An Asafo is a Ghanaian Fante military organisation formed by the local community to protect their own particular village. These groups began to be formed in (date).

Fante (Fanti) people. Each village had a military unit called an Asafo company whose purpose was to defend the town. The Asafo kept their weapons in a central storehouse called a Posuban/Possaban/Posseban. Asafos also have flags which depict their group in some way.
