Regarding additions to the "Film industry" section
editHi, thanks for your recent additions to the "Film industry" section — the details on Ouarzazate and Atlas Studios are informative and add valuable context.
Just a quick note: per WP:V and WP:NPOV, a few of the new claims (such as recent filming activity, factors behind global demand, and popularity of the studio) should ideally be supported by reliable sources. Also, phrases like "huge demand" or "especially high international appeal" might be better reworded to maintain an encyclopedic tone.
If you can add citations for those parts, it would really help strengthen the section and align it with Wikipedia’s content policies.
Thanks again for contributing to the article! Gvihar 21:18, 27 July 2025 (UTC)
- Great - will go through tomorrow or Tuesday and edit out the those phrases and get citations/sources for those claims! ReelWanderer (talk) 21:54, 27 July 2025 (UTC)
Wikipedia and copyright
edit
Hello ReelWanderer! Your additions to Ouarzazate have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably free and compatible copyright license—to request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, it's important to understand and adhere to guidelines about using information from sources to prevent copyright and plagiarism issues. Here are the key points:
- Limited quotation: You may only copy or translate a small portion of a source. Any direct quotations must be enclosed in double quotation marks (") and properly cited using an inline citation. More information is available on the non-free content page. To learn how to cite a source, see Help:Referencing for beginners.
- Paraphrasing: Beyond limited quotations, you are required to put all information in your own words. Following the source's wording too closely can lead to copyright issues and is not permitted; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when paraphrasing, you must still cite your sources as appropriate.
- Image use guidelines: In most scenarios, only freely licensed or public domain images may be used and these should be uploaded to our sister project, Wikimedia Commons. In some scenarios, non-freely copyrighted content can be used if they meet all ten of our non-free content criteria; Wikipedia:Plain and simple non-free content guide may help with determining a file's eligibility.
- Copyrighted material donation: If you hold the copyright to the content you want to copy, or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license the text for publication here. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- Copying and translation within Wikipedia: Wikipedia articles can be copied or translated, however they must have proper attribution in accordance with Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. For translation, see Help:Translation § Licensing.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices. Persistent failure to comply may result in being blocked from editing. If you have any questions or need further clarification, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. —Compassionate727 (T·C) 12:24, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
- In addition to the copyright problem, I reverted your edits because the tone was too promotional. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Words to watch#Puffery for guidance on the kinds of words that stood out to me as problematic. Feel free to ask if you have any questions. —Compassionate727 (T·C) 12:26, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
- Hi thanks for this - this is all super helpful. Is there anyway i could relook at the original copy - how do I do that, to know what to take out, edit? ReelWanderer (talk) 15:16, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
- Also is there a way to practise via the sandbox and have someone review it before i post it, and hopefully get a better idea of how to successfully write wikipedia pieces! ReelWanderer (talk) 15:27, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
- There is not a way to view the deleted revisions, but I can tell you that the copyright problem stemmed from text you copied from https://discoverouarzazate.com/destinations/studio-oasis/. If you ask, the administrator who deleted the revisions (Moneytrees) might be willing to provide you with contents of your edit provided you don't simply repost them as-is, but they might not, especially given the other problems.
- And yes, you can always practice via a sandbox (I would suggest using your own, User:ReelWanderer/sandbox). You can then ask me to look at it, or ask at e.g. the Teahouse. (Copyright problems will be deleted anywhere, of course.) If you were writing a new article, WikiProject Articles for creation could help, but because you are just revising one, they probably won't. —Compassionate727 (T·C) 18:11, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
- How would i message MoneyTrees as can'r see an option. As I spent a good few hours on sourcing all the info and the citations would love to have that and edit from that, and also pick up and go through feedback of what was considered not workable for WIkipedia. Best way to learn! Seems unfair to delete it - if i am going to eidt within sandbox, now i know the best way of doing things ReelWanderer (talk) 19:18, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
- As in understand reasons it was taken off but not to allow me chance to go through it, especially as is my sort of first rodeo with all this! ReelWanderer (talk) 19:23, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
- You can ask him on his talk page, User talk:Moneytrees. I am sympathetic to your position but don't actually have the power or authority to help you with deleted revisions. —Compassionate727 (T·C) 01:19, 29 July 2025 (UTC)
