Edit summaries

edit

Information icon Hello! Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia! I noticed that your recent edits to Mi'kmaq language did not have an edit summary. Please use the edit summary field to explain your reasoning for an edit and/or to describe what it changes. Summaries save time for other editors and reduce the chances that your edits will be misunderstood. Even something short is better than nothing, for example "ce" is short for "copy edit" and means general fixes like grammar, spelling, and formatting.

The edit summary field looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

or in the visual editor:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)
Describe what you changed

Please provide an edit summary for every edit you make. When logged in to your Wikipedia account, you can give yourself a reminder by setting Preferences Editing Tick Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary (or the default undo summary), and then click the "Save" button.

Thanks! W.andrea (talk) 14:11, 13 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello! This is a reminder that you need to start using edit summaries. Not doing so could be considered disruptive. Thanks. — W.andrea (talk) 11:30, 14 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Roving Huntsman: you really need to start doing this now. Consider it an administrative warning. Disruptive editors are at risk of having their edit privileges suspended. DMacks (talk) 09:45, 10 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Richard Oswald (merchant), a link pointing to the disambiguation page Georgia was added. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ  Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, --DPL bot (talk) 18:08, 9 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

MOS:VAR

edit

Hello Roving Huntsman, thank you for your edits but you may wish to have a quick glance at MOS:VAR (or more specifically MOS:US). Making edits based on style preferences is generally considered to be disruptive-- though your edits cleaning up syntax and fixing grammar are absolutely helpful. Happy editing!
