Information icon Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions, such as the edit(s) you made to Template:User Neuschwanstein Castle, did not appear to be constructive and have been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use your sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. Thank you.Jonesey95 (talk) 17:36, 8 March 2025 (UTC)

@Jonesey95 Yes, I had also asked Hey man im josh to delete the pages. I had made those mistakes while trying to do UBX migration. I'm sorry for that Xiphoid Vigour ||||| 17:43, 8 March 2025 (UTC)
A userbox template that follows the naming rules, like {{User Neuschwanstein Castle}}, does not need to be migrated. What were you trying to do? – Jonesey95 (talk) 21:19, 8 March 2025 (UTC)
But, the migrations that I've seen transfer the non-babel boxes which are in template namespace to the userspace of either User:UBX or the personal namespace like at {{User Against userbox migration}} Xiphoid Vigour ||||| 06:02, 9 March 2025 (UTC)
@Jonesey95 I'm sorry if have mistaken the migration. I'll try to be careful. Xiphoid Vigour ||||| 06:04, 9 March 2025 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Userbox migration is an ancient page that should be disregarded. Wikipedia:Userboxes has the current guideline. – Jonesey95 (talk) 14:56, 9 March 2025 (UTC)
Thanks for making me aware. Xiphoid Vigour ||||| 16:11, 9 March 2025 (UTC)

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, articles should not be moved, as you did to Mātṛviṣṇu, without good reason. They should have a name that is both accurate and intuitive. Wikipedia has some guidelines in place to help with this. Generally, a page should only be moved to a new title if the current name doesn't follow these guidelines. Also, if a page move is being discussed, consensus needs to be reached before anybody moves the page. If you would like to experiment with page titles and moving, please use the test Wikipedia. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you.Garuda Talk! 12:39, 12 March 2025 (UTC)

Hi, Garudam! Well I had moved it as the commonly used spellings don't use IAST. For example article name is Punjab not puñjāba. Only some articles which are of very low importance and historians use it more than others use IAST as name. Well, I don't think so that it's very unfamiliar to the common people. Feel free to revert if you think it should be the other way. Just remember to leave a redirect. :-) Regards, Xiphoid Vigour ||||| 15:04, 12 March 2025 (UTC)
@Xiphoid Vigour, exception lies; see WP:FELU. Since the sources readily use IAST spellings, so WP:AT would defacto follows them. – Garuda Talk! 15:08, 12 March 2025 (UTC)
@Xiphoid Vigour and please don't quickclose the GA nominations with vague rationales, please familiarise yourself with GA reviewing. Best, – Garuda Talk! 15:11, 12 March 2025 (UTC)
@Garudam The article is actually short and needs some more improving. I am familiar with the criteria. I can also help improve the article. Also see the tags. Xiphoid Vigour ||||| 15:15, 12 March 2025 (UTC)
Oh I see it can be short too Xiphoid Vigour ||||| 15:16, 12 March 2025 (UTC)
But that's not a valid argument to fail the review, many short articles can pass GAN if it's well written and mainly spun around its own core topic without going here and there, see for example: Adur-Anahid. I'll fix the tag issues when I get to be free, in the meantime please feel free to improve it. – Garuda Talk! 15:59, 12 March 2025 (UTC)

Pending changes reviewer granted

Hello. Your account has been granted the "pending changes reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on pages protected by pending changes. The list of articles awaiting review is located at Special:PendingChanges, while the list of articles that have pending changes protection turned on is located at Special:StablePages.

Being granted reviewer rights neither grants you status nor changes how you can edit articles. If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time.

Hi, Xiphoid Vigour. Your signature has two template calls in it, and exceeds 256 characters in length, all of which violate WP:SIG. Please bring it into compliance at your soonest convenience. Thanks. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (they|xe|🤷) 19:35, 17 March 2025 (UTC)

@Tamzin Thanks for notifying me. I didn't know that my signature can't have templates and it was too long. I'm going to fix it.Xiphoid Vigour (talk · contribs) 05:57:27, 18 March 2025 (UTC)

Reviewer rights

I'd need more information before I would do such a thing — could you show me the specific edit that you're talking about? Also, if your account's been compromised but you haven't lost access to it completely, then all you really have to do is change your password to lock out the vandal, so we wouldn't normally remove user rights on a temporary basis just because of such a thing — we would usually only do that if your access to the account had been completely lost, so that the vandal had permanent control of it now. So just update your password and it should all be fine. Bearcat (talk) 16:54, 21 March 2025 (UTC)

Apologies @Bearcat, I've already removed the rights and following up with an investigation into the account. Seddon talk 17:01, 21 March 2025 (UTC)

How can i begin my article --Kimnberlya (talk) 11:56, 25 May 2025 (UTC)

Hi, Kimnberlya! Welcome to Wikipedia! First, you shouldn't be writing about yourself, your friends, family, employer etc. as it can cause a conflict of interest. Start your page in Draft namespace. The World Destubathon

Hello. You're invited to participate in The World Destubathon. We're aiming to destub a lot of articles and also improve longer stale articles. It started today on Monday June 16 and will run until Sunday July 13. There is over $3300 going into it, with $500 the top prize. If you are interested in winning something to save you money in buying books for future content, or just see it as a good editathon opportunity to see a lot of articles improved for subjects which interest you, sign up on the page in the participants section if interested. Even if you can only manage a few articles they would be very much appreciated and help make the content produced as diverse and broad as possible!♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:39, 16 June 2025 (UTC)

Rollback granted

Hi Ophyrius. After reviewing your request, I have enabled rollback on your account. Please keep the following things in mind while using rollback:

  • Being granted rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle or Ultraviolet. It just adds a [rollback] button next to a page's latest live revision. It does not grant you any additional "status" on Wikipedia, nor does it change how Wikipedia policies apply to you.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear and unambiguous cases of vandalism only. Never use rollback to revert good faith edits. For more information about when rollback is appropriate, see Wikipedia:Rollback § When to use rollback.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war, and it should never be used in a content-related dispute to restore the page to your preferred revision. If rollback is abused or used for this purpose or any other inappropriate purpose, the rights will be revoked.
  • Use common sense. If you're not sure about something, ask!

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into trouble or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Malinaccier (talk) 19:33, 16 June 2025 (UTC)

My edit to Asena (disambiguation)

I can't see how this edit added any incorrect information. The only information added was changing the description of Asena (name) from female given name to a Turkish feminine given name, which is literally mentioned in the first sentence of that article. 2A00:807:C9:F9F1:5024:CE1E:B8F7:8534 (talk) 07:01, 17 June 2025 (UTC)

My bad. I had reverted it as the I believe information in first section, that you removed was necessary. I forgot to re-add the info of second. Thanks for notifying me. :-) Ɔþʱʏɾɪʊs 07:18, 17 June 2025 (UTC)
I don't think my changes to the first section removed any necessary information. I removed the is the name of from Asena, is the name of a she-wolf associated with a Göktürk ethnogenic myth. as redundant because it didn't actually add any information that wasn't already obvious (the name of the article is the name of the wolf). I removed the wikilink to Göktürk and the period at the end of the sentence because of MOS:DABONE and MOS:DABPERIOD. 2A00:807:C9:F9F1:5024:CE1E:B8F7:8534 (talk) 07:56, 17 June 2025 (UTC)
Oh, I never noticed MOS:DABONE, when I was a newcomer. But, I'm a bit curious that how you know so many policies. Ɔþʱʏɾɪʊs 08:30, 17 June 2025 (UTC)
I've been occasionally editing for a while, so I knew there was a policy about how to do disambiguation pages and looked it up while editing the article, but I didn't know the specific ones until then. Thanks for restoring my revision! :) 2A00:807:C9:F9F1:5024:CE1E:B8F7:8534 (talk) 15:00, 17 June 2025 (UTC)

Administrator Elections | Call for Candidates

Administrator Elections | Call for Candidates

The administrator elections process has officially started! Interested editors are encouraged to self-nominate or arrange to be nominated by reviewing the instructions at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/July 2025/Candidates.

Here is the schedule:

  • July 9–15 - Call for candidates
  • July 18–22 - Discussion phase
  • July 23–29 - SecurePoll voting phase

Please note the following:

  • The requirements to run are identical to RFA—a prospective candidate must be extended confirmed.
  • Prospective candidates are advised to become familiar with the community's expectations of administrators, which are much higher than the minimum requirement of having extended confirmed status. This includes reviewing successful and unsuccessful RFAs, reading the essay Wikipedia:Advice for RfA candidates, and possibly requesting an optional poll on their chances of passing.
  • The process will have a seven day call for candidates phase, a two day pause, a five day discussion phase, and a seven day private vote using SecurePoll. Discussion and questions are only allowed on the candidate pages during the discussion phase.
  • The outcome of this process is identical to making a request for adminship. There is no official difference between an administrator appointed through RFA versus administrator elections.
  • Administrator elections are also a valid means of regaining adminship for de-sysopped editors.

Ask any questions about the process at the talk page. A separate user talk message will be sent to official candidates with additional information about the process.

If you are interested in the process, please make sure to watchlist the appropriate pages. A watchlist notice will be added when the discussion phase opens, and again when the voting phase opens.

Question from JSeto1989 (15:45, 11 July 2025)

I'm not sure I understand the difference between major and minor edits. I think of minor as providing examples, fixing typos and adding a line. Major as writing whole new paragraphs and sections, or moving large blocks of text or adding media. I haven't spotted the guidance on this....can you suggest? --JSeto1989 (talk) 15:45, 11 July 2025 (UTC)

Hi, JSeto1989! Welcome to Wikipedia! We have a guidance on this. I believe that specifically this section can help you out for this. Cheers! OPHYRIUS 16:52, 11 July 2025 (UTC)

Question from Litoroa2 on Lotto New Zealand (00:36, 18 July 2025)

Administrator Elections | Discussion phase

Administrator Elections | Discussion phase

The discussion phase of the July 2025 administrator elections is officially open. As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:

  • July 18–22 - Discussion phase (we are here)
  • July 23–29 - SecurePoll voting phase
  • July 30–c. Aug 3 - Scrutineering phase

We are currently in the discussion phase. The candidate subpages are open to questions and comments from everyone, in the same style as a request for adminship. You may discuss the candidates at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/July 2025/Discussion phase.

On July 23, we will start the voting phase. The candidate subpages will close again to public questions and discussion, and everyone will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's totals during the election. You must be extended confirmed to vote.

Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last approximately four days, or perhaps a little longer. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page (you may want to watchlist this page) and transcluded to the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose), and must also have received a minimum of 20 support votes. Because this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").

Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

Administrator Elections | Voting phase

Administrator Elections | Voting phase

The voting phase of the July 2025 administrator elections has started and continues until July 29 at 23:59 UTC. You can participate in the voting phase at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/July 2025/Voting phase.

As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:

  • July 23–29 – Voting phase
  • July 30–c. Aug 3 – Scrutineering phase

In the voting phase, the candidate subpages will close to public questions and discussion, and everyone who qualifies to vote will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's vote total during the election. The suffrage requirements are similar to those at RFA.

Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last for approximately four days, perhaps longer. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page (this is a good page to watchlist), and transcluded to the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose), and a minimum of 20 support votes. Because this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").

Temporary account IP viewer granted

The temporary account IP viewer logo, composed of the Wikipedia globe with a user and an IP address

Hello, Ophyrius. Per your request, your account has been granted "checkuser-temporary-account". You are now able to reveal the IP addresses of individuals using temporary accounts that are not visible to the general public. This is very sensitive information that is only to be used to aid in anti-abuse workflows. Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer for more information on this user right. It is important to remember:

  • You must not share IP address data with someone who does not have the same access permissions unless disclosure is permissible as per guidelines listed at Foundation:Policy:Wikimedia Access to Temporary Account IP Addresses Policy.
  • Access should not be used for political control, to apply pressure on editors, or as a threat against another editor in a content dispute. There must be a valid reason to investigate a temporary user. Note that using multiple temporary accounts is not forbidden, so long as they are not used in violation of policies (for example, block or ban evasion).

It is also important to note that the following actions are logged for others to see:

  • When a user accepts the preference that enables or disables IP reveal for their account.
  • Revealing an IP address of a temporary account.
  • Listing the temporary accounts that are associated with an IP address or CIDR range.

Remember, even if a user is violating policy, avoid revealing personal information if possible. Use temporary account usernames rather than disclosing IP addresses directly, or give information such as same network/not same network or similar. If you do not want the user right anymore then please ask me or another administrator and it will be removed for you. Happy editing! Sohom (talk) 04:21, 3 August 2025 (UTC)

You're welcome. Actually I think the topicon should be moved to Temporary account IP viewer topicon (singular) to match the other User top icon usergroup templates. Is that OK with you? ClaudineChionh (she/her · talk · email · global) 09:29, 3 August 2025 (UTC)
Hi, @ClaudineChionh! I intentionally kept it plural as the user right's name(see here) is actually plural. Ophyrius (he/him

It looks like temporary-account-viewer to me. The user right/permission is singular, the user group is plural. And the userbox is singular. But maybe I'm just being nitpicky. ClaudineChionh (she/her · talk · email · global) 09:46, 3 August 2025 (UTC)

Question from Peterleoncollins (23:46, 3 August 2025)

Apologies If I have this wrong. I am an experienced technical writing team leader and copyeditor (of 88 years of age) attempting to learn Wiki editing. The editing part is okay but learning my way around the links is slow. Okay, that's the background. I've picked up "Diagnostic Enterprise Method" and read it. It has clearly (from the Talk page) been built as a class exercise. I have experience in industrial quality control and related methods and have presented to the NZ Operations Research Society thereupon. My assessment: this article should be removed. The term: Diagnostic Enterprise Method is not in common use; indeed, it may never have been in use. The article is largely (perhaps completely) lifted from the Frederick Winslow Taylor page. Perhaps I should lay that opinion of mine into the 'issues' section of the article - but I don't know how to do that, either. Help!!! Peter. Peterleoncollins (talk) 20:25, 3 August 2025 (UTC) --Peterleoncollins (talk) 23:46, 3 August 2025 (UTC)

Hey, Peterleoncollins! Let me see the article. You can take a look at WP:AFD for what do with articles that don't meet policies. Ophyrius (he/him
T • C • G
) 13:01, 4 August 2025 (UTC)
The page I selected for this 'beginner-edit' is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diagnostic_Enterprise_Method which in my view is merely a very brief actual cut & paste copy of key points in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederick_Winslow_Taylor. So, instead of editing it, I think I should PROD it, because I find it to be mere plagiarism from another Wiki page, under a different name, effectively. (You see, I am slowly learning). Question(s):(a) Do you agree with my assessment? (b) And if so, is PROD the most appropriate step? Thank you for your patient guidance. Peter Peterleoncollins (talk) 20:16, 4 August 2025 (UTC)
Hey, Peterleoncollins. I don't think PROD would be right. The right place for this would be AFD as the deletion would be a bit controversial. Ophyrius (he/him

Administrators' newsletter – August 2025

News and updates for administrators from the past month (July 2025).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a request for comment, a new speedy deletion criterion, G15, has been enacted. It applies to pages generated by a large language model (LLM) without human review.
  • Following a request for comment, there is a new policy outlining the granting of permissions to view the IP addresses of temporary accounts. Temporary account deployment on the English Wikipedia is currently scheduled for September 2025, and editors can request access to the permission ahead of time. Admins are encouraged to keep an eye on the request page; there will likely be a flood of editors requesting the permission when they realize they can no longer see IP addresses.

RfC close

RfC is supposed to run for at least 30 days. The RfC you closed here was only 15 days old. You must undo your RfC close. Orientls (talk) 16:57, 1 August 2025 (UTC)

Hi, Orientls! I had closed it as the consensus had been reached. Per policy an RFC can be closed early if a consensus has been reached. Also, the closure was actually requested at Wikipedia:Closure_requests and many users didn't object. But, if you think it hadn't reached consensus, feel free to revert it. Thanks! Ophyrius (he/him
T • C • G
) 17:22, 1 August 2025 (UTC)
See WP:RFC. It specifically says that RfC sticks for at least 30 days. Unless you are saying that all of the users agreed over a single choice, then only you can say that the consensus was already reached but that was not the case. Yes a lot of problematic requests are placed on WP:ANRFC and they don't become legitimate only because they have been placed there. I don't understand why are you saying that nobody disputed it because WP:ANRFC is not the right place for disputing the closures. I am again asking you to revert your RfC close yourself, because your own revert will certainly prevent the unnecessary dispute over closure and save a lot of time. Thanks Orientls (talk) 17:34, 1 August 2025 (UTC)
The policy explicitly says "There is no required minimum or maximum duration". There have been zero new comments in the discussion for two weeks (July 21), and while there is no unanimous consensus, that's also not a requirement and it's very much in WP:SNOW territory at this point. Asamboi (talk) 05:15, 3 August 2025 (UTC)

Question from M1Secret (14:18, 15 August 2025)

Greetings, Trying to create a page to help highlight the talent of a Cuban local struggling artist. He lost family and is going through a dark period- So I am trying to help him focus on his art and showcasing his talent. He has extensive museum presentations and awards and many newspaper articles and press. But I do not want it to be commercial- He will be travelling to Europe for a visit, and I would appreaciate any guidance or tips to help creat a page for him. --M1Secret (talk) 14:18, 15 August 2025 (UTC)
