4 January Unnamed Fishing vessel South Korea Gageodo, South Korea Collided with rocks and ran aground Three people were killed, 19 were rescued.[5][6]

12 January Kerstin Motor barge Netherlands In the Main near Aschaffenburg, Germany Steering failure, became stuck Wedged at a lock entrance while avoiding an allision with the passenger ship Amadeus Silver II ( Germany). Later refloated with assistance from motor barges Käthe Krieger and Henneburg (both  Germany).[12]
12 January Silver Sincere Tanker Malaysia Off Pedra Branca, Singapore Sank All eight crew rescued from lifeboats by Intan Daya 368 ( Indonesia).[13]
13 January Ameray 888 Catamaran Thailand Koh Racha Yai, Thailand Sank 38 people rescued, including 33 Chinese tourists.[14]
15 January Unnamed Vessel Off Western Sahara Capsized Departed from Mauretania on 2 January, 50 people killed.[15][16]
17 January Miss Sandy Fishing vessel United States Off Gloucester, Massachusetts Sank All 18 crew rescued by USCGC William Chadwick ( United States Coast Guard).[17][18]
