Hello NDPSORT! Your additions to Southport Lifeboat Station have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, it's important to understand and adhere to guidelines about using information from sources to prevent copyright and plagiarism issues. Here are the key points:
- Limited quotation: You may only copy or translate a small portion of a source. Any direct quotations must be enclosed in double quotation marks (") and properly cited using an inline citation. More information is available on the non-free content page. To learn how to cite a source, see Help:Referencing for beginners.
- Paraphrasing: Beyond limited quotations, you are required to put all information in your own words. Following the source's wording too closely can lead to copyright issues and is not permitted; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when paraphrasing, you must still cite your sources as appropriate.
- Image use guidelines: In most scenarios, only freely licensed or public domain images may be used and these should be uploaded to our sister project, Wikimedia Commons. In some scenarios, non-freely copyrighted content can be used if they meet all ten of our non-free content criteria; Wikipedia:Plain and simple non-free content guide may help with determining a file's eligibility.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices. Persistent failure to comply may result in being blocked from editing. If you have any questions or need further clarification, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. REAL_MOUSE_IRL talk 22:50, 14 March 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Real_Mouse_IRL
- The book that the passages I took extracts from is a book from 1949, which I thought I'd referenced and cited correctly. Apologies if I'd done this incorrectly.
- Some information I had brought across from a website that I am the administrator for. Copyright is not an issue as I had written the original material myself. I had added a link to the reference.
- I believe the information adds to the article, so can the removed information be reinstated? Or if I were to reword it, would that be acceptable?
- I also added a few photos that again the copyright wouldn't be an issue for, these were taken down. Can you advise how best to proceed in adding these photos?
- I don't want to do anything wrong and am genuinely trying to improve the article.
- Thank you. NDPSORT (talk) 20:24, 16 March 2025 (UTC)
Southport Lifeboat Station and SORT
editHi Nick
I've seen you've made some effort to sort out some of the errors, and I'm a bit more chilled. So, hope all is well. I've made some amendments to the Southport page. Split the stations to make it more clear that some were stationed at the Pier. Trust all acceptable.
FYI: There's a citation template at the head of the edit page. All date ranges have endash – (Alt0150). All lifeboat numbers have hyphens -
You could do with some citations for the awards.

- No problems. It's up to you how you display it, I will try and follow similar format to what you use moving forward. One note to consider: - the Eliza Fernley (and previous boats) would have been in a different building (Promenade boathouse) to the Mary Anna onward (Esplanade boathouse). The Esplanade building is what we used until recently, and the date stone inside is built in December 1886 (post Mexico). I assume that your records say 1887 as you have edited the date back to then. I can get you a picture of the stone if you like?
- Will try and do more as and when I can on both pages. Thanks for tidying up the citation format errors I'd put in, it is appreciated.

- Hi Nick
- The earlier boathouse was (is) mentioned. When you started off saying I'd got it wrong, it wasn't. I can't seem to manage to work out exactly where it used to be, as the promenade was the seafront, and now is nowhere near of course. But I think somewhere south of the Royal Clifton Hotel, near the roundabout at the end of the promenade.
- I added the bit I just found about 1886 discussions with the Council about relocating the boathouse in 1886. And listed as completed in 1887, because its on the cusp of both years.
- Jeff Morris' history has Mary Anna in the original promenade boathouse for a short period.
- You might like to investigate if the old service boards are still at The Atkinson??
- Any pics can be uploaded to Wikimedia commons with a copyright waiver, and then can be uploaded to wiki pages.

Southport Updates
editHi Nick
Your recent addition spurred me on to do some long overdue updates, add lifeboat details, changing the odd "In" start to a paragraph, so they're not a list of In... And getting rid of page breaks, which apparently cause havoc with screen readers. All minor stuff, haven't changed anything dramatic.
Oh, and I'm on a mission to create some pages for Independents. Done an additional 10 recently.

D-class info
editHi Nick
Do you know which D-class (number) is now Christopher Taylor?
Martin Ojsyork (talk) 17:49, 24 January 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Martin,
- It was built specifically for us, so it didn't get a RNLI number. It was built after 799 so if it had gone into the RNLI it would have been number 800 I guess.
- Best wishes NDPSORT (talk) 10:22, 26 January 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Nick
- I've asked Lewis at the ILC for any info.
- I was wondering what brought about you changing the link on the independent page back to Southport Offshore Rescue Trust from Southport Lifeboat Station?
- Martin Ojsyork (talk) 12:40, 26 January 2026 (UTC)
- I changed it because the 1st line of the article is -'a list of lifeboat services', so the page relates to the service rather than the history of the station. The links in the table generally go to the services, i.e Caister goes to CVLS, etc. NDPSORT (talk) 15:02, 26 January 2026 (UTC)
- Further to last message, ILC confirm private build, the same time as D-803 and D-804.
