"Time Moving Slow" (stylized in all caps) is a song by American hip-hop superduo ¥$, composed of rapper Kanye West and singer Ty Dolla Sign, released as the second track on their second studio album, Vultures 2. The song features addition vocals from the Curva Nord Milan ultras. West and Ty Dolla Sign produced the track alongside The Legendary Traxster, Nathan Butts, and Cruza.
Background and composition
editThe song was initially worked on for ¥$'s debut album, Vultures 1 before being worked on for Vultures 2.[1][2] The song would end up on an early track list for Vultures 1 alongside other Vultures 2 songs "Slide", "Promotion", "Lifestyle", "River" and the digital deluxe tracks, "Gun To My Head" and "Drunk".[3][4][5]
The song features an intro from addition vocals from the Curva Nord Milan ultras during the intro and chorus. In his first verse, West raps about his personal struggles, such as in lines like "Got my heart broke, I liked that bitch a lot".[6] As well as out of pocket lines such as "Reach for the popcorn, oops, that's my cock."[7]
Release and reception
edit"Time Moving Slow" released on August 3, 2024 as the second track from ¥$'s album, Vultures 2.[8][9]
Titus Rodriguez compared the sound of the track to West's album The Life of Pablo calling it "decent".[10] HotNewHipHop's Gabriel Bras Nevares likened the song to an alternate demo to "Flowers" from Donda 2.[11] Multiple critics preferred the original version of the song, Billboard's Micheal Saponara considered the song a "crown jewel leftover from Vultures" however the alterations have taken down the production down a few notches. He added that the Hooligans and raw drum kicks soak up soulfulness from the original version.[7] Complex's Peter Berry listed bringing back the original version of "Time Moving Slow" as one of the ways to fix Vultures 2.[12]
Commercial performance
edit"Time Moving Slow" peaked at 39 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.[13] The track also charted on the US Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart, peaking at 22.[14]
