- The origins are from Kannada literature in Karnataka as far back as 920 AD with clear evidence in Vaddaradane and Manasollasa. These are also mentioned in the history part of the wiki page. Its only in 17th century idli was even mentioned in Tamilnadu scriptures. SO the origin has to be mentioned as Karnataka. Not south India, this is cultural mis appropriation.
