In any case, I reverted last month because I assumed you were contending that there was no source for the statement—not that there was a source attached, but it was not sufficient verification. I've checked the article again, and the whole "German affinity for law and order" is (as you say) rather speculative. I therefore agree with your revert.
Moreover, being able to look at the article some time after I rewrote that paragraph, I also suspect that the Economist's contention is inaccurate, and that although the German draftsmen and judiciary have a greater-than-average affinity for the Roman/Civil Law system and for exhaustive statute, the German people are probably as apathetic as the populations of most other nations :-).
