- I did not mean to disrupt Wikipedia. If my intention would have been to disrupt Wikipedia, why would I have become a Wikipedian? See, For a long time, I had wanted to edit Wikipedia, so, my intention was not to disrupt Wikipedia 's information. I am sorry for the formatting mistake. But, the composer's information is true.

Request reason:
Though I have been on Wikipedia for 11 months, I am still not aware of many of its policies. Though, I knew about the Indic Script one, I thought that the policy stated that Indic scripts should not be added if the subject in the article has many names in different languages. I didn't mean to make disruptive edits, I only wanted to make the page better as "Raj" is a Hindi word so I thought that adding it wouldn't violate the policy, If I had known that properly, I wouldn't have added it. I am really sorry, that what I did violated the policy of Wikipedia. I will try my best to not violate the policy again in the future. I humbly request you to unblock me for now, as getting blocked from Wikipedia kind of depresses me. My intent was solely to improve the page. Please unblock me. The block is no longer unnecessary because as a responsible Wikipedian will ensure not to repeat the mistake Amogh Tripathi (talk) 19:54, 15 April 2025 (UTC)
Accept reason:
WP:ROPE unblock after assurance and understanding detailed below Abecedare (talk) 20:53, 15 April 2025 (UTC)
- Amogh, you were told of the WP:INDICSCRIPT guideline on June 27, 2024; gave an assurance that "I will not repeat this mistake"; were reminded of the guideline on March 29, 2025 after further violations; acknowledged that warning, albeit snidely; and, still continued in the same vein on multiple pages. This is disruptive.
- Yet, I am willing to unblock you early if you can assure me that you have read and understood the guideline; will follow it and ask questions if in doubt; and, that you understand that if such disruptive or WP:IDHT conduct is repeated, the next block may be indefinite. Abecedare (talk) 20:15, 15 April 2025 (UTC)
- I assure you that I will read the policy, will not repeat the disruptive edits that I involuntarily made and will ask questions on the talk page more than ever before in case, I think that edits that are being reverted might actually be helpful. Like the "Raj" one. I'll be grateful to you for unblocking me. Amogh Tripathi (talk) 20:21, 15 April 2025 (UTC)
- Amogh, don't just promise to read the guideline in the future. I'll need you to verify that you have read and understood it before any unblock. Sorry to be strict about it, but your continued defense of your problematic edit as "helpful" is not re-assuring. Abecedare (talk) 20:28, 15 April 2025 (UTC)
- So, how should I assure you? How will you be able to verify? Do you want me to give a summary? Will that let you verify? Amogh Tripathi (talk) 20:33, 15 April 2025 (UTC)
- You just have to say that you have read and understood it, once you have done so. Abecedare (talk) 20:35, 15 April 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah. Just read the whole policy. By the way, adding Indic Scripts to military ranks of Pakistan and India wouldn't violate the policy, would it? Besides, I added them because I noticed that some ranks like Havildar, Naik had their Hindustani spellings added before so, seeing this, I added spellings on other ranks too like Subedar which you just reverted. So, if you unblock me thank you very much, I am grateful to you and I will solve my doubts and queries by writing them on your talk page especially if somehow they can violate the Indic Script policy. Amogh Tripathi (talk) 20:42, 15 April 2025 (UTC)
- You can ask about the applicability of the policy to particular article(s), at their talk pages or at the relevant wikiproject noticeboards. But any attempt to add the scripts without first gaining consensus will likely lead to sanctions. I'll also drop you a note about the special rules that apply to edits about South Asia. Abecedare (talk) 20:50, 15 April 2025 (UTC)
- Okay, okay for sure. And yes, be sure to add the note about the special rules for editing. Thank you, you made me a better editor. Introduction to contentious topics
editYou have recently edited a page related to India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practices;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.
Indian Army
editPlease note that there was no such thing as the British Indian Army. It was simply called the Indian Army, as it is today. While we use British Indian Army as an article title for reasons of disambiguation, we should not generally use it unpiped in articles referring to it. Officers were commissioned into the Indian Army, not the British Indian Army. -- Necrothesp (talk) 09:24, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for telling me this. I will remember this fact and take care not to use "British Indian Army" in the articles again unless necessary to distinguish between the modern one and the one during British Raj. Thanks again and have a nice day! Amogh Tripathi (talk) 15:28, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
Khushal Singh Jamadar honorary titles and flags
editI've removed Raja from the lead, see WP:TITLESINTITLES./
Also the flag. "Flag icons may be relevant in some subject areas, where the subject actually represents that country or nationality – such as military units or national sports teams. In lists or tables, flag icons may be relevant when such representation of different subjects is pertinent to the purpose of the list or table itself. Words as the primary means of communication should be given greater precedence over flags, and flags should not change the expected style or layout of infoboxes or lists to the detriment of words." Doug Weller talk 08:30, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi. Thanks for bringing this policy to my attention. I will keep this in mind and try my best to ensure that this does not happen again whenever I am editing on Wikipedia. By the way, I didn't add Raja to the article when I was editing. I presume that this was a mistake. Have a nice day! Amogh Tripathi (talk) 14:00, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, you didn't add it, was just clarifying this bit. This is a common error made by a lot of editors. Doug Weller talk 14:43, 30 May 2025 (UTC)

edit@Abecedare. I would like to know In detail why am I blocked. Only then can I appeal to be unblocked. I would like to know which action of mine is harmful to Wikipedia so that I can avoid it in future. 'am waiting for your reply so that I can appeal further. - Amogh, as I pointed out in the block notice, you were told about WP:INFOBOXFLAG last week by RegentsPark in this discussion. Yet, since then the bulk of your edits have involved adding flags to infoboxes. And your reply to RP indicates both a misunderstanding of WP:V/WP:RS and that your reason for adding these flags is because in your opinion
the lack of flags makes the infobox less attractive.
. And, at least in one case, the flag you added to an infobox is sourced to a non-RS wiki. - This by itself, would not have warranted a block but unfortunately this is part of a pattern about which you have been warned before. See the various warnings and block notices above and especially the unblock discussion between you and me, which led me to reduce your month lock block to about an hour but with a warning that
if such disruptive or WP:IDHT conduct is repeated, the next block may be indefinite
. Abecedare (talk) 17:52, 30 May 2025 (UTC)- I have read the WP:INFOBOXFLAG policy and will try my level best to abide by it because though I might make mistakes involuntarily as it is human nature to make mistakes. I am not biased. I am ready to abide by the policies of Wikipedia. Until today, I didn't bother to read the whole policy. But... Now I did. I believe that I should be unblocked as soon as possible or that my block time should be reduced. The decision rests solely upon you @Abecedare so I can't do anything about that except for making efforts to correct my mistakes. I promise to use flags wisely though as I have mentioned above, I might make mistakes involuntarily for that I believe I should be notified. Okay, @Abecedare, it's up to you now to unblock me or reduce my block time. I believe that you will perhaps either reduce the block time or wait for the expiration of my block time which is an annoying 3 months long. Thanks. Amogh Tripathi (talk) 19:33, 30 May 2025 (UTC)

- Amogh Tripathi, you're adding a lot of flags to infoboxes. Not only is that inadvisable per WP:INFOBOXFLAG, most of the flags (the Mughal empire, the EIC, etc.) are not verifiable. If you want to be unblocked, you should promise not to add ANY flags to infoboxes. RegentsPark (comment) 20:09, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
- 👍If that improves Wikipedia and unblocks me, I am ready Abecedare and RegentsPark. I promise not to add flags ever again. You will see that I won't add flags again. Amogh Tripathi (talk) 00:46, 31 May 2025 (UTC)
- Since I have made a promise, I actually won't add flags but aren't the ensigns of the Presidency Armies correct. The Wikipedia article displays so besides the articles for Bombay Army, Bengal Army and Madras Army displaying the same. The template also shows the same. Anyways, , I am waiting to be unblocked I have already promised not to add flags and actually won't do that.Amogh Tripathi (talk) 00:55, 31 May 2025 (UTC)

Request reason:
I would like to be unblocked as I have read the policy of WP:INFOBOXFLAG. I also promise not to add flags unnecessarily and without reaching a consensus. And no, I am ready to hear what is wrong with my editing and try to improve that. One of the reasons for blocking me clearly says that I am not ready to hear what's wrong with my editing but that's not the case. I therefore, believe that I should be unblocked. Amogh Tripathi (talk) 05:43, 31 May 2025 (UTC)
Decline reason:
This talk page has red flags all over it, including but not only your earlier blocks, and if I'm honest I think you were lucky to avoid being blocked indef this time.
You need to start familiarising yourself with our policies and guidelines, and it seems to me that a three-month-break is an ideal opportunity to do just that; Abecedare has kindly provided some links to recommended reading, below.
Perhaps even more than that, you need to understand that this site relies on consensus and collaborating with others, which among other things requires you to listen to, and actually take onboard, advice when it is offered, and actively seek it when it isn't offered but you're unsure of what is expected.
My advice is to think long and hard about what in your editing and general demeanour led to you being blocked (again), and what needs to change to avoid being blocked in the future. Because continuing along this trajectory, another block seems all but inevitable, and it will almost certainly be an indefinite one.
I'm declining your appeal. DoubleGrazing (talk) 07:46, 31 May 2025 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
- Amogh, right now I am hesitant to unblock you myself because after the previous block-unblock experience, I'm afraid that the process we saw with WP:INDICSCRIPT and WP:INFOBOXFLAG will just repeat itself with some other policy or guideline. The underlying problem is that you ignore reading and following P&Gs even when they are pointed to you, and then promise to do so only after you are blocked for multiple violations. The bot reverting your edit, for example, shows that there was another problem with your edit than the WP:INFOBOXFLAG and WP:V issues I pointed out, and is not a point in your favour as you appear to imply above; did you read WP:NFCC that the both cited?
- That said, if you, RegentsPark or the admin responding to the unblock request have a suggestion for a better way forward, I am not averse to the current sanction being modified or lifted. Abecedare (talk) 05:51, 31 May 2025 (UTC)
Okay Abecedare. I assure you that I am going to read all the policies of Wikipedia before making my next edit on an article. Okay? I won't make a single edit unless and until I have read all the policies of Wikipedia as well as try to reach a consensus in case of confusion. Now, Abecedare, you can unblock me as I am not a vandal who is here to cause harm ro Wikipedia rather than contribute to its further development. Regards, Amogh Tripathi (talk) 06:12, 31 May 2025 (UTC)
- I don't believe that reading all P&Gs is feasible and certainly not what I expect/demand, especially when it comes to WP:MOS guidelines. I would suggest that your take the time your are blocked to read and understand (1) the MOS guidelines that others have previously pointed to you, and (2) the core content and conduct P&Gs that have been an issue with your editing, namely, WP:V (incl. the related WP:RS and WP:OTHERCONTENT) and WP:DE (particularly WP:IDHT). Abecedare (talk) 07:25, 31 May 2025 (UTC)
- Okay everyone. I will familiarise myself with the policies and guidelines of Wikipedia during these 3 months. Waiting to be back to editing but with a much better and careful version of myself😁 Take care @Abecedare and @DoubleGrazing. Have a nice day both of you. Best wishes, Amogh 07:54, 31 May 2025 (UTC)
