Welcome!

Hello, Saakibrahman, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you created or edited was Saquib Rahman, which appears to be an article about yourself. Writing about yourself is a common mistake made by new Wikipedians.

As this is an encyclopedia, we wouldn't expect to have an article about every contributor. We require individuals to meet Wikipedia's definition of a notable person to accept articles about them. A page you created about yourself may well be deleted from the encyclopedia. If it is deleted and you wish to retrieve its contents, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

If your contributions to an existing article about yourself are undone and you wish to add to or change it, please propose the changes on its talk page.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Hello, thank you for offering to help.
Regarding Professor Rahman's article, I get why this confusion has arisen but I have already addressed it with another moderator on my talk page. I am simply an undergrad economics student at the university where Professor Rahman teaches. We have the same name with a different spelling- Sakib vs Saquib.
I created the article because many of my friends had done his law classes and he is a popular social media personality at my university. Regardless, thank you for raising your concerns.

Introduction to contentious topics

edit

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template. Philipnelson99 (talk) 19:43, 19 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in the Syrian Civil War and ISIL. Due to past disruption in this topic area, the community has authorised uninvolved administrators to impose contentious topics restrictions—such as editing restrictions, bans, or blocks—on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, expected standards of behaviour, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on these sanctions. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Non-notable alumni

edit

Information icon Hello. Your recent edit to North South University appears to have added the name of a non-notable entity to a list that normally includes only notable entries. In general, a person, organization or product added to a list should have a pre-existing article before being added to most lists. If you wish to create such an article, please first confirm that the subject qualifies for a separate, stand-alone article according to Wikipedia's notability guideline. Thank you. --Worldbruce (talk) 23:27, 19 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the suggestion. Since Wikipedia sorely lacks separate profiles for many significantly prominent Bangladeshi figures, I will stick to the ones with pre-established wikipedia pages. Saakibrahman (talk) 09:17, 20 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Mohammad Ishfaqul Mazid, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page 9th Infantry Division. Extended confirmed restriction of Arab–Israeli conflict contentious topic

edit

Hi Saakibrahman, your recent edits to the MintPress News article (Special:Diff/1290594310/1292107070) and the Talk:MintPress News talk page (Special:Diff/1292107856) violated the extended confirmed restriction of the Arab–Israeli conflict contentious topic (WP:CT/A-I), and have been reverted. As stated at the top of Talk:MintPress News, MintPress News is covered under the Arab–Israeli conflict contentious topic area, and you must have made at least 500 edits on English Wikipedia before you are eligible to edit in this topic area. The only exception is making non-disruptive edit requests on the talk page; your edit Special:Diff/1292107856 is a general complaint about the article and a personal attack against other editors, which is not considered an edit request. Please review the contentious topics procedure for more information. Thanks. — Newslinger talk 09:15, 25 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Apologies, but usually, there is a warning while attempting to edit an extended confirmed restriction article. As such, I mistakenly assumed that it had no protection. I suggest that there be a clear warning in that case. Furthermore, I had NO intention of attacking fellow editors. It was clearly a comment on how the article clearly violates Wikipedia's rules regarding neutrality and unbiased content. The entire article clearly dismisses the site as a left-wing source of disinformation. My humble suggestion would be to initiate a removal of contentious content as I could clearly see multiple violations of Wikipedia's core values. Moreoever, this was clearly a frequent complaint in the talk section of the article. Hence, a thorough review of the article would be most advised.
Thank you for your time and best regards. Saakibrahman (talk) 09:29, 25 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
Yes, the MintPress News article lacked editnotices to notify editors about the contentious topic restrictions, and I've just added the ones that are applicable. Thank you for bringing up that issue. MintPress News is an article that covers many contentious topics, so I've sent you additional notifications in #Introduction to contentious topics to notify you of all of them.
Please note that you are still allowed to make edit requests on Talk:MintPress News, but they should follow the considerations at Wikipedia:Edit requests § General considerations, particularly the first bullet point which states that edit requests should ask for specific changes.
In Special:Diff/1292121203, the part that was a personal attack is your claim that the article "seems to have been taken over by right-wing editors", which is an allegation regarding other editors' political affiliations. Please note that Wikipedia:No personal attacks § What is considered to be a personal attack? contains the entry "Using someone's political affiliations as an ad hominem means of dismissing or discrediting their views, such as accusing them of being left-wing or right-wing, is also forbidden." There are more effective ways to get your point across without commenting on editors, which is elaborated in the policy of focusing on content. — Newslinger talk 09:51, 25 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your analyzing my claims. I will be sure to avoid that mistake again as I was not aware of that rule.
Best regards! Saakibrahman (talk) 09:55, 25 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable non-free use File:General Mahbubur Rahman.png

edit

Thanks for uploading File:General Mahbubur Rahman.png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file's talk page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. Manual of Style - Credentials

edit

Wikipedia's Manual of Style instructs editors not to use academic and professional titles or degrees (such as "Doctor", "Professor", or PhD) before or after names.

This may seem strange if you come from a culture where such titles are normally used. Fifty years ago in West Germany, for instance, one would never have referred to a male professor except by the almost militaristic "Herr Doktor Professor". The use of such titles is less common in Commonwealth countries (the Dictionary of National Biography, for example, avoids them), and is even more rare in the United States, where it would sound like sycophancy.

In any case, the English-language Wikipedia has adopted a standard of not using them. You can see the style in action at such articles as List of Nobel laureates by country and good articles about universities, such as King's College London and Texas State University. Don't include "Professor" or "Dr." --Worldbruce (talk) 18:59, 2 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello, thank you for reviewing the page. But this actually isn't an autobiography. He is a professor at the university I study in, which is North South University. We just happen to have the same name (Saquib Rahman vs Sakib Rahman) and I just created the page because he is a huge social media (Facebook mostly) personality at my university. So you can remove the auto-bio tag, but I suppose you can keep the close connection tag. This is because although I do not know him personally, I have friends who have done his basic-level law classes.
