Citations for the reference "Baron Sternberg" is particuarly common in references (especially public references, i.e. through newspapers)to his person contemporary to his existence. Examples are as follows that have been confirmed to specifically refer to Roman von Ungern-Sternberg in opposition to his many relatives who at the time were often also dignitaries but in other international spheres:

This form of reference seems to also be due to a common practice to refer to double-barreled noble names by the last portion of that name, or the last portion of the name in combination with the immediately preceding forename, if that person does not have a preferred (i.e. regnal) forename.
