New Page Reviewer Newsletter

Backlog update:
- The new page backlog is currently at 16,991 pages. We have worked hard to decrease from over 22,000, but more hard work is needed! Please consider reviewing even just a few pages a a day.
Technology update:
- Rentier has created a NPP browser in WMF Labs that allows you to search new unreviewed pages using keywords and categories.
General project update:
- The Wikimedia Foundation Community Tech team is working with the community to implement the autoconfirmed article creation trial. The trial is currently set to start on 7 September 2017, pending final approval of the technical features.
- Please remember to focus on the quality of review: correct tagging of articles and not tagbombing are important. Searching for potential copyright violations is also important, and it can be aided by Earwig's Copyvio Detector, which can be added to your toolbar for ease of use with this user script.
- To keep up with the latest conversation on New Pages Patrol or to ask questions, you can go to Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Reviewers and add it to your watchlist.
If you wish to opt-out of future mailings, go here. TonyBallioni (talk) 20:33, 24 August 2017 (UTC)
Deletion of a page
Hi,
I requested the deletion of the page Durgesh Kaushik. How do I take this process ahead from here?
Additionally, I have come across 3 similar pages from the Australian sub-continent which have similar issues. Should I flag them individually or the group flagging work better in your experience? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shashanksingh.1102 (talk • contribs) 10:52, 25 August 2017 (UTC)
Creation of a new page
Dear Captain,
I am part of a running group in India, we keep participating in Indian Marathon from last couple of years. as we see there are a lot of Marathon articles being organised in various cities in india, but when I created an article on indian marathon, it was deleted by an authority.
I don't know how, but I feel that this event should also be listed so that people can write/read more information about this.

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Paris & Simo is already properly categorized under Bands and musicians. It doesn't need to be in the general Music delsort. I've reverted your edit. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 20:47, 26 August 2017 (UTC)
deletion sorting - artists
Hi CAPTAIN RAJU I have noticed that you have been helping out with deletion sorting. Thanks for doing that. I have a small favour to ask: When sorting into Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Artists, can you please not include musicians? They have their own area. "Artist" in our classification system typically means "visual artist". See for example Category:Artists. Thanks, Mduvekot (talk) 18:04, 27 August 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for the advice.I understood your advice.I saw the category artist of the article. That's why I tagged Artists delsort.I'll keep this my mind in the next time taging deletion sorting categories Artists.CAPTAIN RAJU(T) 22:07, 27 August 2017 (UTC)

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
- Syntax highlighting is now a beta feature on Wikimedia wikis with text written from left to right. It will come to right-to-left wikis later. This beta feature is based on CodeMirror.
- You will now get a notification when someone tries to log in to your account and fails. If they try from a device or IP address that have logged in to your account before you will be notified after five failed attempts. You can turn this off or choose to get an email notification in your preferences. You can also turn on to get an email when someone logs in to your account from a new device or IP address.
Problems
- Some pages show the error
Lua error in mw.wikibase.entity.lua at line 34: The entity data must be a table obtained via mw.wikibase.getEntityObject. This problem happens on pages with a Lua module that use Wikidata. This has now been fixed and no new pages will get this problem. You still need to fix pages that were broken before and still show the error message. You can see how on this page.
Changes later this week
- You can block users from sending you notifications.
The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 29 August. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 30 August. It will be on all wikis from 31 August (calendar).
Meetings
You can join the next meeting with the Editing team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 29 August at 19:00 (UTC). See how to join.
You can join the next meeting with the Technical Committee. The topic this week is Migrate to HTML5 section ids. The meeting will be on 30 August at 21:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- In the future you will have global preferences. This means you could set something in your preferences to work in the same way on all wikis. You will not be forced to use global preferences. The developers are now asking if editors need exceptions. This is where you want to use global settings on almost all wikis, but have some wikis where you want it to work in a different way. If you want this you need to tell the developers now. You can do so on the talk page.
- New filters for edit review is a beta feature to improve recent changes pages. It will work on watchlists from 5 September.
The jQuery library will be upgraded to version 3 in September 2017. Wikis can ask on Phabricator to get it early, so they can help find and solve problems now.

WikiCup 2017 September newsletter
Round 4 of the WikiCup has ended and we move forward into the final round. In round 4, a total of 12 FAs, 3 FLs, 44 GAs, 3 FLs, 79 DYKs, 1 ITN and 42 GARs was achieved, with no FPs or FTs this time. Congratulations to Peacemaker67 on the Royal Yugoslav Navy Good Topic of 36 items, and the 12 featured articles achieved by Cas Liber (5), Vanamonde93 (3), Peacemaker67 (2), Adityavagarwal (1) and 12george1 (1). With a FA scoring 200 points, and bonus points available on top of this, FAs are likely to feature heavily in the final round. Meanwhile Yellow Evan, a typhoon specialist, was contributing 12 DYKs and 10 GAs, while Adityavagarwal and Freikorp topped the GAR list with 8 reviews each. As we enter the final round, we are down to eight contestants, and we would like to thank those of you who have been eliminated for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia. The lowest score needed to reach round 5 was 305, and I think we can expect a highly competitive final round.
Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. It would be helpful if this list could be cleared of any items no longer relevant. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to reduce the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck, and let the best man (or woman) win! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. - ACTRIAL, a research experiment that restricts article creation to autoconfirmed users, will begin on September 7. It will run for six months. You can learn more about the research specifics at meta:Research:Autoconfirmed article creation trial, while Wikipedia talk:Autoconfirmed article creation trial is probably the best venue for general discussion.
- Following an RfC, WP:G13 speedy deletion criterion now applies to any page in the draftspace that has not been edited in six months. There is a bot-generated report, updated daily, to help identify potentially qualifying drafts that have not been submitted through articles for creation.
- You will now get a notification when someone tries to log in to your account and fails. If they try from a device that has logged into your account before, you will be notified after five failed attempts. You can also set in your preferences to get an email when someone logs in to your account from a new device or IP address, which may be encouraged for admins and accounts with sensitive permissions.
- Syntax highlighting is now available as a beta feature (more info). This may assist administrators and template editors when dealing with intricate syntax of high-risk templates and system messages.
- In your notification preferences, you can now block specific users from pinging you. This functionality will soon be available for Special:EmailUser as well.
- Applications for CheckUser and Oversight are being accepted by the Arbitration Committee until September 12. Community discussion of the candidates will begin on September 18.
Issue with a troll
Hi, mate. I use the account "PeterMan844" to edit pages, and I am always using verifiable proof or citations to improve articles, but I had to post this request with my own IP address to avoid detection from a troll who continues to follow me around online. There's this annoying loser who keeps harassing me on message boards, posting abuse, and he has now followed me here, to Wikipedia. He is vandalizing my edits regarding Sylvester Stallone being an extra in films. He is doing this for no other reason than to harass me personally, because I talked about my beef with IMDb.com elsewhere, and this person is just stalking me based on information I provide about my Internet habits.
He is using the alias "HaggisHeadS" here.
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=The_Sidelong_Glances_of_a_Pigeon_Kicker&action=history
Please help. This man is also sending people to my friend's house, because he got his address from a video we had on YouTube which has since been made private. He won't go away. He keeps spamming and abusing me on anxiety related forums that aren't regulated any more, but nobody signs in very often who can deal with the hassle.
All the best!

New stub types
Hello! Just a reminder, instead of creating new templates and categories for just one or two articles, please check the List of stub types, or under Category:Stub categories, to make sure that an appropriate stub tag doesn't already exist. Stub categories should not be created, unless there are at least 60 articles for a particular template, and new templates are usually unnecessary, if one already exists in the same genre. And before creating new stub categories and templates, please follow the procedures at WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals. Thanks! Fortdj33 (talk) 04:31, 5 September 2017 (UTC)
- I understood your advice.There was not stub for my article.Stub/template was needed for the article.That's why I've created some stub/template.CAPTAIN RAJU(T) 11:06, 5 September 2017 (UTC)
- The point is, there is a procedure for creating stub templates. You should not arbitrarily create stub tags, just because you think they are needed for a specific article. And even if a new stub tag is necessary, you should propose an upmerged template that would feed into currently existing stub categories, until such time that there are enough stubs for a separate stub category. If you wish to propose a stub type which does not currently have 60 articles that could use it, please do so at WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals. Fortdj33 (talk) 01:43, 6 September 2017 (UTC)
