Non-free image using

I would like to apologise for using Emblem of West Bengal (2018-present).svg without knowing it's actually a non-free logo. I thought it was usable because it was used in the Government of West Bengal article. It won't happen again. Vijay6767 (talk) 22:46, 6 September 2025 (UTC)

Speedy deletion rejections

Hi JJMC89, can you please look at my talk page and also wiki project football about why I nominated all these articles for speedy deletion? I believe there is a strong consensus for these blank page re directs to all be deleted. Thanks. Rupert1904 (talk) 18:06, 6 September 2025 (UTC)

That does not mean that they qualify for speedy deletion. The place to form consensus for deletion of redirects is WP:RFD, not your or a WikiProject's talk page. —JJMC89 18:42, 6 September 2025 (UTC)
They do qualify for speedy deletion. There is a general consensus that the user who created all these blank club season articles and re-directed them to the club's main article page did so to get the credit for creating the page. They have not contributed any substantive edits to the 40 plus article since creating the re-directs and do not respond to any sort of communication. This behavior and editing should have been dealt with long before rather than ever even getting to this stage. Rupert1904 (talk) 23:31, 6 September 2025 (UTC)
That still does not constitute a reason for speedy deletion. We have fixed rules for when pages can be speedy deleted, which you can't simply bend to your whim like that. * Pppery * it has begun... 23:34, 6 September 2025 (UTC)

Please stop removing a file

You've removed a file File:MØ - Brad Pitt, Goosebumps.png in Brad Pitt (song) and Goosebumps (MØ song) which doesn't violate the rule. Please refrain from removing non-problematic file in these articles. Per guideline, non-free file has to be used at least once, which doesn't mean it cannot be used over a time. Camilasdandelions (talk!) 22:54, 10 September 2025 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) The bot is operating correctly. WP:NFCC#10c requires that you fill out the rationale template separately for each use rather than trying to cram them both into one use with malformed wikitext. * Pppery * it has begun... 22:56, 10 September 2025 (UTC)
@Pppery: So do I have to upload same file in different names? Camilasdandelions (talk!) 23:00, 10 September 2025 (UTC)
No, you have to use {{Non-free use rationale}} twice on the file page. * Pppery * it has begun... 23:01, 10 September 2025 (UTC)
Thank you for your explanation, I've done what you said. I hope I'm doing right. Camilasdandelions (talk!) 23:04, 10 September 2025 (UTC)
That should be enough to satisfy the bot. * Pppery * it has begun... 23:29, 10 September 2025 (UTC)

An Evening with Silk Sonic at Park MGM

Your both is trying to remove the poster from this article over and over again, can you find a way to stop it? The image is complaint with Wikipedia policy. There is a valid non-free use rationale and it doesn't violate WP:NFCC. Let me know something, thanks! MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 17:12, 9 September 2025 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) The bot is behaving correctly. The file's non-free use rationale is only listed as for Silk Sonic; the rationale needs to correctly list the article the file is used on. * Pppery * it has begun... 17:14, 9 September 2025 (UTC)
I have done it now, thank you anyway! MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 16:07, 10 September 2025 (UTC)
@JJMC89: Just for reference, this was also asked about at WP:MCQ#An Evening with Silk Sonic at Park MGM where the OP expressed a concern that the edit summary left by JJMC89 bot wasn't explicit enough. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:01, 11 September 2025 (UTC)

Two categories merged to a third

Hi, a newbie at CFD listed some merges including some lines with the pattern

  • Source_1 and Source_2 to Target

This is not a valid format; they should have been listed on separate lines. The bot did process them, but not as intended; it processed them as if they had been coded

  • Source_1 to Source_2 and Target

See e.g. . I think it would be better if the bot did not process lines coded in this way, but skipped them, like it does for lines that are in conflict with other lines. – Fayenatic London 15:09, 5 September 2025 (UTC)

Creatively not following directions ... I'll take a look. —JJMC89 18:46, 6 September 2025 (UTC)
Such cases should now be skipped. —JJMC89 22:50, 12 September 2025 (UTC)

host key changed — ssh connection blocked

Hello. I tried to ssh to dev.toolforge.org as usual, but I received the error "WARNING: REMOTE HOST IDENTIFICATION HAS CHANGED!", and the connection was terminated. Was there a key rotation? Should I simply remove the existing host keys from my known_hosts file, or should I generate a new ssh key pair? —usernamekiran (talk) 02:37, 13 September 2025 (UTC)

The bastions were replaced. See listarchive:list/cloud-announce@lists.wikimedia.org/thread/I4M335NMS6CT23AT23P5PL4N3NUI2YMT. (You should subscribe to that list.) You can remove the old entries from known_hosts. You don't need to generate a new SSH key pair unless you were using an obsolete type like ssh-dss. —JJMC89 05:41, 13 September 2025 (UTC)
thanks. I subscribed. —usernamekiran (talk) 13:22, 13 September 2025 (UTC)

ACC tool account request

Hello, I submitted a request to join ACC around a year and a half ago and understand that my request probably hasn't been handled due to my inactivity during this period. However, I'd now be willing to chip away at a few requests, considering the rising backlog. I have previous experience on helping newcomers, especially at WP:TH and IRC, and have now read WP:ACCG again. My user ID is 2475, looking forward to your response. Why does JJMC89 bot III skip some speedy moves?

Hi, I'm just interested in the process of the bot. I've noticed with the speedy moves at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Working and Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Working/Large that some get skipped (ones in the middle of a list), and the bot can be inactive for hours so it doesn't appear to be working through them. What's the reason for this? Mclay1 (talk) 16:06, 13 September 2025 (UTC)

All good, I got an answer. The bot skips them when the target is blue-linked. That makes sense but it does create a lot of work for the very few human editors looking after the pages. Mclay1 (talk) 09:54, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
When the target exists, you cannot perform a move. A merge is required, so the move instruction is not valid. —JJMC89 17:44, 24 September 2025 (UTC)

File:I Wanna Be Loved (Ricky Nelson song).jpg at Mighty Good

Hi JJMC89! JJMC89 bot made this edit removing the above-captioned image as a WP:NFCC violation. Although I’ve edited Wikipedia for many years, I’ve done very, very little regarding images. So, my understanding of the issue here may not be correct. The dust jacket for the two-sided single covers the song for which there's already an FCC rationalization, as well as the song on which I was re-using it. This is because the titles of both songs are indicated in the artwork. Moreover, both songs independently charted (if that matters). Can I just copy and paste the existing rationalization to a new page with the other title and duplicate the image? Or, is it possible to add a second title to the text of the rationalization on the image page that already exists? I am sorry to come directly to your page, but I am somewhat intimidated to go to the images forums. Thanks!SpikeToronto 22:57, 22 September 2025 (UTC)

WP:MCQ is a better place for this type of question so that other's may give you quicker or better recommendations. Each use of a non-free file must have a separate rationale, specific to that use (criterion 10c). In this case, you could duplicate the existing rationale and update the |Article= and |Name=. —JJMC89 17:52, 24 September 2025 (UTC)

Flashback to 2017: coordinates conversion

It feels like forever since our 2017 project to convert coordinates parameters. Do you by any chance still have your old conversion code lying around? There are a couple hundred (I think) articles in Category:Pages using infobox settlement with unknown parameters that we either missed the first time or have had latitude and longitude parameters added since 2017. They need to be fixed. There are also a few that have coordinate-adjacent parameters like |longEW= that need removal. Do you have the time, code, and energy to make a run through the category? Not all of the articles will be listed under "L" in the TOC, since the articles are listed by only one of the unsupported parameter names. – Jonesey95 (talk) 00:48, 19 September 2025 (UTC)

I can dig up the code. It would require updates to run again today. Also, the required intermediaries (e.g., {{Geobox coor/sandbox2}}) no longer exist. For your example, |latitude= and |longitude= were not supported by {{infobox settlement}}, so the bot wouldn't do anything with them. I don't recall if what it would have done with the second example since no values were present for most of the parameters. Do you have other examples of formerly supported parameters currently in use that could be migrated? I wrote that to now realize that the category now empty. —JJMC89 18:28, 24 September 2025 (UTC)
Oops, never mind. It looks like Zackmann08 or another editor may have resolved this issue for us using another process. Thanks for looking. – Jonesey95 (talk) 12:20, 25 September 2025 (UTC)
I’ve been cleaning out the unknown param categories so happy I could help! — Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 19:06, 25 September 2025 (UTC)

NFCC Removal

My Rooster Teeth logo got deleted for free-use violations. If this keeps going, I'll just adding the file over and over again. No acceptations. Sawbrimedline (talk) 19:42, 26 September 2025 (UTC)

JJMC89 bot III made an incorrect recategorization

Hi JJMC89. With this edit JJMC89 bot III changed the category from Category:American boxers of Cuban descent to Category:American people of Armenian descent and Category:Sportspeople of Cuban descent. Clearly the Armenian category is wrong, it should have been Category:American people of Cuban descent. I don't know how to check if this was a one off mistake or more of a pattern. There were a few similar edits in my Watchlist, but all correct. I will go ahead and fix the Armenian/Cuban error. Thanks. Tassedethe (talk) 15:29, 27 September 2025 (UTC)

This is my fault - I fed wrong instructions to the bot (or, to be correct, failed to correct Crowsus' error - but as the admin it should be my responsibility, not Crowsus'). Working on fixing it now. * Pppery * it has begun... 16:20, 27 September 2025 (UTC)
