that variable will display. The |some_param= must be defined in the template. You can look at the documentation for the template you are using but it is also helpful to use the preview button before you save your edit; this helps you find any errors you have made and ensure that the values you have added are displaying correctly. Below the edit box is a Show preview button. Pressing this will show you what the page will look like without actually saving it. It is strongly recommended that you use this before saving. Note I have likely fixed the error by now so check the history of the page to see how it was fixed. If you have any questions, contact the help desk for assistance. Thank you. You gave done this to multiple pages. Please check your edits. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 02:57, 12 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
The Infobxes are inconsisent - and I don't see any visual feedback when a parameter is wrong. - Scarpy (talk) 03:00, 12 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
If you use preview, you will see a nice big red warning of which parameters are wrong. Them not being consistent is not a valid excuse as all the issues you presented were the same infobox... {{Infobox building}}. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 03:02, 12 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
You're saying if I restore, on the Egan page for example, and preview, I'll see text pointing this out? - Scarpy (talk)
Oh yeah it does. Okay I will do that from now on. - Scarpy (talk) 03:06, 12 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Related - why is there so much variance between all of these infoboxes? Some of them are completely useless because of it. Like the infobox for yacht clubs is pointless. - Scarpy (talk) 03:06, 12 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
It is a well known problem... Every Infobox is created by someone different and they don't always follow the same guidelines. Something we are trying to fix... But you always need to check the preview and check the documentation.... Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 03:35, 12 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Why is it different from citation templates and other things where issues are visible in the preview and in the article if they're not corrected? And what material problems does this cause? Is there a way to check without doing a preview? Like you must have something that alerts you when this happens, can I just check whatever that is? - Scarpy (talk) 03:51, 12 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
You can check the unknown parameter category related to the template you are using... But that is actually more work. Previewing your edits is a basic requirement of editing... Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 03:56, 12 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
I take your point and I get that is is frustrating for you, though I'm baffled as to why. Again, what's the material consequence here other than that some information may not display in an infobox? I'll preview because I don't like the talk page noise. But no where is it listed that previewing is a basic requirement for editing in WP:EDITING or any place else I'm aware of or can find. - Scarpy (talk) 04:04, 12 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
If you do not preview your edits, you have no idea what they will look like. You clearly are not checking your work at all as the information you are entering into the Infoboxes is not showing up on the page as you are using invalid code. Not really interested in going in circles with you. If you want to be a constructive member of the editing community, please check your work properly. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 04:06, 12 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Now you're making a different argument. I think we can agree that previewing is a best practice, but not a requirement for editing. I've made a lot of valuable contributions to Wikipedia over the course of 16,000 edits and 19 years. Anyone who cares to look can see that, and would see that the quality of my contributions speaks for themselves. I asked several good faith questions that have went unanswered. That's not going around in circles, that's just being curious. - Scarpy (talk) 04:11, 12 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Denver Film Festival, a link pointing to the disambiguation page City of Hope (film) was added. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ  Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

File:Hiawatha Theatre (proleptically Esquire Theatre) Denver 1927 opening.jpg listed for discussion

edit

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:Hiawatha Theatre (proleptically Esquire Theatre) Denver 1927 opening.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Files for discussion. Please see the discussion to see why it has been listed (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry). Feel free to add your opinion on the matter below the nomination. Thank you. thejiujiangdragon 🔥🐉 00:03, 22 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

The photograph depicts the theater in late 1927, but the digital file was sourced from the Denver Landmark Preservation Commission’s 2024 staff report (denvergov.org PDF), not from a confirmed pre-1928 publication. The original publication venue of the photograph have not been established. Until the image can be located in a specific pre-1928 source such as a contemporary newspaper, the pre-1930 PD assumption is unverified and the non-free use rationale under NFCC should be retained. If a pre-1928 publication can be confirmed, I’m happy to re-upload to Commons with the appropriate PD tag. Scarpy (talk) 00:36, 22 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Lakeside Leagues

@DraconicDark Hey thanks for this. @JTtheOG and I had this discussion on Talk:Clayton_Long_Trophy. All of the sources for this articles are sound and I will do clean room rewrites. I'll reiterate I was unaware of the recent policy regarding us to the AI to assist with prose. - Scarpy (talk) 04:03, 6 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Importantly here - this template makes it look like I added AI assisted prose after the first the discussion with JTtheOG, which is false. - Scarpy (talk) 13:53, 6 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
To be clear here - between May 21 and 25 of 2026 I created articles (with sourcing I still standby, but admittedly AI prose) these were Clayton Long Trophy, Cohen Media Group, Helen Jean Spiller,
Frank H. Ricketson Jr., Fox Intermountain Theatres,
Lakeside Leagues,
Cooper Cinerama Theater,
Denham Theatre
 and
Orchestraphone. @JTtheOG tagged these with
{{AI-generated}} on May 25th and left a template on my talk page. We had a discussion on Talk:Clayton Long Trophy where I told him I wasn't aware of the new policies (new to me, at least) and said I would clean-up the existing article and not further use LLMs or, specifically in my case, AI assisted prose.
A helpful Wikipedian did the cleanup on the
Denham Theatre
 article on June 3rd.
@DraconicDark left the above template on June 5 and a PROD on Lakeside Leagues
Today I completed a rewrite of the Lakeside Leagues article. Feel free to let me know if you have any remaining concerns there.
I'll continue with the cleanup of the other seven articles as soon as I can get to them.
All of that being said DraconicDark - the the template you left on my talk page, I wish you would strike. Between my conversation with JTtheOG on May 25 and June 5th I didn't edit Wikipedia and add AI assisted prose, but the template you left would indicate otherwise. I realize there's a lot of threads to follow here, and I'm not trying to dodge anything. But the template above implies between May 25 and June 5th going back on what I said I wouldn't do when I talked with JTtheOG. - Scarpy (talk) 07:25, 7 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
