Hey

Please don't correct British/Australian spelling to US spelling

edit

Hi! Thanks for trying to help improve Wikipedia by correcting typos, but unfortunately you've incorrectly changed the spelling of "humourous" to "humorous" in a lot of articles that use British, Australian, New Zealand, Indian, Ghanaian etc English. Most versions of English include the "u" in humour, US and Canadian English are an exception. Did you use a tool to make all these changes? You did a lot very quickly and all for the same word. Could you please go through them and change back the ones that are on pages that are about topics that aren't US/Canadian? Lijil (talk) 11:51, 15 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi! I am aware that "humor" and "humour" are both entirely valid spellings. However "humorous" is incorrect - it is spelled as "humorous", even in British English. "Humourous" is also listed in the Wikipedia list of common misspellings.
Secondly, I did all the edits by hand, not with a tool. I checked that each "humourous" was not used in a quote (with [sic]) or title (wherein it was intentional), etc., before changing it.
Could you please undo your reverts on my edits? Thank you. 998stonehunt (talk) 12:12, 15 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
I checked the Oxford English Dictionary and it lists no variants of humorous. It is undoubtedly the correct spelling in all varieties of English. See Oxford English Dictionary, "humorous (adj. & n.)," September 2025, https://doi.org/10.1093/OED/1187468962.
As such I've reverted the mistaken reverts. 🌿MtBotany (talk) 16:58, 15 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
OMG, I am so sorry. I will definitely check and double check my spelling next time! Thank you, @MtBotanyfor fixing my mistake and I am very sorry about my idiotic wrong assumptions, @998stonehunt. Lijil (talk) 21:18, 15 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
It was a new quirk of spelling to me as well. It was not what I would have expected. Time for new saying, "There's nowt so queer as the English language." 🌿MtBotany (talk) 21:43, 15 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
