Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.
Hi @Butterscotch Beluga, please can you explain why you reverted my comment on Relations between Nazi Germany and the Arab world due to a violation of the Arab-Israel content restrictions? Obviously I understand that a lot of the Husseini stuff is a point of discourse, but what I wrote is not related to anything with that. It's discussing Hitler and Mussolini and the Arabs, which is obviously a small-c contentious matter, but I don't see where my comment specifically relates to the Arab-Israeli conflict. I note that the talk page notice states that only parts of the article relate to the Contentious Topic area. Please could you elaborate? Thanks! Meluiel (talk) 01:20, 22 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi Meluiel. Thank you for your work on Silphium Press. Another editor, MPGuy2824, has reviewed it as part of new pages patrol and left the following comment:
not mentioned in target page
To reply, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|MPGuy2824}}. (Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)
In other news, we have a new face on the coordinator team this year: last year's sixth-place finisher, Arconning(talk·contribs)! The coordinators would like to extend a sincere thanks to Ixtal(talk·contribs), who is leaving the team, without whom the contest would not exist. After feedback from contestants last year, the scoring rules are undergoing some modifications; the new rules and a summary of the changes made will be posted to the contest talk page shortly.

This is just a note to say thank you for the listicle(s) improvement (here et al) and a twofer - thanks for all the auxiliary template edits, and a question: did you find this clean-up easy? After reworking the listicles, I wanted them to be accessible for everyone to update, there just aren't many who have. Kingsif (talk) 21:32, 20 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Hey, thanks for the messsage:) I'll be totally honest, it was pretty disorienting figuring out exactly what pages I needed to change, following the breadcrumbs in comments etc to try and figure out which other pages I also needed to edit — it was difficult to tell if I had missed any. To a certain extent that's my fault, not really noticing the documentation section of the Overview template. Maybe the fact that that template has essential instructions to be followed could be made clearer in the various hidden notes on the list pages, I don't know. I wouldn't call my clean-up "easy", but then again it's always going to be hard maintaining these sorts of inter-reliant templates; how "easy" can it realistically ever be? Hi, Meluiel! At 11:35, 16 June 2024 you made an edit where you said you removed material that violated copyright. Thank you for caring about intellectual property rights. Would you happen to know the source of the copyrighted material? If you let me know, I'll flag the talk page so no one makes that mistake again. Stay fabulous! Oona Wikiwalker (talk) 20:49, 24 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Meluiel, I'm very happy to correct this, but I don't have access to Mr. Ahmida's book. I checked the Wikipedia library and they don't have it either. Google books doesn't offer a preview. Would you happen to have the book? Oona Wikiwalker (talk) 18:53, 29 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately the Wikipedia Library doesn't have access to Routledge books, but I do have a copy. If you want you can email me and I'll send you the necessary parts. Meluiel (talk) 02:04, 30 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Hello, Meluiel. Please check your email; you've got mail! It may take a few minutes from the time the email is sent for it to show up in your inbox. You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{You've got mail}} or {{ygm}} template.
Thanks, I have replied. As I've already checked through several of Ahmida's works for infringement in the article, I chose not to attach anything from the book, as I'm not sure what specifically would be needed for further edits. Meluiel (talk) 02:42, 31 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Hi, @Meluiel. Got you reply, and thanks for the promptness! All I need is the parts that prompted you to claim a copyright violation. You did say in your email, "I've already checked through and cleaned the article of copyright infringement, checking especially closely for passages taken from several of Ahmida's works (including Genocide in Libya), so you don't need to do anything yourself," but this hasn't been done.
I never meant to pressure you; please don't feel stressed. If it's not possible for you to send me the parts of the book you think have been plagiarized, then please just tell me which pages are needed to verify this and I'll get them from a researcher. If you were mistaken, please don't feel bad. At least you care about copyrights! And we all make mistakes. All. The. Time. Join the party and stay fabulous! Oona Wikiwalker (talk) 03:41, 31 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Okay, thanks for explaining. I've sent you another email. For the copyright violating parts, it's easiest if I just link you the copyright problems page report that I made after discovering the copyvio on the article: Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2024 June 14. It has everything I found, with corresponding page numbers. Meluiel (talk) 04:26, 31 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Meluiel, kudos to you for doing the heavy lifting on this! I've verified everything you said. I placed a warning in the talk page banner against plagiarizing from Mr. Ahmida's book, as well as a link to it as a chapter in an encyclopedia on world genocide. I've also requested that the revision history containing the plagiarized material be deleted. That should remove from Wikipedia servers all of his material that was plagiarized into this article. I've read only the parts of the book you sent me that relate to this issue. I've placed the book in the trash and emptied the trash. I do want to read it, but I'll get it from a source that pays Mr. Ahmida proper royalties. Thank you, again, for bringing this issue up so it can be fixed! And, really: stay fabulous! On 2 September 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Arch of the Philaeni, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Arch of the Philaeni(pictured) drew parallels between the dictator Benito Mussolini and the Roman emperor Augustus? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Arch of the Philaeni. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Arch of the Philaeni), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Two weeks ago, the 2025 Developing Countries WikiContest came to a close! After three months of stiff competition at the top of the leaderboard, we have our winners. vigilantcosmicpenguin (submissions), continuing his work on covering abortion in Africa, comes in third with 692 points. simongraham (submissions) comes in second with 763 points, largely from a slew of good articles about jumping spiders. And returning to the podium for the second year in a row, BeanieFan11 (submissions) takes the Gold Belt Buckle with a mind-boggling 946 points from his series of articles on sportpersons. Congratulations to our winners!
Amazingly, the award for the most countries covered goes to both BeanieFan11 (submissions) and simongraham (submissions), who each submitted articles under 30 flags! BeanieFan11 (submissions) also wins for writing the most quality articles (16 good articles). For submitting 16 articles related to El Salvador, PizzaKing13 (submissions) wins the award for most submissions under one country. The award for most submissions related to women goes to both Spookyaki (submissions) (7 biographies about women) and vigilantcosmicpenguin (submissions) (21 related articles). And for the second year, simongraham (submissions) wins for the most reviews, having submitted 21!
Among the participants' contributions were 2 FAs, 5 FLs, 124 GAs, and an uncounted number of DYKs, ITNs, and reviews of every kind! Regardless of your level of participation, every contestant can be proud to have contributed towards a major step in countering the systemic bias on Wikipedia. Every year, millions of readers and editors around the globe use Wikipedia to educate themselves and communicate with others about parts of the world that often receive less attention than they deserve. Thank you for participating with us in the contest and contributing to this effort. The DCWC will return next year, and we look forward to seeing you contribute again! However, before that...
We need your feedback! Join the conversation on the talk page to discuss your reflections on the contest (even if you didn't participate!) and help us make it better.

Hello, I'm cooking up a page on Italian colonial architecture in my sandbox, and eventually want to try to publish it. But I have no clue what to do with the redirect that's currently in place! Should I just blank the page to create a red link? I'm only asking you because you put the redirect in place, and might know the mechanics better. Also, if you're working on a page for It. colonial architecture yourself, I'd love to collaborate with you! Theodore Christopher (talk) 15:55, 6 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi! Honestly I don't really know, the current Colonial architecture page is a mess. I guess just replace it with a summary and use a Template:Main hatnote once your sandbox page is published. I probably can't put much work in to collaborate, as I'm not editing much nowadays, but would be more than happy to read it through and give advice. Meluiel (talk) 21:50, 6 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
The discussion will take place at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Libyan genocide (1929–1934) until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article.

The Developing Countries WikiContest Gold Belt Buckle
Hey Meluiel, it's almost that time again! The Developing Countries WikiContest will be returning for its third year, and the coordinator team is looking for experienced content contributors willing to volunteer. The coordinators are responsible for keeping the contest running and its pages—including participants' submissions, the points leaderboard, and the list of eligible articles—updated.
