"God Is a Dancer" is a song by Dutch DJ and record producer Tiësto and English singer Mabel from the former's sixth studio album, The London Sessions (2020). It was written by Tiësto, Josh Wilkinson, and Violet Skies, with production handled by Tiësto and Wilkinson. Incorporating elements of house and pop music, the dance-pop track was released on 20 September 2019 for digital download and streaming by Musical Freedom under exclusive license to PM:AM and Universal as the third single from Tiësto's album. It was also included as a bonus track on the final digital reissue of Mabel's debut album, High Expectations (2019). Tiësto described it as a feel-good song for dance floors and festival crowds, and praised Mabel as the ideal collaborator. An acoustic version followed on 25 October 2019, with a distinct cover image.

"God Is a Dancer" reached number one on the US Billboard Dance Club Songs, and peaked at number 15 on the UK Official Singles Chart, number 16 on the Dutch Top 40, and number 25 in Ireland. It received platinum certifications in Brazil, Poland, and the United Kingdom. The official music video premiered on Tiësto's YouTube channel on 20 September 2019 and shows Mabel performing choreography with a group of dancers. Mabel promoted the song through multiple live performances in 2019–2021, including for Capital and Hits Radio.

Release and composition

edit

Following his collaboration "Ritual" with Jonas Blue and Rita Ora, Tiësto released "God Is a Dancer" shortly after Mabel's debut studio album, High Expectations (2019).[1] It was released on 20 September 2019 for digital download and streaming by Musical Freedom under exclusive license to PM:AM and Universal, as the third single from Tiësto's album, The London Sessions (2020), and as a bonus track on the final digital reissue of Mabel's album, High Expectations.[2][3][4][5] An acoustic version was released on 25 October 2019 for digital download and streaming by Musical Freedom under exclusive license to PM:AM and Universal, with a distinct cover artwork.[6]

"God Is a Dancer" was written by Tiësto (Tijs Verwest), Josh Wilkinson, and Violet Skies (Hannah Berney), with production handled by Tiësto and Wilkinson.[7] Running for two minutes and 48 seconds, it is a dance-pop song that incorporates elements of house and pop music.[2][8][9] The track features a lively, rhythmic melody with club-oriented instrumentation.[1][3][8] Tiësto described the song as a feel-good track he wanted to share with dance floors and festival crowds, and said that Mabel delivered strong vocals, adding that he could not think of anyone else more suitable to collaborate on the record.[1]
