Smiley Terminology section
editHi Baystar, we both work regularly on this article and I wanted to reach out after the last couple of reverts. I'm happy for some of my edits to be rolled back if you disagree with them, but I feel that you might be misunderstood what I was trying to achieve with the edits. The terminology section for me isn't about the term, its actually just a continuation of the early/mid history of the Smiley. There is some good stuff in there, but I'm not sure the terminology section is right for it.
What I think the article is missing (and why I made the edits I did) is some clarification about the origin of the word smiley, not the design. Also as a result, I wanted to clearly identify where the word smiley was used historically vs say slogans as I think its quite important to document that.
Is there a workaround here? For example could we still have a terminology section as you want it but rename or relocate, while also having a dedicated section about the origin of the word? FelixFLB (talk) 12:48, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
- Hi FelixFLB, thanks for reaching out and explaining your perspective on the Smiley article edits. I appreciate your intent to clarify the origin of the word "smiley" and distinguish it from the design's history. However, IMHO I was rolling back commercial and promotional bias; I added some of your useful info. I am renaming the Terminology section to "Word Origin and Etymology." The part I think is important is the history of the 1950s Junior TREASURE Chest usage Bayoustarwatch (talk) 04:20, 30 April 2025 (UTC)
