Translation attribution

edit

Hi there! Thanks for your page creations. Just a friendly note that when translating a page from another language's edition of Wikipedia, you need to include an edit summary providing attribution. I can see that you've been adding {{translated page}} templates to the talk pages — this is good practice but is actually optional, whereas the edit summary attribution is mandatory. You can refer to Help:Translation#Licensing for specific instructions, or you can see this edit for an example of how to do this. Thanks! MCE89 (talk) 12:50, 27 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

please, i checked the exemple ; is it like that :
{{Traduction/Référence
|lang=fr
|article=Zone autonome d'Alger
|oldid=224759588
}}
thank you for your time. Dzairium (talk) 13:09, 27 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Putting that template on the talk page is good practice and is definitely encouraged, but you also need to provide attribution in your edit summary when you create the page. If you forget to do so, you can also repair attribution through your edit summary on a later dummy edit. You do this by using an edit summary like:
NOTE: Content in this edit is translated from the existing French Wikipedia article at [[:fr:Name of page]]; see its history for attribution MCE89 (talk) 13:14, 27 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Information icon Hello, I'm Jlwoodwa. An article that you recently made, La nuit a peur du soleil, seemed to be generated using a large language model (an "AI chatbot" or another application using such technology). Text produced by these applications can be unsuitable for an encyclopedia, and output must be carefully checked. In particular, you should check each citation, and fictitious references must be removed. If you want to practice editing, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. jlwoodwa (talk) 19:50, 2 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello,
Thank you for your message. I had a brief internet outage; otherwise, I would have added to the article that it’s a translation. After checking, it seems that some of the source links were broken.

Speedy deletion nomination of Portal:Berbers

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Portal:Berbers requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Portal:Berbers. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Translation attribution in your edit summaries

edit

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you translated text from Les Enfants des néons to another page. While you are welcome to translate Wikipedia content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing requires that you provide attribution to the contributor(s) of the original article. When translating from a foreign-language Wikipedia article, this is supplied at a minimum in an edit summary on the page where you add translated content, identifying it as a translation and linking it to the source page. Sample wording for this is given here. If you forgot, or were not aware of this requirement, attribution must be given retroactively, for example:

NOTE: Content in the edit of 01:25, January 25, 2023 was translated from the existing French Wikipedia article at [[:fr:Exact name of French article]]; see its history for attribution.

Retroactive attribution may be added using a dummy edit; see Repairing insufficient attribution. You can read more about author attribution and the reasons for it at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. Οἶδα (talk) 18:13, 10 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

AI

edit

Hi -- I notice you mentioned your articles are translations. Are you specifically using AI tools to translate the text? Gnomingstuff (talk) 22:48, 11 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi, these are my own articles that I translate. Yes, I do use AI to correct the code or grammar and syntax errors sometimes! Is that against the rules? Thanks! Dzairium (talk) 22:55, 11 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
It is preferred that AI use is disclosed in all edit summaries and that thorough review is done of the output; see concerns mentioned below. Gnomingstuff (talk) 06:11, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
Hello, I just checked the help page and I am required to cite third-party tools in addition to those available on Wikipedia, and you're right. Thanks i,ll do my best next time. Dzairium (talk) 07:46, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Gnomingstuff: Yes....this is suspicious. They have created 65 articles in only 18 days. Looks familiar.... The articles have extensive issues pertaining to formatting and sources. And I just went down a rabbit hole and found Dzairium happened to edit the pages fr:Fernand Doukhan and fr:Ydir Amazit mere hours after a different user, who has contributed several AI-generated articles, as well as AI-generated photos like this and to Mohamed Saïl/fr:Mohamed Saïl. Dzairium just happened to become active upon the account vanishing of that user: Renamed user 88c0599858b87f4f9cb2f68189c85dc6 (talk · global contribs)..... I am not convinced that they are not using AI in the actual translations. Οἶδα (talk) 06:10, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
Hello, I do follow Wikipedia's policies, particularly verifiability and sourcing. The texts I put up are from cited and verifiable sources, and I make sure they follow an encyclopedic format. Translation tools are not banned on Wikipedia just like mentionned by @Gnomingstuff provided the content is checked. Proofread, corrected, by others who participate on the portal. I think the main thing is the source and the conformity of the text to Wikipedia's standards are what matter, If the formatting or references seem imperfect, I am willing to improve them or collaborate to correct the necessary points. Dzairium (talk) 08:05, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
Forgive me if my analysis is not as comprehensive as is necessary. The plethora of translated articles you created in such a short span of time makes that difficult. Though, it is immediately apparent that your articles are heavily (and excessively) reliant upon the following sources:
  • IMDb
  • Africiné
  • Africultures
  • MUBI
IMDb is a WP:USERGENERATED database and as such is not a reliable source for Wikipedia. The same applies to MUBI's database (https://help.mubi.com/article/272-how-do-i-add-or-edit-data-about-films-and-filmmakers-on-mubi). I am less familiar with the databases of Africiné and Africulture, though they do not appear to have great editorial standards. Many of the links I have viewed appear to be merely repeating content that is hosted on IMDb and The Movie Database (TMDB). Or hosting biographical details that are sourced from representatives that are not independent of the subject. Mccapra has already raised an issue with these sources at Talk:L'olivier de Bouhlilet#Transliteration. Οἶδα (talk) 22:01, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I understand your concern about accuracy very well. The thing is, I am deeply Francophone, but I feel it is my duty to enrich the Algeria portal, which is very poor in content. The problem is that English Wikipedia conventions are completely different. For example, TMDB is not prohibited. IMDB is a valid source. As for MUBI, I admit that I discovered it while checking the code of another wiki. Otherwise, Africultures and Africiné are well known here. I will be more careful from now on and take your comments into consideration. On the contrary, I am here to learn and try to improve.PS: For L'Olivier de Boulhilet, it's very complicated because the two names in Arabic and French are not the same, and if you watch the film, even the villagers don't know where the name comes from and they say both Boulhilet and Bouhlilet. Thank you very much for your time. Dzairium (talk) 22:14, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
Regarding the articles you cited, you should have dug a little deeper. You would have seen that I regularly browse the Algeria portal and create Wikidata entries for new articles, so when I see a new article, I try to improve it. As for the disappearance of the account you mentioned, I don't understand the connection to me. Don't you think that's a bit far-fetched? I am responsible for my account and only my account. I'm sure the administrators can verify that it's neither the same IP address nor the same person; in fact, it's not even the same country. Finally, I became active last October, and I haven't stopped writing articles in French while waiting to translate them. Thank you for your time and valuable analysis. It's fortunate that there are people who have the time and energy to go into the rabbit holes. Yours truly, Wikipedian
PS: I used google translate to correct my grammar, can I sir ? Dzairium (talk) 08:16, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
Far fetched? Possibly. I admit it could be a total coincidence, so forgive me if I am wrong. But I just can't ignore the similarities to another editor I am familiar with. Οἶδα (talk) 21:27, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
No problem, comrade, as long as it's for the growth of the encyclopedia, I accept. Sincerely. Dzairium (talk) 21:36, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
Hello, @Dzairium. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Areski Nebti, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Algerian. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ  Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
