International Women's Day Wikipedia Edit-a-thon, Oregon Jewish Museum, Thursday, March 7

The Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education, in partnership with social practice artist Shoshana Gugenheim and as part of the Art+Feminism Project, will host the 2nd Annual International Women's Day Wikipedia Edit-a-thon to edit and/or create Wikipedia articles for Jewish women artists. The event will be held at the museum on Thursday, March 7 from 4 to 8 pm. Pre-registration is preferred but not required. Members of the public are invited to come to the museum to learn about the editing process, its history, its impact, and how to do it. We aim to collaboratively edit/enter 18 Jewish women artists into the canon. Support will be provided by an experienced local Wikipedian who will be on site to teach and guide the process. This edit-a-thon will serve as both a public art action and a public educational program. Participants will have an opportunity to select an artist/s ahead of time or on site.

Please visit this link and the meetup page for more information. Thanks! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:25, 5 March 2019 (UTC)

Another user's problematic edits

Take a look at Theneondemon's edits. They go back far, and it's a pattern of them constantly changing the progress tables to fit their own view point. I'm not sure whether to take this to ANI yet, but it will help to have a few more eyes on it. Pinging Brocicle as well. Thanks. Nihlus 04:46, 8 March 2019 (UTC)

If it's disruptive and there's plenty of evidence showing constantly going against the consensus I don't see why it shouldn't be taken to ANI. Brocicle (talk) 15:14, 8 March 2019 (UTC)

A cup of tea for you!

And sympathy. As someone who has been hit before with a rapid-fire series of AfDs (sometimes by sometimes by sockpuppets, other times by POV editors,) I know ow overwhelming this can feel. I have learned a lot about mistakes I was making from deletion discussions, and am a more careful editor now. Don't take it too much to heart. A few deleted articles are not that big a deal. E.M.Gregory (talk) 18:38, 11 March 2019 (UTC)
@E.M.Gregory: Thank you, and I totally agree. Article deletions are not the end of the world to me, but I still don't think articles about notable topics should be deleted, and my biggest frustration is not being able to rescue everything at once. I've asked the nominator to slow down, and I'm trying to keep up as possible. I acknowledge some stubs may be lost, which I will just have to recreate and flesh out in the draft space. ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:45, 11 March 2019 (UTC)

WikiProject importance scale

Hello, I noticed that you have updated the importance scale of several WikiProjects. Out of curiosity, can anyone update this? What is the criteria that is used? For example, the importance scale for Pure Heroine is low even though I think it should be raised a bit higher given how many publications have cited the album as influential or a record that aided in pop music's transition to slower tempo songs and deeper lyrical content. What do you think? De88 (talk) 23:54, 17 March 2019 (UTC)

De88, Yes, quality assessment ratings are subjective and can be manually adjusted by any editor. Wikipedia:Content assessment and Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Release Version Criteria should provide helpful information. You should know, many editors (myself included) use the Rater gadget (User:Evad37/rater, formerly User:Kephir/gadgets/rater) which automatically assesses and assumes low-importance as the default importance rating. This is because for most WikiProjects, most articles are ranked low-importance. So, the tool starts here, then the community can change quality and importance ratings as they see fit. In other words, yes, you're welcome to change the ratings. ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:10, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
Thank you so much for the information. I will update the WikiProject important scale for artists I feel deserve a higher rating with proper judgment. De88 (talk) 00:54, 18 March 2019 (UTC)

Admins needed

I'm thinking about this... ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:07, 22 March 2019 (UTC)

During the situation with Tony85poon, I wondered why you're not an admin. I found User_talk:Another_Believer/Archive_24#No_mop? and I can say I was once like you, deflecting suggestions that I run for adminship, and those two points were two of my reasons for saying no. But, to those points, (a) I thought the admin nomination process would be a pain too, but it wasn't. There are a few challenging questions to answer, but they can help you reflect on your editing and what kind of admin you'd be. And (b) Mr Guye showed you that list of tools. It can get complex, but you can keep it simple too. If there's a vandal working fast and furious, you can block them. Protecting pages from vandalism, removing serious BLP violations from the edit histories, that's mostly what I use it for. If there's an admin task you don't want to involve yourself in, you don't have to! You could be the admin who blocks a stray vandal once or twice but otherwise focuses on the content. I'm still creating content about the same rate I was before. I was hesitant to take the plunge too, but I don't regret it. I doubt you would either. And we could use you as an admin around here.  Muboshgu (talk) 20:39, 22 March 2019 (UTC)

Muboshgu, I really appreciate your kind words and trust with admin tools. I've been approached many times to become an admin, both on- and off-wiki. Every time someone asks, I say I'll give this some thought, and then I end up forgetting once I start getting back into Wikipedia's trenches. So, I'll just say now, thanks and I'll give this some consideration once again, but don't hold your breath. I do wish I had some of these helpful tools, but I fear becoming an admin will make editing feel more like a job, rather than editing as a hobby for fun. ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:44, 22 March 2019 (UTC)
That sounds familiar to me too. I think I said "I'll think about it" in order to punt on it many times before I gave in and did it. I understand the concern about the responsibility. I had that concern too. It hasn't been a problem for me as all of the admin activities are voluntary. You don't have a "shift" where you have to be in charge of blocking vandals, protecting pages, or anything like that. You do it out of your own interest. I also think your hesitation/resistance/whatever-you-want-to-call-it is one of the signs you'd make a great admin. If you were going to abuse the power, you would've taken the plunge years ago. Take some time to think about it, but I won't let it drop that easily. :) I'll check in in a week or two.  Muboshgu (talk) 20:59, 22 March 2019 (UTC)
For what it's worth, I second this! Chetsford (talk) 22:50, 25 March 2019 (UTC)
Chetsford, You're kind, thank you. ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:41, 25 March 2019 (UTC)

Hi! It's been a week or two. What are your thoughts?  Muboshgu (talk) 15:44, 3 April 2019 (UTC)

@Muboshgu: I'm flattered, truly, but I think I'll continue to kick this can down the road. I'm mostly just not wanting to go through the process at this time. I've also spent a significant amount of time the last two weeks dealing with one specific editor, and this has reminded me how much I'd prefer to focus on content and not cleaning up after others. Do I think the tools would be helpful? Yes. Do I think I can be trusted? Yes. Do I think I've demonstrated dedication and enthusiasm for the Wikimedia movement? Yes. I might bite the bullet some day, but that day won't be in the immediate future. Thanks again for your support. ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:50, 3 April 2019 (UTC)
Well, that's too bad. I understand though. I also don't expect this is the last time you'll hear from me on this.  Muboshgu (talk) 16:25, 3 April 2019 (UTC)

Question about WP:NFCCP

Hi! Just want to ask your opinion on something I'd like to do in the Honey Davenport article. There's a section about the Monster Bar controversy, which was sparked by this flyer. That image itself is not licensed for reuse, but do you think it would be appropriate to add a low-resolution version of it to the article under WP:NFCCP? Armadillopteryxtalk 22:32, 23 March 2019 (UTC)

@Armadillopteryx: Thanks for your work on the article. If I'm being honest, I don't really know the answer. Generally, the only fair use images I add to Wikipedia are album covers. Consider posting a note on the talk page? ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:45, 23 March 2019 (UTC)
Armadillopteryx, I think the hangup will be #8: "Non-free content is used only if its presence would significantly increase readers' understanding of the article topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding." ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:03, 26 March 2019 (UTC)

Hello, Another Believer. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, and move subpages when moving the parent page(s).

Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.

List of tallest buildings in Portland, Oregon

Hi, Another Believer. I've noticed that you have worked on Portland-related articles in the past, and was hoping that you could offer some help with this article. I scheduled it for a future TFL appearance, but just noticed that one of the entries in the table has a failed verification tag. It appears that at least one of the sources lists a different height than we do, which may be why the tag was placed there. Would you mind taking a minute to look at this and see if we need to fix the entry in question? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. Giants2008 (Talk) 00:12, 20 April 2019 (UTC)

Giants2008, Hey! I reviewed the sources and agree, the height is not confirmed as 269 feet, if that's the reason the tag is present. I'm less familiar with this article, but I've posted a note on the article's talk page. ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:22, 20 April 2019 (UTC)

Portland bridges

Just wondering if it would be better to redirect Sullivan's Crossing and Flanders Crossing into I-84 and I-405, respectively, until they're actually built. It's fairly rare for a "normal" freeway bridge to have its own standalone article, and I've only seen Gibbs Street Pedestrian Bridge as an exception to this. SounderBruce 02:10, 22 April 2019 (UTC)

SounderBruce, Hey! I assumed these were appropriate stubs and there would be enough coverage about these projects for articles longterm, but if you feel strongly you can redirect. You certainly know more about infrastructure standards, and I'll keep these on my radar for future development. ---Another Believer (Talk) 02:47, 22 April 2019 (UTC)
I've already loaded the Sullivan's Crossing content into Interstate 84 in Oregon#Banfield Freeway, and will do the same for Flanders Crossing (along with turning them into redirects). SounderBruce 02:58, 22 April 2019 (UTC)

Eschoryii, Ok, thanks, I noted your reply on the article's talk page for future reference. Hopefully someone else knows how to remove the error. Happy editing! ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:27, 9 May 2019 (UTC)

Ping

Hey, Another Believer! I got a messaged that you mentioned me here two days ago, but for the life of me I can't seem to find it. Probably not enough coffee yet. Did you want me for something? --valereee (talk) 12:42, 11 May 2019 (UTC)

Valereee, Hmm, maybe I accidentally pinged when I merged the Nostrana sections above. Sorry for any confusion! ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:30, 11 May 2019 (UTC)
No worries at all, just wanted to make sure you weren't asking me for something and I simply wasn't seeing it! --valereee (talk) 00:06, 12 May 2019 (UTC)

Face of the Sun

Hey, would you mind weighing in with your thoughts here Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2019 May 15? In ictu oculi nominated a redirect I made to The Space Between the Shadows, Face of the Sun, for deletion. Just thought you might want to know since you made the album article. Thanks! No Vacancy Lounge

Hello:

The copy edit you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article No Vacancy Lounge has been completed.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

I did not make the change, but you might want to consider putting Swanburg's second quote in the Reception Section in a blockquote format, it's long enough, although visually it might look odd with no text after it.

Best of luck moving the article forward.

Regards,

Twofingered Typist (talk) 14:13, 15 May 2019 (UTC)

Twofingered Typist, Thank you! I've just nominated the article for Good status. Much appreciated! ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:14, 15 May 2019 (UTC)

Request to review article draft

Hi there User:Another Believer. You may recall I asked whether you would review a draft of an article about a female journalist, Sarah Jones. I think you agreed (!). Anyway, here it is. Would love any feedback, particularly whether you believe she meets the notability standard for individuals.

Thanks in advance for any guidance. DanDavidCook (talk) 21:33, 15 May 2019 (UTC)

@DanDavidCook: Thanks, I'll take a closer look soon. Meanwhile, I wonder if you're willing to save your markup at Draft:Sarah Jones (journalist)? You can still make changes to the draft page before moving into the main space, or submitting for review by Articles for Creation (if you choose). ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:41, 15 May 2019 (UTC)
Sure happy to do that. Appreciate your help. DanDavidCook (talk)
Great, thanks! I'll review the draft page then and collapse the markup above. ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:12, 15 May 2019 (UTC)

This week's article for improvement (week 21, 2019)

Categorizing songs and albums

To not take up so much space in the main discussion, I will provide an overview here to attempt to understand your expectations using albums by The 1975 as an example. The 1975 have four albums and four EPs within Category:The 1975 albums.

Let's ignore the new album and the EPs for now. Based on the sourced genres of their 3 albums, I've categorized each album article in the respective categories (or the "by nationality" sub-category). Based only on those 3, what do you see as permittable within Category:The 1975 albums? Each of the three has rock or a subgenre of rock, each has pop or a subgenre of pop, each has a subgenre of R&B and each has a subgenre of electronic music, so can its parents be: Category:Rock albums by English artists, Category:Pop albums by English artists, Category:Rhythm and blues albums by English artists, and Category:Electronic albums by English artists? StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 01:40, 21 May 2019 (UTC)

Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars, By adding categories to Category:The 1975 albums, you're implying all 8 entries are rock, pop, R&B, and electronic. You should not be categorizing Category:The 1975 albums. Instead, you should be adding categories to individual articles. So, yes, this is correct and the genre categories should be removed from the parent (artist) category. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:03, 21 May 2019 (UTC)
But if their only albums were those three under those genres (please ignore the other albums and EPs for this example). Just those 3 albums is what we are looking at and assuming they have no others.
In this example for these three albums only, I am not assuming they are all rock, electronic, R&B and pop, they actually fall under these genres with sources in the article. Thanks. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 16:55, 21 May 2019 (UTC)
Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars, Too complicated. No genre categories needed for "The 1975 albums" when the album articles can be categorized appropriately. This is exactly why we need to stop categorizing artist categories by genre. Requires too much work and can be subjective. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:58, 21 May 2019 (UTC)
You've got your work cut out for you then. Good luck. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 17:08, 21 May 2019 (UTC)
Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars, Yeah, no kidding. The system has been setup poorly from the start, unfortunately. I'm trying to get editors to determine what project pages need to be updated so this can be addressed longterm. ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:13, 21 May 2019 (UTC)

Fear in a Handful of Dust

You redirected this album article back to the artist Amon Tobin back in February – I agree it was the right thing to do at the time, given that the album's release was still more than two months away and there was no information about it at that moment. However, we now have at least five reviews from reliable sources and an article, albeit a primary source interview in Clash magazine . Do you think we could restore the article now? Richard3120 (talk) 15:45, 24 May 2019 (UTC)

Richard3120, Sure, be bold and edit this page! ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:46, 24 May 2019 (UTC)
Thanks :-) just thought I should check with you that you agree it's now notable enough for its own article. Richard3120 (talk) 15:48, 24 May 2019 (UTC)

Wikipedia:The 50,000 Challenge

Hi, the list ends at 4500. I'm not sure who should be notify. Need to start a new list 4501-5000. Thanks, SWP13 (talk) 22:04, 24 May 2019 (UTC)

SWP13, Thanks for the heads up! ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:33, 24 May 2019 (UTC)

>>Thanks for starting a new list. BTW, there was a numbering problem in all of the archived list. I fixed all the lists. Trial and error, and dumb luck. :) SWP13 (talk) 22:28, 25 May 2019 (UTC)

SWP13, Actually, I think they were correct before. Now there's a stray bullet point for the first entry, and the two columns have become one. ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:40, 26 May 2019 (UTC)

>>I saw numbers from 1-9, and 0, repeated before. After my update, the numbers displayed correctly. Maybe there is an alternative fix. SWP13 (talk) 00:44, 26 May 2019 (UTC)
