ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

edit

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:53, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Deletion of unsigned comments

edit

Hi Ike Lek, I'd like to point you to Wikipedia:Signatures#Dealing_with_unsigned_comments. Wikipedia does not endorse undoing unsigned comments as that changes apparent consensus, instead consider leaving a talkpage message on my talk page, like others have. Please refrain from doing this in the future. GalStar (talk) (contribs) 17:02, 27 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Understood. My apologies. That was poor judgement of me. Ike Lek (talk) 17:04, 27 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Notability of ambassadors

edit

You said in a recent AfD regarding list of ambassadors "am saying the list is inherently notable because the position and anyone holding it is inherently notable under WP:NPOL.". Ambassadors are not inherently notable in fact, hundreds have been deleted. LibStar (talk) 11:21, 10 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

If hundreds have been deleted, hundreds have been wrongfully deleted. Ike Lek (talk) 19:52, 10 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
No, it reflects community consensus. You can't just say inherently notable when they have been deleted. LibStar (talk) 23:09, 10 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
I can very much say that. Community consensus, at least in theory, controls whether or not they are deleted. Community consensus does not control my beliefs about notability, nor my interpretation of official English Wikipedia policy.
I can't stop them from being deleted if that is the consensus, but I can advocate against it to the best of my ability. Ike Lek (talk) 23:18, 10 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Note on Baidu Baike as a source

edit

Hey there! I appreciate the research that you do in AFD discussions. I did note this on the Liu Xiaosheng AFD already, but since I closed it as a nom withdrawal recently, I wanted to let you know directly about Baidu Baike. Since it is a collaborative wiki and encylcopedia, essentially China's censored version of Wikipedia, per WP:RSP, Baidu Baike was deprecated in [a] 2020 RfC as it is similar to an open wiki, which is a type of self-published source. Although edits are reviewed by Baidu administrators before they are published, most editors believe the editorial standards of Baidu Baike to be very low, and do not see any evidence of fact-checking. As a note for the future, given its deprecated status, it shouldn't be used for establishing notability or really anything on Wikipedia except in rare circumstances. Thanks! Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Abdul Hamid Tajik

edit

Thanks for your gracious response in the above discussion. If you want to read further on this it's also worth looking at the RFC that prompted WP:NSPORTS2022 and was about the notability of Olympians, which can be seen here. The notability of Olympians is an area that the community has invested a great deal of time in discussing to reach the present consensus at WP:NOLY that only medal-winners can be said to be likely to have significant coverage, not merely participants. Information icon Hello. Your recent edit to Luu appears to have added a non-notable entity to a list that normally includes only notable entries. In general, a person, organization or product added to a list should have a pre-existing article before being added to most lists. If you wish to create such an article, please first confirm that the subject qualifies for a separate, stand-alone article according to Wikipedia's notability guideline. Thank you. Ttwaring (talk) 02:50, 20 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

My apologies. I included a Vietnamese diacritic in his name that is not used in the English-language article title. I will fix it now. Ike Lek (talk) 02:55, 20 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Bertram and others

edit

Hello, thanks for un-deleting the articles. In my experience, a well sourced and referenced article is likely to get deleted. Consequently, I recommend to focus on fewer articles, fully referencing the content, before moving on. Cheers MisterBee1966 (talk) 06:25, 22 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

I'll spend some time on Bauer before I start un-deleting more. Good work on Fözö. Ike Lek (talk) 11:34, 24 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

I have made no personal attacks. I have criticized your conduct on Wikipedia. Please refrain from leaving warnings on my talk page without citing specific issues. Ike Lek (talk) 01:45, 8 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Critisizing conduct is a personal attack. The warning is fully justified. LibStar (talk) 01:46, 8 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
You made an AfD in bad procedure. I pointed that out. You will not harass me into silence. Ike Lek (talk) 01:52, 8 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
The warning is justified to further prevent any personal attacks. Your AfD comments sound like hounding following our interaction at a separate AfD. You are now on notice for personal attacks. Regards. LibStar (talk) 01:54, 8 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
You have made frequent personal attacks against me. I have addressed your misconduct. You have demonstrated a pattern of abusing the system to force cleanup of articles. Pointing this out is relevant to the AfD discussion. If you cannot take feedback, then escalation sounds necessary. Ike Lek (talk) 01:57, 8 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
The warning was justified. Please refrain from further personal attacks. LibStar (talk) 01:58, 8 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
I have made no personal attacks. Ike Lek (talk) 02:02, 8 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Please stop attacking other editors, as you did on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Luxembourg–Australia relations. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Comment on content, not on other contributors or people. for this subsequent personal attack , I ask you once again to refrain from personal attacks. Consider this your last warning. You aren't going to scare me into silence. Ike Lek (talk) 02:15, 8 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
You don't seem to get it, I'm not scaring you into silence, I'm asking you to refrain from personal attacks. LibStar (talk) 03:00, 8 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
I have not made any. Please stop badgering me. Ike Lek (talk) 03:09, 8 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
It's not badgering it's formal notification of personal attacks and a request to refrain from them. LibStar (talk) 03:11, 8 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
I have made no personal attacks. Ike Lek (talk) 03:15, 8 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
@LibStar I don't really think @Ike Lek was doing a personal attack, I think it was just a little bit uncivil. ~Rafael (He, him) • TalkGuestbookProjects 19:33, 30 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Help Deorphaning articles

edit

Hi @Ike Lek

Can you help me with any ideas on how to successfully deorphan this new article Zubairu Wai . Twicebefore (talk) 17:26, 20 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

I'm curious how you found me, and why you decided I was the person to ask, but sure, I'll take a crack at it. One somewhat cheap trick I sometimes use is lists of people with a certain name, but this case would be particularly difficult to do that for, even compared to other people with less known African names, as Wai can be a Chinese name and the Zubairu article is for the surname. If you are sure he meets notability standards, List of Sierra Leonean writers could be appropriate to add him to. Same thing with International University of Japan#Alumni and University of Toronto Scarborough#Faculty. Best of luck. Ike Lek (talk) 00:08, 21 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Refactor

edit

In regards to your question about this statement on refactor, it is in reference to the practice of WP:REFACTOR which is going through a talk page and making changes. In this case, specifically I'm referring to the fourth bulleted point Relocating material to different sections or pages where it is more appropriate. So I was simply suggesting you could move your comment to the excisting section and delete the new/redundant section. And since the user has not edited and very likely has not seen your message, you could even entirely delete it if you wanted to avoid "piling on" - if you choose to do either of those, you are more than welcome to delete/remove my reply as well with my permission. deletion/redirect of article Rudolf Witzig

edit

May I ask you to look into the deletion/redirect of the article Rudolf Witzig. A simple google book search reveals many books. I wonder if its deletion/redirect could be challenged? Thanks MisterBee1966 (talk) 06:46, 15 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

Sure. I'd be happy to. I assume you are banned from doing this yourself?
On a side note, have you seen my question/proposal in regards to Hubert Pölz on your talk page? Ike Lek (talk) 09:47, 15 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, not sure if I am banned? However, I am frequently a major contributor on World War II German soldier articles, consequently my view may be biased. Therefore, I prefer if someone else takes an outside view on the topic. Regarding Hubert Pölz, I have already added some content and referencing to the article. Pölz was a ground attack pilot, currently I have access to more sources referring to fighter pilots, an area I find easier to contribute to. MisterBee1966 (talk) 11:32, 15 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
Well, I've been working on some flying ace biographies, so I'd be happy to work with you on one of those if you are open to it, as I am still learning the systems here. Military aviators have become one of my four focus areas for editing. In that area, my goal is to fix up the List of Chinese WW2 aces and then get back to some bio work. As for Witzig, I've restored the article, and can make some improvements to it in the next week or two if you don't beat me to it. Ike Lek (talk) 19:39, 15 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
I am always open to constructive collaboration. MisterBee1966 (talk) 06:47, 16 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
