Hi, I'm Crestfalling, and welcome to my userpage! It's nice to meet you, and thanks for your contributions, whoever you may be.

Regarding wAwB edits:

TLDR: Following MOS:NOTLATIN and MOS:JAPANCOM for citation parameters by transliterating katakana/kanji that map directly to official English names.

Long version: I'm currently standardizing citation parameters for several commonly-used Japanese-language websites by changing the default text (retrieved by Citoid) to the official English names. According to MOS:JAPANCOM, "Japanese terms should be romanized according to common usage in English-language reliable sources ... [including] the official English name for companies and organizations". Romanization is also advised by MOS:JANAME ("It is generally recommended to use the current English name that is used officially [by a company, product, or organization].") More broadly, MOS:NOTLATIN notes that "Names and terms originally written using a non-Latin script ... must be romanized for English-language use."

Using a website's official or widely recognized English-language name helps readers research it themselves. This is in line with existing practice: for example, at the time of this revision, "website=Comic Natalie" has thousands of usages, compared to just 85 for "website=コミックナタリー ".

The following transliterations are being made, with all being official names or ones given by reliable sources. Brackets are literal transliterations for reference (but are not actually used, per MOS:JAPANCOM), and parentheses within brackets are translations by the website itself. If the length of the name is shortened, it's due to removing duplicate information (for example, identical English and transliterated text); no actual information is lost.

  • コミックナタリー [Komiku Natarī] -> Comic Natalie
  • 音楽ナタリー [Ongaku (Music) Natarī] -> Music Natalie
  • 映画ナタリー [Eiga Natarī] -> Eiga Natalie
  • ステージナタリー [Sutēji Natarī] -> Stage Natalie
  • Real Sound|リアルサウンド ブック [Riarusaundo Bukku] -> Real Sound Book
  • Real Sound|リアルサウンド 映画部 [Riasusaundo Eigabu (Movie)] -> Real Sound Movie / (Note that the website itself uses "Movie" as a translation in the top header bar)
  • Real Sound|リアルサウンド テック [Riasusaundo Tekku] -> Real Sound Tech
  • Real Sound|リアルサウンド [Riasusaundo] -> Real Sound
  • 映画.com [Eiga.com] -> Eiga.com
  • オリコンニュース [Orikon Nyūsu] (ORICON NEWS)-> Oricon News / Note (MOS:TRADEMARK)
  • SPICE(スパイス)[Supaisu]|エンタメ特化型情報メディア スパイス (Entertainment-focused Media) -> Spice / (Note MOS:TRADEMARK, and that the tagline isn't part of the website's title).
  • MANTANWEB(まんたんウェブ)[Mantan Uebu] -> Mantan Web / (Note MOS:TRADEMARK, and that reliable English-language sources put a space after "Mantan").

(Wikilinks are provided for convenience, but aren't actually added due to unclear consensus on wikilinks in citations. If you would like parameters to be wikilinked, please let me know and I'll see about starting a discussion.)

About

About

edit

I've been using Wikipedia for many years. I joined out of a desire to improve long-underdeveloped articles, particularly ones with available references that simply haven't been used. So far, I've greatly enjoyed my experience here, and hope to continue helping out. If you're an editor here, thank you; if you're not, then it's a great time to start.

Projects

edit

I usually work in the area of WikiProject Anime and manga, a personal interest of mine. I focus on adding details about series' productions and receptions, which are crucial for establishing real-world context and notability. I also assist with internal project pages, such as by updating listings of reliable sources at WP:A&M/ORS.

While the media I work on overlap with my personal interests to some extent, the degree of available sourcing is what usually takes precedence. In a few cases, I've even improved articles about series I'm personally not a fan of, which, if I've done my job well, should look pretty much the same as the ones I do enjoy. It also means my openness to collaborating on an certain article might be greater than you expect, so always feel free to ask.

Aside from that, I'm part of WikiProject California and WikiProject Music, two topics quite important to me. I also enjoy copyediting; I see it as a small amount of work to help improve the impact of others' efforts. If that sounds appealing, considering joining the Guild of Copy Editors. Finally, I do a mishmash of cleanup and maintenance work, including standardizing formatting with AutoWikiBrowser (and its amazing relative, wAwB), adding citations to unreferenced articles, and reviewing new articles.

I'm interested in editor retention, and have signed up as a mentor for new users, along with welcoming them whenever possible. I encourage others to do the same.

Contact

As of May 2026, I'm active here and should see any talk page messages quickly. If I don't reply within a day, feel free to follow up.

If you'd like to send a file or discuss something over email, please message my alternate account, Crestfalling's mail. This is only necessary if the email involves attached files or requires a reply from me; otherwise, you can email this account. Alternatively, I have an account on the Wikimedia Discord server (just type my username in the search bar). If you contact me via email, please notify me somehow, since I don't check it very often. Thank you!

Also, there are many accounts named Crestfalling on the internet. Only a few of them are mine, but feel free to ask about one anyway if you're curious; I won't consider this outing.

Editing standards

Inspired by both things I've seen and users who I admire. Although my main topic areas are rarely ones that involve any contention, it never hurts to be accountable.

I pledge to:

  • be willing to explain any edit I've made.
  • never undo someone's work without explaining why.
  • never re-revert any edits unless necessary to prevent core policy violations.
  • seek and respect uninvolved third opinions in case of disagreement.
  • pursue all possible informal methods of dispute resolution before seeking formal ones.

If I haven't upheld this, please let me know on my talk page and I'll make it right.
