U.S.A. vs. Norway

edit

On January 15, 1994, the U.S. played Norway in a friendly at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona.[1] The U.S. emerged victorious, winning 2-1 with goals from Marcelo Balboa and Cobi Jones.[2] Jones's game-winning goal came after a spectacular thirty-yard throw-in from Dario Brose.[3] Norway was ranked fourth in the world going into the match.[2] In news coverage leading up to the friendly, The Arizona Republic described the event as not generating significant attention.[4] Additionally, advertisements published in the days before the game contained inconsistent information, including differing kickoff times and references to the match as a 1994 FIFA World Cup qualifier rather than a friendly.[1][5] Tickets for the match were advertised at prices ranging from $15 to $40 and 15,386 people attended the match.[1][2]
