Replaceable non-free use File:Silvia Formenti Weill Cornell portrait.png
edit
Thanks for uploading File:Silvia Formenti Weill Cornell portrait.png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}}below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing<your reason>with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file's talk page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Gert7 (talk · contribs) 21:09, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
- I checked Wikimedia Commons and other openly licensed sources and couldn’t find any freely licensed image of the subject. The available institutional photo appears to be the only suitable and properly sourced portrait.
- The file is used only to identify the subject in a biographical context (infobox). It is not decorative and is not used in multiple contexts.
- Given the lack of any free alternative, this seems to meet NFCC #1 as no free equivalent is currently available. The use is minimal and strictly for identification purposes, and does not extend beyond the article.
- NFCC #8 is satisfied because the image helps readers identify a living academic figure where written description alone is not always sufficient for disambiguation.
- Use is limited to a single encyclopedic purpose and not reused elsewhere (NFCC #10). Gfusvh (talk) 23:54, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
- "Non-free content is used only where no free equivalent is available, or could be created". Under WP:NFC#UUI, non-free images may not be used for pictures of people still alive, unless the person's former appearance is the reason of their notability. Just because the average Wikipedia editor can't be expected to make one doesn't mean one cannot be made. This is the reason why articles of prominent living individuals like Sabih Khan or Sandi Peterson have no images, even though non-free images are available online. --Gert7 (talk · contribs) 08:51, 27 May 2026 (UTC)

Hello, I'm Katzrockso. A comment that you recently posted seemed to be generated using a large language model (an "AI chatbot" or other application using such technology). Editors should not use LLMs to write comments generatively. Communication is at the root of Wikipedia's decision-making process, and it is presumed that editors possess the ability to come up with their own ideas. Your comment may have been collapsed per the relevant guideline. If you want to practice editing, please use your sandbox. - Yes, I did use an LLM as an aide to help structure the argument. I believed the issue was important enough to handle carefully, and I was aware I was responding to an editor with a much longer Wikipedia history than mine. The idea, though, is mine, or rather Greilsamer's. It's not really an idea at all, it's a refutation of a claim that the primary scholarship doesn't support. Going forward my talk page contributions will be free of LLM-assistance. Thanks Gfusvh (talk) 07:41, 5 June 2026 (UTC)
