New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024

edit

Hello LM2000,

New Page Review queue January to March 2024

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

Tragos Hall of Fame

edit

Hello. I have seen you edited the article. I have a question. What do you think about including the amateur background? I mean, the article is about pro wrestlers with amateur background, maybe it's improtant to include it. Also, waht do yo uthink about nicknames? Usually we don't include Rowdy Roddy Piper or Larry The Axe Hennig, but the Hall of Fame articles include the nicknames. --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 13:38, 27 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi HHH, it's good to hear from you again. Tragos/Thesz is a weird HOF that sort of blends amateur and professional wrestling. I helped create the article when it was still a draft years ago, and I tried to list amateur accomplishments when possible like Chris Taylor and Kurt Angle's Olympic backgrounds. I do think it's important to note both their professional wrestling and amateur backgrounds since they're both relevant. Regarding nicknames, I don't have an opinion really. I think I copied some of the information from other articles like WWE Hall of Fame (2007), which do list nicknames. If nicknames are against the styles guide now then they should be removed from all related articles.
The main issue I have with the article is how to handle people that get honored multiple times. Right now, their backgrounds are listed on whatever section comes first (see Dan Severn, Larry Hennig, Jim Ross, etc.). That's not a big problem but I'm not sure if there's a better way to present the information.LM2000 (talk) 02:58, 28 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
About nicknmaes, I don't remember if there is some style guide about it, but I think the consensus it's to avoid them unless it's part of the name, like John Bradshaw Layfield or Andrade Cien Almas. About notes, I think we should include their work but.... I mean... JBL or Jim Ross won the Thesz award "This award recognizes those in the professional wrestling industry who have used their skills in the realm of public service", but the notes mentions "Longtime lead announcer for WWF/E, WCW and other regional promotions;" and "One-time WWE Champion, three-time WWF Tag Team Champion[21]", nothing about their work for public services. --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 17:13, 28 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Totally agree on nicknames. Also agree on writing about why someone receives a particular award, but that's not always so clear. Edge got the Thesz award (for public service?) but his page on their website only discusses his wrestling accomplishments. I think Jim Ross got it for his work as WWF head of talent relations in the 90s, which is mentioned, but I'm not sure. So, yeah, we should mention it when it's obvious (like Jesse Ventura's tenure as Governor of Minnesota), but sometimes it's confusing.LM2000 (talk) 10:25, 29 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
I had a problem with nicknames recently. An user wanted to include The Glamour Mariah May. I removed. The user said we have included Hangman Adam Page and Timeless Toni Storm. However, we didn't include Scapegoat Jack Perry, Rainmaker Kazuchika Okada, The Bastard Pac or Le Champion Chris Jericho. So... the criteria for iclusion it's very blurr. The Hal of Fame, yeah. Angle is a well known amateur wrestler, but Flair and Piper only mentions they were amateur wrestlers. Rhodes and Harley Race's articles don't mention any amateur background. Maybe, their names were picked from a hat... --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 12:57, 29 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hogan in TNA

edit

Hello. Since you edited the TNA section, I have two questions. 1, Eric Bischoff said during an interview that Hogan was signed but he asked to hire Eric since he was the one he trusted. I dont see it. Should we add it? 2, I dont see any mention of Hogan and Bischoff holding backstage power in TNA. I think we should include it, since has been a lot of discussion about Hogan/Bischoff backstage influence. Also, maybe a mention ofHogan/Bischoff "destroying" TNA. HHH Pedrigree (talk) 11:38, 10 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi HHH, it's been awhile! I'm not quite as active as I used to be. Anyway, I think that 1 should be mentioned on Bischoff's article (if it isn't already), but Hulk's article is long enough. 2, I added "in an executive role," but this should be explained in better detail; it is remarkable that this entire section just detailed storylines. Regarding their "destruction" of TNA, this should be mentioned somewhere - if not in the TNA section, this is a legacy bit. I think every book written about TNA history will not remember their tenure going particularly well.LM2000 (talk) 11:50, 10 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Hello. yeah, the problem with Hogan is the career has so much backstage problems, creative control that we cant separate storylines from fiction. anyways, many sources mention the Hogan/Bischoff time as a decline for TNA. I will seek for sources, im on a trip.About the position, we can write something like "its no clear the position they had in TNA. while most sources point they had creative power, Hogan and Eric denied it, claming they were talent. Other sources point while they didnt had power, they had influence over Dixie Carter.--HHH Pedrigree (talk) 11:56, 10 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

New Page Patrol Newsletter - May 2026

edit

Hello LM2000,

New Page Review queue November 2025 - May 2026

Backlog update

At the time of this message, there are 15,282 articles and 32,951 redirects awaiting review.

After the January–February drive the article backlog was reduced to 15,179 articles and the redirect backlog to 19,053 respectively. Great job! However, both queues are growing rapidly and any additional reviews are highly appreciated.

2024 and 2025 NPP Awards

JTtheOG was selected as the NPP reviewer of the year for both 2024 and 2025, for reviewing the most articles amongst all reviewers.

Hey man im josh and MPGuy2824 won the Redirect Ninja Master Award for 2024 and 2025 respectively, for reviewing the most redirects.

Overall in 2024, one Platinum, two Gold, eight Silver, 12 Bronze and 45 Iron Barnstars were awarded. Additionally, 66 reviewers got the NPP barnstar for doing more than 100 reviews through the year. In 2025, one Platinum, ten Silver, 13 Bronze and 38 Iron Barnstars were awarded. Additionally, 38 reviewers got the NPP barnstar for doing more than 100 reviews through the year.

BoyTheKingCanDance, Rosiestep, SunDawn, and Vanderwaalforces were inducted into the NPP Hall of Fame for having two separate years of 2,000+ article reviews.

January–February backlog drive

The experimental two-month long backlog drive concluded with 183 reviewers patrolling over 27,761 articles and 35,309 redirects, earning over 36,836 points. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 6,484.6 points in this drive.

May backlog drive

An article-only backlog drive is currently underway. We are hoping to make a big dent in the backlog. You can read more about it or join at Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Backlog drives/May 2026.

PageTriage

An attempt was made to get the New Pages Feed to sort by date marked as reviewed instead of date created. However we had to revert it due to bugs. We may try again in the future. You can subscribe to the Phabricator ticket if you're interested in following along.

Hi HHH, that would be a good idea to include but I don't see that anything got released like that. They did a Ruthless Aggression Era special a few years ago, it would seem like this is the next era they can cash in for nostalgia. We'll add that when it happens.LM2000 (talk) 04:12, 5 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
