The Battle of Ropar was a battle fought in 1710 between the Mughal Empire under the command of the Nawabs of Malerkotla and the Sikh volunteers of Doaba and Majha regions. The Sikhs were on the way to join forces with Banda Singh Bahadur before being engaged by the Mughals, with the latter being defeated. [1][2]
Background
editBanda Singh Bahadur had begun his advance from his hill capital at Lohgarh to Banur. Upon hearing this news, Sikhs from Majha and Doaba gathered at Kiratpur in order to join his forces. Hearing of this, the Mughal Faujdar, Wazir Khan, deputed Sher Muhammed Khan of Malerkotla to deal with the Sikhs, he along with members of his family marched against and barred the Sikhs at Ropar (Rupnagar).[3]
