Hi Rhododendrites,

This is to let you know that File:BLM mural in Greenpoint (35406p).jpg, a featured picture you uploaded, has been selected as the English Wikipedia's picture of the day (POTD) for May 25, 2025. A preview of the POTD is displayed below and can be edited at Template:POTD/2025-05-25. If you have any concerns, please place a message at Wikipedia talk:Picture of the day. Thank you! Black Lives Matter art

Many artworks related to the Black Lives Matter movement have been created. These works are seen as a direct tribute to those who have died or more broadly to the movement. Often the pieces are created in the streets as to be more publicly visible. This mural in Greenpoint, Brooklyn lists the names of African Americans killed by law enforcement officers in the United States, ending with George Floyd, whose murder on May 25, 2020 sparked global protests that raised the visibility of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Hi there. You recently made some edits to this page: Misinformation related to abortion. I wanted to let you know, that I personally agree with you. I personally believe that it should be presented as fact, as you did in your edit that "it is not possible for the fetus to experience pain before 24 weeks of gestation" instead of "The prevailing viewpoint among most medical organizations..." I also agree with you that we should not be including a minority viewpoint most present in the Linacre Quarterly - a Catholic Medical journal.

Unfortunately, there is an anti-abortion advocate who's extremely active on the talk page and trying to come to consensus on certain things has made things clunky. The way the section is phrased now is what was begrudgingly agreed to on the talk page. So, unfortunately, I have tentatively reverted your edit in favor of the one that was technically reached by consensus since that just happened today.

That being said, if you feel strongly, and prepared to wade into the talk page of that article, feel free to keep the conversation going as to why that part should potentially be changed. (I definitely would be in favor of that paragraph being more definitive toward the current medical literature.) InquisitiveWikipedian (talk) 01:31, 7 April 2025 (UTC)

Doesn't seem ideal when the best sources don't appear to equivocate. Posted over at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Medicine#Misinformation_related_to_abortion_could_use_some_additional_eyes_from_this_project to get additional opinions. Looks like the talk page was mostly a back-and-forth between the two of you. Rhododendrites talk \\ 03:14, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
Agreed. Thank you for saying so. And yeah, it's mainly me and him and I think two other editors have chimed in now and again on some of the topics. I'm trying to be as collaborative as possible without completely threatening the integrity of the page. So, I appreciate you trying to get more people in the conversation. Thank you InquisitiveWikipedian (talk) 03:25, 7 April 2025 (UTC)

Query

I'm currently writing the article for the Official White House Portraits of Barack and Michelle Obama that were comissioned by the White House Historical Association. I've previously written the official portraits of the Reagans, the Clintons and the Bushes. Your incredible research of Michelle's portrait would be vital to and most welcome in the article - would you like to add it once I have launched the article or could I interpolate it and main article a link on the Sharon Sprung page? I'm not sure how to proceed! Regards No Swan So Fine (talk) 22:25, 27 April 2025 (UTC)

Hi No Swan So Fine - glad you'll be working on that article. Probably what makes sense is to expand the summary in the Sprung article and add a {{main}} template, and add a brief summary of Sprung to the article you're working on? I'm pretty overwhelmed with real-life projects at the moment, but happy to take a look at the article when it's available. Rhododendrites talk \\ 20:19, 28 April 2025 (UTC)

Update: New Event-Organizer Tools for You on English Wikipedia!

Hello,

I hope you're doing well! As an event coordinator on English Wikipedia, I’m happy to share some news with you. You now have the event-organizer right! This gives you access to the CampaignEvents extension, a powerful set of tools to help you organize and promote events and WikiProjects more easily. With the CampaignEvents extension, you can:

  • Manage event registration directly on English Wikipedia.
  • Use the Invitation List tool to find potential participants for your events/WikiProjects
  • Receive automatic promotion of your events via the Collaboration List

Learn more on mw:Help:Extension:CampaignEvents

Now that I have your attention, I’d also like to share some updates to the extension:

  • The Collaboration List can now be transcluded, meaning you can easily embed it on other wiki pages to share event details with more people by adding {{Special:AllEvents}}. Learn more.
  • Admins can now determine which namespaces are permitted for Event Registration on English Wikipedia, via Special:CommunityConfiguration. Right now, the Event namespace is permitted by default for Event Registration. However, other namespaces (such as Wikipedia, WikiProject, etc) can now be added as permitted namespaces by admins too. This can help other types of organized activities, such as WikiProjects, use Event Registration. For details, please visit: Permitted_namespaces

If you need help using these new tools, I’m here to support you. Feel free to reach out for guidance. You can also find some useful video guides on Commons.

We’re excited to see how you use these tools for WikiProjects or events! If you have any questions, please let me know.

Hell Gate Bridge

The Hell Gate Bridge is a railroad bridge in New York City, United States. The bridge carries two tracks of Amtrak's Northeast Corridor and one freight track between Astoria, Queens, and Port Morris, Bronx, via Randalls and Wards Islands. Its main span is a 1,017-foot (310 m) steel through arch across Hell Gate, a strait of the East River that separates Wards Island from Queens. The New York Connecting Railroad began construction of the bridge in 1912, and it opened in 1917. The main span, a two-hinged arch flanked by stone towers on either bank of Hell Gate, was the world's longest steel arch bridge until the Bayonne Bridge opened in 1931. It is one of the few rail connections from Long Island, of which Queens is part, to the rest of the United States. This panoramic photograph shows the main span of the Hell Gate Bridge. The photograph was taken in 2023 looking northeast from the neighboring Robert F. Kennedy Bridge, with Wards Island on the left of the image and Astoria on the right. A tugboat tows a barge in the foreground towards the Hell Gate Bridge.
