Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know that you did something silly.- Also, I liked the new Oshwah user page =) VitorFriboquen :] (Talk) 04:47, 1 April 2026 (UTC)

- Bah, it’s definitely something but I can’t exactly pinpoint why that is the case. Though your response got a chuckle out of me this morning, hehe.

Question from Vince fed (12:23, 1 April 2026)
How do i create a profile for some one on wiki --Vince fed (talk) 12:23, 1 April 2026 (UTC)
- I'm not Oshwah (talk page stalker).
See: Wikipedia:Userpage VitorFriboquen :] (Talk) 16:03, 2 April 2026 (UTC) - Hi Vince fed! Welcome to Wikipedia! To expand upon Vitorperrut555's response to you above (a big thanks to Vitorperrut555 for doing that), it really depends on what you're referring to when you say the word "profile". Are you trying to create an article about somebody (an article subject)? Or are you trying to create a user page for your account? To get started with creating a new article, I recommend that you use the articles for creation process. This process is great for new editors and contributors who either haven't created a new article on Wikipedia before, or are still learning and will likely need some assistance along the way. It will guide you through what to check for and verify before you continue, as well as provide you with important help pages and information that you'll need to reference. Simply follow the instructions and directions that are provided for you there, and it will help you with creating a draft page. For the creation of a user page, simply navigate to the Wikipedia page that Vitorperrut555 provided for you above. Just make sure that you've read and understand what things that you are allowed to have on your user page and what things you are not allowed to have. :-) Please let me know if I can assist you with anything else, and I'll be more than happy to help! Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:22, 2 April 2026 (UTC)
Wow someone vandalised your RfA page
Can't believe someone decided to ruin April fools by vandalising your 3rd RfA page. And it's still ongoing. --Prothe1st (leave me a message)-- 00:12, 2 April 2026 (UTC)
- Update: Page now got protected. Looks like they used 5 different TAs and even created an attack page. Almost certainly an WP:LTA. --Prothe1st (leave me a message)-- 00:32, 2 April 2026 (UTC)

Notification that API queries using ?format=xml may stop working soon
Hello friend. You are receiving this message because technical logs indicate you have made more than a hundred API queries recently using ?format=xml, instead of the more standard ?format=json. This probably means you are using a script or bot with old code.
Do you have any idea which script/bot I'm talking about? And would you be willing to refactor your code to use ?format=json?
There is more info over in phab:T421973 and at mw:API:Data formats#Output, and you can also join the discussion in phab:T421973 if you'd like. Thanks! –Novem Linguae (talk) 08:50, 2 April 2026 (UTC)
- Either User:Oshwah/NewUserPatrol.js or User:Oshwah/AbuseFilterPatrol.js.

- For a JSON version check out User:Polygnotus/NewUserPatrol.js. I used the Page Visibility API to make sure it doesn't hammer the API too much. Polygnotus (talk) 09:51, 2 April 2026 (UTC)
- Novem Linguae - Polygnotus is correct; those are the two scripts that I coded and currently use that has this query formatting. Fun... I need to see what I'll need to modify so that I can change over to pulling this data using json instead of xml. Is there any reason why they're deprecating it (I assume that's the reason)? I'll obviously need to refactor both of these scripts if that query option is going to stop working. I just hope that the changes required aren't going to be a crazy amount... :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:29, 2 April 2026 (UTC)
- (Update): I just saw Polygnotus's revision of the script. Polygnotus, thank you for doing that! Holy crap... well, damn! I really appreciate that! Anyways, I'm currently at work and on my lunch break at the moment, so I'll likely implement the changes and move both scripts over to using json as soon as I get home for the day (about 2-3 hours from now). I appreciate both of you very much! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:35, 2 April 2026 (UTC)
- If you compare User:Oshwah/NewUserPatrol.js with in your favorite diff tool you'll see what I did to change it from XML to JSON.
- If you do the same on AbuseFilterPatrol it would probably work, but I can't test it because I am not a filter manager. Polygnotus (talk) 20:09, 2 April 2026 (UTC)

Is there any reason why they're deprecating it (I assume that's the reason)?
It looks like it's been deprecated since 2015. The reason isn't completely clear. We're trying to figure it out in the ticket. Feel free to join the discussion there if you'd like. We may put the brakes on this if there's pushback. –Novem Linguae (talk) 21:26, 2 April 2026 (UTC)- @Novem Linguae Are you aware of T212988? mw:API:Data formats says
(unlike REST API, the Action API currently does not support application/json input format.)
@Anomie: probably knowsformat xml seems to be a major source of problems, since it needs special handling all over the place.
- https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/API:JSON_version_2 is also of interest.
- I personally am in favor of killing it off because I dislike anything SGML-derived and JSON is better (even if it doesn't believe in comments for some fucking reason).
- In 2013 someone wrote this, would be interesting to get an updated stat (1/18th is relative, I want absolute numbers). Polygnotus (talk) 21:34, 2 April 2026 (UTC)
- FYI, my guess about the reasoning behind mw:Special:Diff/1937805 is "wishful thinking". If it had really been deprecated, then Special:ApiHelp/xml would indicate such (see e.g. Special:ApiHelp/query+deletedrevs).A little history may be useful: Yurik did the pioneering work on the Action API, then eventually moved on. Later I came along and did a lot of the "city planning" work, regularizing and cleaning up and making things more extensible. At some point Yurik came back and tried to do more "pioneering"-type work, with mixed results since it was no longer a "pioneering" type of thing, and then moved on again. I don't know what WMF people have been doing with the Action API since 2020 (if much of anything, versus chasing management whims around the REST API and "API portals" and such).P.S. As far as I remember, the XML format was more annoying to have to support back in 2013 than it was since gerrit:182858, in that it would just blow up if certain xml-specific hoops weren't jumped through. Now it just assumes some semi-reasonable defaults. Anomie⚔ 22:50, 2 April 2026 (UTC)
- Novem Linguae, Polygnotus, Anomie - Thanks for the additional information! After getting home from work earlier today, I was able to sit down and figure out the changes I needed to make in order to update both of my scripts, and they have been updated to now request JSON-formatted API responses instead of XML. In addition, because I also really liked what Polygnotus added when copying and making their changes to it (halting/skipping automatic API queries if the browser tab isn't currently active), I went ahead and implemented that into both scripts as well. Great idea, and thanks for adding that in and for sharing it! This will save a lot of API calls and server resources. Cool, everything looks good and I'm all set! Thanks again for letting me know about the deprecation of formatting XML API responses; I was completely unaware of it until I saw your message. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:23, 3 April 2026 (UTC)

- ~2026-71744-3 - Thanks for letting me know! I knew something was up when I saw the user was creating an LTA page and with such a low edit count. If anything, I thought the user was taking on this task much too soon for their level of knowledge and experience, because they had created the page before knowing what information should be included and before they had even gathered all of it together. Nonetheless, finding out that the user was a sockpuppet instead of just inexperienced also check out. ;-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:58, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
- It did make me feel suspicious, like why would an account with only 346 edits make an LTA case? Only users with thousands of edits can do this kind of thing ~2026-71744-3 (talk) 03:45, 7 April 2026 (UTC)
- ~2026-71744-3 - Just looking at a user's edits won't sufficiently reflect the level of knowledge and experience that they should have before performing tasks like this. However, that information alone can definitely be used to identify users who are much too inexperienced for the task if their edit count is very low (which was the case in this situation). At a minimum, users need to be experienced with identifying and investigating suspected sockpuppetry, as well as with the sockpuppet investigations process and how reports are handled. In addition, the user should obviously have a high level of knowledge, experience, and interactions with the particular LTA before trying to create an LTA page about them... lol ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:20, 7 April 2026 (UTC)

The administrator user permissions is not a status; it does not place me at a level that's "above" other editors in any way, nor does it give me any kind of "power", "command", "control", or "authority" over other editors or any kind of content. It's not a VIP access pass, a special group of elites or an or exclusive club where "membership" is given out by administrators and only to users who we think should be "cool like one of us", or something that's "traded" or "given out" in exchange for favors or good politics. Hey, How to add a row or collum in a table? --Mrfms (talk) 19:56, 6 April 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Mrfms! Welcome to Wikipedia, and thanks for leaving me a message here with your question! Wikipedia has a dedicated help page on the subject of building and expanding tables, and it'll provide you with all of the information and instructions that you're looking for. You can visit this page at any time by clicking here or entering "Help:Table" (without quotations) into the Wikipedia search bar. Take the time you need and give the page a read-through, and let me know if you have any questions or need any clarity or assistance with anything that's detailed there. - thanks Mrfms (talk) 20:09, 6 April 2026 (UTC)
- Mrfms - You bet! If you haven't done so already, I recommend reading through Wikipedia's getting started page and completing Wikipedia's interactive new user tutorial. These pages will provide you with extremely helpful introductions, walkthroughs, guides, tutorials, and interactive lessons that will help familiarize you with the important basics and fundamentals of Wikipedia - such as navigating around the website, locating important policies and guidelines that you'll need to know, understanding proper etiquette and how different processes on Wikipedia work, editing articles and communicating with other editors, and where to go if you need help or get stuck anywhere (you can of course reach out to me any time you need help, but you'll be shown where our different help pages are located while going through the tutorial pages). Most users who take this advice, review Wikipedia's getting started pages, and complete the interactive tutorials find themselves much farther ahead with their familiarity and proficiency with Wikipedia compared to those who didn't, I hope that you decide to do so as well. :-D Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:41, 6 April 2026 (UTC)

Question from Amirafan1 (10:20, 7 April 2026)
To add someone here --Amirafan1 (talk) 10:20, 7 April 2026 (UTC)
- @Amirafan1 (talk page stalker) I don't understand that people you want to add to Wikipedia VitorFriboquen :] (Talk) 13:45, 7 April 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Amirafan1! Welcome to Wikipedia, and thanks for leaving me a message with your request for help. Are you asking about how to create a new article about a person on Wikipedia? If so, I'll be happy to guide you.
- To get started with creating a new article, I recommend that you use the articles for creation process.
- Draft pages are very helpful and useful for new users, as they allow you all of the time that you'll need in order to to go through and complete any help and tutorial pages, write the article's content, locate and add references to reliable sources, and make changes and improvements as you continue researching the subject, and receive help from experienced editors in the event you run into any questions or get stuck anywhere. When you're ready publish your draft, you'll be able to submit it for review, and a reviewer will check it for any issues and let you know if there are any problems. If none are found, the reviewer will publish your draft by moving it to the article mainspace for you. I also advise you to review Wikipedia's policy pages on notability and verifiability, as they will be relevant to any articles that you try to create. Make sure that you don't have a conflict of interest with the subject that you'll be writing about, and make sure to follow Wikipedia's policy on no original research.
- Please let me know if you have any more questions, or if I didn't interpret what you were asking about correctly (please elaborate further as to what you're looking to do if this is the case), and I'll be more than happy to assist you further. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:02, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
Question from Rice muncher123 (16:27, 7 April 2026)
Hello, there is an section on the genealogy of the Rajas of Pratapgarh in the article Kingdom of Pratapgarh. Now I added some information with a source that is not backed by others and is a bold claim so it was removed. I acknowledge this but I would like to re-add the information but include the fact this is supported by a weak claim. So that readers of the article can infact access this information while understanding it is a bold claim. What do you suggest I do? --Rice muncher123 (talk) 16:27, 7 April 2026 (UTC)
- Hello Rice muncher123, just so you're aware, the content you're referring to is already mentioned in the article. See the final paragraph here. Alivardi (talk) 17:09, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Rice muncher123! Welcome to Wikipedia, and thanks for leaving me a message here with your questions. In general, you don't want to add any content to an article if the references or the sources you found are weak. Instead, we try to only add content if it's supported by a reliable source that's secondary and independent of the article subject. This assures that all content added to Wikipedia is verifiable, and referencing secondary reliable sources that are independent will make it less likely to be incorrect or false. If you still believe that weakly-supported content should be added to an article, I highly recommend discussing it on the article's talk page and getting input from other editors instead of simply adding it yourself. If anything, this will keep you out of hot water and make it less likely that you'll violate one or more of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. As Alivardi mentioned above, it looks like the content you're wanting to add is already present on the Pratapgarh Kingdom article (within the Founding of the ruling dynasty section). If this is indeed the case, then there's nothing that you need to do; the content is already present. If this is not correct, then I recommend starting a new discussion about it here. Please let me know if I can answer any more questions for you or assist you with anything else, and I'll be more than happy to help you further. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:14, 12 April 2026 (UTC)

we are an agency that will be creating and editing pages for our clients, where do we disclose we are paid editing on our page? --DarMHinesEditor (talk) 17:15, 7 April 2026 (UTC)
- Hi DarMHinesEditor, and welcome to Wikipedia! Information and instructions for how to properly comply with Wikipedia's paid-contribution disclosure policy can be found here. In a nutshell, the easiest way is to add this template to your user page:
(replacename of employerwith the person or company that's paying you, andname of clientwith the name of the client or who you're representing). Please let me know if I can answer any more questions or assist you with anything else, and I'll be more than happy to help! :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:24, 12 April 2026 (UTC)

Question from Junereads (06:26, 9 April 2026)
Hello, I hope you are doing well! I wanted to ask for your advice on something I ran into while editing. I found a really good academic source for a mountain page I am working on (the Trikuta Hills). However, the source says:
"According to modern geographical studies, the Trikuta Hills are incredibly ancient, dating back to the pre-Cambrian Age. Their age is estimated to range between 5 to 6 billion years."
Since the Earth itself is only about 4.54 billion years old, that age range is a scientific impossibility. My questions for you are:
1. For this specific edit, should I just say the hills were formed during the Precambrian age and completely leave out the impossible numbers? 2. As a general rule for the future, how does Wikipedia handle situations where a highly reliable source makes an obvious, impossible claim?
Thanks so much for your time and guidance!

- Hi Junereads! Welcome to Wikipedia, and thanks for leaving me a message here with your questions! Since your specific questions involve an article under a niche topic that I'm definitely not an expert on, I highly recommend that you start a new discussion on the article's talk page and ask for advice there. This will allow other users to respond, ask additional questions and get more information (if needed), and provide you with the input, advice, and assistance that you're looking for. If you look at the banner located at the top of the article's talk page, you'll see that the article is related to three different WikiProjects: WikiProject India, WikiProject Rajasthan, and WikiProject Geography of India. Asking your specific question on one or more of these WikiProjects' talk pages (such as Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Geography of India) is also recommended and will likely result in receiving helpful answers. Feel free to keep me updated and let me know if asking on the article's talk page and/or the talk page of one or more of the WikiProjects I listed resulted in receiving a helpful answer. Please don't hesitate to let me know if I can answer any more questions or assist you with anything else. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:46, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
Question from Chubbyho (14:10, 9 April 2026)
hello thanks sir i was looking for some website here adult fun for payment e.g stream --Chubbyho (talk) 14:10, 9 April 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Chubbyho, and welcome to Wikipedia! The best way to answer your question is to explain that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia; it's not a host or a repository of links, images, or media files. To find the exact kind of online content that you're looking for, I suggest that you use a search engine (such as Google) to help you. If, however, you're looking for anything related to Wikipedia or any articles or content, you're of course in the right place! However, I can only provide help and assistance with matters that are related to Wikipedia. Please let me know if you have any more questions and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:55, 12 April 2026 (UTC)

Anon request for email
Hi, Oshwah. You will probably get a notification of a message on my talk page, but I'm posting here to make sure. Someone on the temporary account ~2026-22215-320 has posted on my talk page asking to email me. They said that you know about the matter concerned, so if there's anything you can tell me about it, I'll be grateful.
They also tell me that you are "hampered by health issues". I am, of course, very sorry to learn that, and I hope it's something which will improve soon. JBW (talk) 20:14, 10 April 2026 (UTC)
- Hi JBW! I apologize for the delayed response to your message here. Oh yeah; I definitely received the notifications and pings about the discussion on your user talk page, and I just now had a chance to review it and get back to you. :-) I wasn't "hampered by health issues" as the user stated on your user talk page; I was just sick during the time we had last communicated, and I let the user know about it in my explanation for my delayed response. ;-)
- I was in recent contact via email with someone who reported information to me involving the globally banned user BrillLyle, which I forwarded to the Wikimedia Trust and Safety team as a result. I'm pretty sure that the temporary account you're talking to is the same user that reached out to me. Beyond the information that I've already sent to WMF T&S on their behalf, if this user needs to report more issues and instances of possible abuse by BrillLyle, they should contact the Wikimedia Trust and Safety team directly at ca
wikimedia.org, since this is likely what we'd be doing anyways if the user were to email one of us instead. I'll be happy to forward you a copy of the email conversation if you'd like to see it; just email me and let me know (I was quite certain that I had your email address saved in my list of contacts, but apparently I don't). Your advice to have the user create an account was also good, since doing so would make communication easier for them. If this user wishes to email us further about this, I don't have a problem with it at all - but, like I said, we'll likely be forwarding any additional information they provide regarding BrillLyle to WMF T&S, which is something the user could just send to them directly. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:36, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for that response. In view of what you have said I don't think I'll follow this up unless the person gets back to me. As for my email address, it's just as well that you couldn't find it, because I'm no longer using the email address that you would have had. JBW (talk) 08:41, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
- JBW - Heh, fair enough. :-) Please don't hesitate to hit me up if I can assist with anything else. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:12, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
- @JBW: @Oshwah: The WMF, particularly User:BMeehan-WMF and the T&S is aware about it, but weirdly enough the latter decided not to act on it. Perhaps because they mistakenly thought that BrillLyle had went stale even though I've since found out that the most recent identity that BrillLyle used is ~2025-41540-19 which, even though has expired, should be blocked just for symbolic clarity since the block-evader had already manipulated several editors in furtherance of her harassment campaigns; not to mention there's reportedly law enforcement attention since she had allegedly compromised a deacon's identity and her computer network to evade the global ban.
- The cleanup process is arguably the hard part which will entail simple edits and removals/reversions to deletions and revdels, the latter which will need your help since normal registered users cannot do them alone, let alone unregistered ones like myself. That's besides the issue of editing in protected pages. After the cleanup process (where WP:BANREVERT, WP:CHILDPROTECT or other relevant PAGs can be invoked) is done, to really close the book on the situation, two RfCs on two separate locus of content disputes should be held, and following that, some pages will need to be put in CT and ECR, the latter including WP:RUSUKR. In the end the complicated and delicate situation needs Ms. Meehan's personal attention since approaches based on political science and so forth, instead of standard sysopist approach, are keys to resolving it, and she happens to be the US Ambassador to Chile before she became WMF's CEO.~2026-22976-39 (talk) 20:23, 13 April 2026 (UTC)

Question from Myaccdragoslav201h (15:38, 13 April 2026)
How do i create a wiki --Myaccdragoslav201h (talk) 15:38, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) have you looked at the tutorial page? it should be very helpful for what you're trying to do! -- Aunva6talk - contribs 15:42, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Myaccdragoslav201h! Welcome to Wikipedia! I'll be happy to assist you with how to create a new article. :-)
- Since you're brand new to Wikipedia, I highly recommend that you read through Wikipedia's getting started page and complete Wikipedia's introduction and new user tutorial before you make any edits or take on any major tasks around here. These pages will provide you with extremely helpful walkthroughs, guides, and interactive lessons that will help familiarize you with the important basics and fundamentals of Wikipedia - such as navigating around the website, locating important policies and guidelines that you'll need to know, understanding proper etiquette and how different processes on Wikipedia work, editing articles and communicating with other editors, and where to go if you need help or get stuck anywhere (you can of course reach out to me any time you need help, but you'll be shown where our different help pages are located while going through the tutorial pages). Most users who take this advice, review Wikipedia's getting started pages, and complete the interactive tutorials find themselves much farther ahead with their familiarity and proficiency with Wikipedia compared to those who didn't, and I hope that you decide to do so as well.
- Once you've finished with the tutorials that I linked you to above, you should be able to at least get started with creating a new article. To do this, I recommend that you use the articles for creation process.
- Please let me know if I can answer any more questions for you, and I'll be happy to do so. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:51, 13 April 2026 (UTC)

Question from Camon Lipscomb (06:04, 20 April 2026)
Hello, how are you today. I have a question about adding pages to Wikipedia and about userAccount subPages. On Wikipedia, does an article submitted need to be reviewed by an editor before it will be posted to Wikipedia? For UserAccountSubPages, do the pages that a user posts to their own subPages need to be reviewed by an editor before being posted? --Camon Lipscomb (talk) 06:04, 20 April 2026 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) it's not required, but it is highly encouraged to use the Articles for Creation process, especially for new editors. also the New Pages Patrol or Recent Changes Patrol volunteers are likely to review any or all new articles. -- Aunva6talk - contribs 15:44, 20 April 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Camon Lipscomb! Welcome to Wikipedia! Please accept my apologies for the delay responding to your questions here. I've been busy as of late, and I'm currently using one of my backup computers while I'm getting repairs completed on my primary one. ;-) As Aunva6 stated above, what you're referring to regarding the submission and review of new pages is Wikipedia's article's for creation process. Although it's certainly not required, using the articles for creation process is something that I highly recommend and highly encourage to all new and novice editors, as well as contributors who aren't 100% proficient with article creation or are still learning and will likely need some assistance along the way. It will guide you through what to check for and verify before you continue, as well as provide you with important help pages and information that you'll need to reference. Simply follow the instructions and directions that are provided for you there, and it will help you with creating a draft page.

Question from Dau Queiroz (15:47, 20 April 2026)
Olá, como faço um artigo sobre um livro? --Dau Queiroz (talk) 15:47, 20 April 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Dau Queiroz! Welcome to Wikipedia! I apologize for the delay responding to your question (which I translated to "Hey, how do you make an article on a book?"); I've been busy as of late and I'm running on a backup computer while I'm repairing my primary one (which should be fixed tomorrow or the day after, once parts arrive). ;-) There isn't a special or different process associated with creating an article about a book compared to creating one about pretty much anything else. One page that I highly recommend that you review before you decide to proceed is Wikipedia's guidelines on the notability of books. This will help you to verify that the book that you wish to create a new article about meets Wikipedia's notability guidelines. If it doesn't, I wouldn't waste any time with trying to do so. For a potential article subject to warrant the creation of its own article, it must be notable - and the page I linked you to will guide you though how to check this. From there, if everything looks good, you can use the articles for creation process to begin. Simply follow the directions there in order to create a draft page where you can start saving your work until the page is ready. Please let me know if I can answer any more questions for you and I'll be more than happy to help! Again, I welcome you to Wikipedia, and I wish you a great day and happy editing. :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:31, 29 April 2026 (UTC)

Question from Ari Colon Three (07:27, 23 April 2026)
Hi there, I've been planning on working the page on the COVID-19 pandemic in Tasmania and was wondering whether I should refer to the pandemic in the past tense or the present tense. On other similar articles and the article for the pandemic itself, I generally see to it referred to in the past tense, so my guess would be to update the Tasmania article to refer to it similarly. However, I am not completely sure of this, and so would appreciate it greatly if you could clarify this for me/point me to clarification on the issue.
Additionally, I have a question about a source I used when editing the page for the game 'Scooby Doo! Who's Watching Who?'. In the reception section, I cited a review of the game in an issue of Nintendo Power which I found via the metacritic page's mention of it. I was able to find a copy of this issue and review in an archive.org collection of magazine scans, which is how I determined what score to list and what page to reference.
The template for a magazine article reference template includes parameters for an archive-url and an archive-date. However, I usually see this used to add links to Wayback Machine copies of online articles published on webpages -- rather than scans of paper articles published in print magazines. Would it be appropriate to use this parameter to link to the archived copy of the magazine I looked at to find this information, or is it better to simply not include those parameters?
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. :3 -- Ari Colon Three (talk) 07:27, 23 April 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Ari Colon Three! Welcome to Wikipedia! I'll be more than happy to answer your questions and help you! Your question about whether or not to refer to COVID-19 using past-tense or present-tense is a great one to ask! I took a look at the main COVID-19 article, and it refers to the disease itself or in general in the present-tense (Example: "[COVID-19] is a contagious disease caused by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2") but refers to events in the past involving COVID-19 in the past-tense (such as the COVID-19 pandemic, which was an event). The answer to your question here is that it's not a black-and-white "always use it in past-tense" or "always use it in present-tense" situation - it depends on the context and exactly what you're discussing. If the article will mostly cover the pandemic in that particular region, much of it will likely be in the past-tense, as these were events that occurred in the past.
- To your next question: I don't see an issue with using the 'archive-url' and 'archive-date' parameters of the Cite magazine template to link to the archive.org page that you found of the media. Remember: we encourage everyone on Wikipedia to be bold! So long as you're not engaging in copyright violations or other serious policy violations, you're not going to be chased after by other editors with torches and pitchforks because you made good faith attempts at improving articles, but didn't do everything 100% correctly while doing it. Wikipedia is founded and based off of making improvements to an article after the last editor who modified it; if you do something imperfectly, other editors will undoubtedly fix and expand those articles after you're done with them, and so will the next editor after that editor is done, and so on... ;-)
- Please let me know if you have any more questions or if you need assistance with anything, and I'll be more than happy to answer them and lend you a hand. ;-) Again, welcome to Wikipedia! Your questions were awesome, and I hope that you take off your jacket, have a seat, and stay here for awhile! That's exactly what I figured I'd do one day when I decided to join Wikipedia and make some edits and help out around the project. 19 years went by, and... I'm still here! :-) I hope you have a great day and I wish you happy editing! :-D Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:58, 29 April 2026 (UTC)

Logo not appearing
Hi, Oshwah. I uploaded the logo for the South African Department of Small Business Development using WP:Upload under fair use, since it isn't available under a free license for Commons. However, the logo does not display, on the Wikipedia page and the upload page. I've added it to the article's infobox, but it appears transparent. The file page itself also shows the image as blank. Though when I click through to view the file directly, the logo displays correctly (see here). This is the second time I've uploaded the file. The same issue happened before, and I requested it to be deleted. The file is not blank as seen by the wikimedia link. Do you have any suggestions on what the problem may be or how to fix it?
Thanks! beegskin • 🖂 • 🖉 • 14:50, 23 April 2026 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) Hi Beegskin - both the image in the article and that on the file page look fine to me. Have you tried clearing your cache? - Arjayay (talk) 15:01, 23 April 2026 (UTC)

I suppose if it's displaying correctly on your side, it should be visible to other readers

- Hi Beegskin! Please accept my sincere apologies for the delay with responding to your request for assistance. I've been busy as of late, and I'm also operating on one of my backup computers while waiting for parts to arrive so i can finishing repairing my main one. :-)
- Arjayay is correct above; whenever I upload a newer version or an updated image to replace an old one on Wikipedia, I'm always having to clear my browser's cache before I'll be able to see that it's deployed. Even then, depending on where the image is located and its use (usually in templates), I'll also have to perform a purge to the server's cache as well before I'll see the updated image. Since Arjayay reported that they can see the image just fine, clearing your browser's cache should fix the problem. Is this still an issue for you right now, or were you eventually able to see the image? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:32, 29 April 2026 (UTC)

Question from Yannpyu (14:54, 23 April 2026)
Hello Oshwah! Id like to ask, how I should develop my skills?
For the last few months, i've been mostly doing newbie tasks given by the automated suggestions. I feel that I should try to dip my toes into other tasks, such as updating articles and extending stubs.
p.s I love your user page, I kinda need help on how I should edit mines. --Yannpyu 14:54, 23 April 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Yannpyu! Thanks for leaving me a message with your question, and I apologize for the delay with responding to you. One nice thing (out of many) you'll find out about volunteering and contributing to this project is the fact that there are numerous amounts of different tasks and areas that you can participate in. If the task of improving and expanding article content is something you feel drawn to, there's an easy way to get started. I'd start by figuring out what topics and article subjects interest you the most. For example, if articles on... let's say... major tornadoes interests you, perfect! There's lots of those articles out there!
- Once you've gotten that part figured out, you should navigate to Wikipedia's WikiProject directory page and find a WikiProject that's related to the subjects that interest you. Back to my example: If I go to this section of that WikiProject page I linked you to and enter "tornado" into the search field, the first result that's returned? Wikipedia:WikiProject Severe weather/Tornado! This WikiProject will have a list of tornado-related articles that need work, which ones are outdated, backlogs and discussions about them, and all involving other editors who are interested in the same exact topic as you are! That's how you get involved with improving and expanding articles! Give that a try and let me know how it goes. If I can answer any more questions, please don't hesitate to let me know. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:00, 29 April 2026 (UTC)

Afternoon mentor, I started a research on Ethics group, Traditions and culture. Am I allowed to post on this platform or question something? --David Omphemetse Pholoholo (talk) 10:23, 25 April 2026 (UTC)
- WP:Original Research would be a good starting place. typically, Wikipedia prefers that articles be supported by reliable secondary sources. it can be acceptable to use primary sources in some situations, but secondary is preferred. -- Aunva6talk - contribs 14:56, 26 April 2026 (UTC)
- Hi David Omphemetse Pholoholo! Welcome to Wikipedia! So, with what I'm reading from your message here - you're researching the subject of ethics, tradition, and culture? Or are you studying something more specific? Can you elaborate further this? When you say, "post on this platform or question something" - that statement is a bit ambiguous. Is "this platform" referring to Wikipedia, or what you're researching? If you could elaborate further and provide me with more information on what you're trying to do, I'll be able to understand and fully answer your question. Let me know. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:44, 30 April 2026 (UTC)

- Hi GamingOnGeek! Welcome to Wikipedia! User subpages are easy to create; you simply navigate to the location, create the page, and go from there! So, for example: If I want to create a subpage within my user space and with the title "GamingOnGeek", I'd simply navigate to
User:Oshwah/GamingOnGeek(which would be located here) and create the page. Bam! Done! Is there a specific subpage that you're trying to create? Do you need help with this further? Let me know. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:48, 30 April 2026 (UTC)
