November 2025
edit
Please do not add or change content, as you did at British Rail Class 175, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources to see how to add references to an article. Thank you. Danners430 tweaks made 09:43, 6 November 2025 (UTC)
- It was a moving image unless you believe it's AI created. There's other sources, but it's easier to revert than find them REVUpminster (talk) 10:03, 6 November 2025 (UTC)
- It's a simple case of being user-generated content - it's not a reliable source. If you have a genuinely reliable source, then by all means. Danners430 tweaks made 10:05, 6 November 2025 (UTC)
- This is a facebook group with contributing members. No different to a magazine or newspaper with contributing writers which are often cited. Can we trust the BBC anymore after employee contributors rearranged videos of Trump? REVUpminster (talk) 14:42, 6 November 2025 (UTC)
- Please have a read of WP:UGC. It's not a reliable source not because I say so, but because policy says so. Danners430 tweaks made 15:00, 6 November 2025 (UTC)

And which of the five conditions does it violate? REVUpminster (talk) 19:35, 6 November 2025 (UTC)
Websites whose content is largely user-generated are generally unacceptable as sources. Sites with user-generated content include personal websites, personal and group blogs (excluding newspaper and magazine blogs), Internet forums, social media sites, fansites, video and image hosting services, most wikis, and other collaboratively created websites.

Examples of unacceptable user-generated sources are Ancestry.com, Discogs, Facebook, Famous Birthdays, Fandom, Find a Grave, Goodreads, IMDb, Instagram, Know Your Meme, Reddit, Snapchat, TikTok, Tumblr, TV Tropes, X (Twitter), WhoSampled, and Wikipedia (self referencing). For official accounts from celebrities and organizations on social media, see the section about self-published sources below.

Partial cite
editHi, can you please add a full citation at British Rail Class 175? The title isn’t “Today’s Railways”, that’s the name of the magazine - we need the name of the article. Also it’s a magazine, not a journal. Danners430 tweaks made 19:59, 5 December 2025 (UTC)
- Strangely when you bring down templates it dosen't show one for magazines, so I found one in the article and adapted it,REVUpminster (talk) 20:26, 5 December 2025 (UTC)
- You're not the first! This could be an opportunity to fix this once and for all… where is it you're seeing this? Danners430 tweaks made 20:36, 5 December 2025 (UTC)
- I did find the template for magazine somehow, but have lost it. The only templates on the pull dowm are web news book journal REVUpminster (talk) 21:36, 5 December 2025 (UTC)
- No I mean where is this “pull down”? Danners430 tweaks made 21:45, 5 December 2025 (UTC)
- When I do an edit there is even on a talk page there is a cite button that brings up templates but only, for me anyway, the four templates I mentioned. REVUpminster (talk) 07:34, 6 December 2025 (UTC)
- Can you talk me through the steps to get to this cite button? I'm asking because I've never heard of it, and the intent is to find out what it is so we can leave a note on the maintainer's page to get additional templates added Danners430 tweaks made 09:22, 6 December 2025 (UTC)
- The cite button is the last button on the ribbon that has Bold, Italics, link, image, etc
- I have found the template Template:Cite magazine which I have put on my user page for future use. My heydey on wikipedia was 10 years ago and I do very little editing nowadays except sometime on my watched pages.REVUpminster (talk) 10:30, 6 December 2025 (UTC)
- I'll have to have a look and see where that gets its templates from Danners430 tweaks made 11:02, 6 December 2025 (UTC)
