Overlinking
editI see that some of your edits have added links from one article to another, known as "wikilinks". Wikilinks can be very helpful, but it is a very common mistake among new editors to add too many wikilinks to articles. Generally speaking, a wikilink should be added only if it provides information which is likely to help readers of the article in which the link is placed to understand content of that article, or provide further information closely connected to content of that article. That normally means either a link to an article which explains words or expressions in the article containing the link, or a link to an article which provides background information which is necessary in order to understand content of the article containing the link. Linking to articles in other situations is not just unnecessary, it can actually be harmful, because research has established that the more irrelevant, or only slightly relevant, links there are in a page, the less likely readers are to find the ones which they might find useful. Thus, for example, nobody reading the article Vector graphics is likely to need to consult the article mathematics in order to understand anything in the article Vector graphics, so linking the one to the other is not likely to be helpful. - Thank you for that insight, it's really interesting. However, two references still hardly seems enough for a strong and notable article. There is usually a minimum standard. Can you provide a Wiki reference page to support that? I've not seen an article with only two references that wasn't considered a stub and actually a candidate for speedy deletion. 1305silverfish (talk) 18:46, 23 August 2025 (UTC)
- What article do you have in mind? The articles I mentioned have respectively 26 and 226 references. JBW (talk) 18:50, 23 August 2025 (UTC)
- That's from memory of years of reading Wiki articles. I was just asking for specific Wiki guidance, like a page in the Wikipedia editing manual about what you're saying. I agree with most of it, btw. It's just that even the example articles you mentioned are extremely well referenced. 1305silverfish (talk) 18:54, 23 August 2025 (UTC)

edit
Hi 1305silverfish! I noticed that you have reverted to restore your preferred version of GIMP several times. The impulse to undo an edit you disagree with is understandable, but I wanted to make sure you're aware that the edit warring policy disallows repeated reversions even if they are justifiable.
All editors are expected to discuss content disputes on article talk pages to try to reach consensus. If you are unable to agree at Talk:GIMP, please use one of the dispute resolution options to seek input from others. Using this approach instead of reverting can help you avoid getting drawn into an edit war. Thank you. Aoidh (talk) 22:04, 23 August 2025 (UTC)
Note that multiple accounts are allowed, but not for illegitimate reasons, and any contributions made while evading blocks or bans may be reverted or deleted.
If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you should review the guide to appealing blocks, and then appeal your block by adding the following text below this notice:
{{unblock|Your reason here ~~~~}}. Note that anything you post in your unblock request will be public, so you may alternatively use the Unblock Ticket Request System to submit an appeal if it contains information that must be private.Administrators: Checkusers have access to confidential system logs not accessible by the public or by administrators due to the Wikimedia Foundation's privacy policy. You must not loosen or remove this block, or issue an IP block exemption, without consulting with a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee. Administrators who undo checkuser blocks without permission from a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee may be summarily desysopped.
