Melbourne Handball Club is an handball (also known as team handball, European handball, Olympic handball or indoor handball) club based in the Melbourne, Victoria. The club competes in domestic handball competitions in Australia and is affiliated with Handball Victoria and the Australian Handball Federation.
The club fields teams in local, national and occationally international competitions and is heavily involved in the development and promotion of team handball in Victoria.[1]
History and governance
editThe club, formerly known as Doncaster Handball Club, was established in 1993 by players seeking to support the development of handball in Victoria.
In 2019, Melbourne Handball Club became an incorporated association (not-for-profit) and has since operated as a volunteer-run sporting organisation.[2] The club is administered by a committee responsible for governance, membership administration, competition participation and development activities.
Competitions
editSince its founding, the club has participated in local leagues, national tournaments and inter-club invitational competitions. These include:
- Victorian Handball League – a seasonal competition for clubs in Victoria organised by Handball Victoria.
- Australian Handball Club Championship – an annual national tournament for Australian clubs organised by Handball Australia.
