My Request for Adminship

edit
Thanks for contributing to my RfA! Thank you for your support in my my RfA, which passed with a tally of 117/0/1. I hope that my conduct as an admin lives up to the somewhat flattering confidence the community has shown in me. I'm suprised it took until support #53 for the inevitable "I thought he already was one" line to show up (and I'd like to thank you for bringing up that cliche), but unlike many candidates I actually was a sysop at the time of my RfA (if not on en.wikipedia). Please don't hesitate to leave a message on my talk page should you need anything or want to discuss something with me.--Nilfanion (talk) 16:19, 9 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

My RFA

edit

Hey, thanks so much for supporting my recent RFA. A number of editors considered that I wasn't ready for the mop yet and unfortunately the RFA did not succeed (69/26/11). There are a number of areas which I will be working on (including changing my username) in the next few months in order to allay the fears of those who opposed my election to administrator.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you sincerely for your support over the past week. I've been blown away by the level of interest taken in my RFA and appreciate the time and energy dedicated by all the editors who have contributed to it, support, oppose and neutral alike. I hope to bump into you again soon and look forward to serving you and Wikipedia in any way I can. Cheers! Hey Rory, I just wanted to say thanks for the good debate, and for being committed to Wikipedia. You are experienced in here, you have fought some good battles for the movement, and do believe that you know what you're talking about. I hope I can learn more from you about the way this mess, and others, really work. - Freechild 23:27, 24 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Just wanted to take another moment to apologize for beefing with you. I still need to learn from you how to "do" WP. - 06:08, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Black History Month vandalism by User_talk:209.158.179.245

edit

Re: User_talk:209.158.179.245 This person just did some more vandalism after your much earlier warning to him. Can something be done? bob -  uriel8  (talk) 16:07, 8 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I gave him a warning. You can do this yourself, see WP:WARN. Once a user gets a level 4 warning and then vandalizes again, you can report it to WP:AIV to get an admin to block the user. --Rory096 17:59, 8 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Rory - thanks for letting me know about the history moving action at Fear of children. The same will probably need to be done at Fear of youth? - Freechild 06:26, 1 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yep, I've tagged that article too. In the future, use the "move" tab at the top of every page. --Rory096 06:28, 1 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello regarding your roll back script is it possible I can only get the small roll back part? I tried everything if you may direct me to the code I would appreciate it, thank you. Lakers 07:51, 1 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

My particular script does more than just rollback (it also allows me to customize the edit summary with a little popup and opens the user's talk page for me). If you want mine, you can go to User:Rory096/monobook.js, it's the first one, or, if you just want the rollback function in general, you can go to WP:TW, which is a similar script. --Rory096 07:54, 1 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps, but it seemed to be in good faith and there was a lot of vandalism this morning, so there wasn't really very much time for warnings for those who weren't vandalizing. --Rory096 22:53, 1 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

From the page you linked me: "Notice on linking to YouTube, Google Video, and other similar sites:

There is no ban on linking to these sites as long as the links abide by these guidelines. From Wikipedia:Copyright: If you know that an external Web site is carrying a work in violation of the creator's copyright, do not link to that copy of the work."

Please do not make edits of this nature in the future. 74.98.240.135 01:49, 2 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

That's not the reason I removed your link. The video you linked to, even if it was not a copyright violation, was not only completely unencyclopaedic, but also entirely unrelated to the subject. There's no reason to have a link to that in the article you put it in, or any article for that matter. --Rory096 03:05, 2 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Your comment at Hemlock Martinis RfA

edit

I'm not sure that I've fully understood your comment about "myspace". If the candidate has written any articles (even stubs) that would obviously be a plus, however, from his answers he only mentions an article where he formatted citations pointing to other Wikipedia articles. Addhoc 19:29, 8 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I mean that talk page edits, projectspace edits, and especially user talk page edits are not nearly as important as mainspace edits, because Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and we're here to make Wikipedia better, so those aren't valid reasons to oppose. --Rory096 19:44, 8 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

A very Californian RfA thanks from Luna Santin

edit
Thanks for your support in my not-so-recent RfA, which succeeded with a final tally of (97/4/4)! I've never been able to accept compliments gracefully, and the heavy support from this outstanding community left me at a complete loss for words -- so, a very belated thank you for all of your kind words.

I have done and will continue to do the utmost to serve the community in this new capacity, wherever it may take me, and to set an example others might wish to follow in. With a little luck and a lot of advice, this may be enough. Maybe someday the enwiki admins of the future will look back and say, "Yeah, that guy was an admin." Hopefully then they don't start talking about the explosive ArbComm case I got tied into and oh what a drama that was, but we'll see, won't we?

Surely some of you have seen me in action by now; with that in mind, I openly invite and welcome any feedback here or here -- help me become the best editor and sysop I can be.

Again, thank you. –Luna Santin

Shame I don't see you about more often. Hope this finds you in good health and spirits. Luna Santin (talk) 00:41, 23 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
