Early life and education

edit

Ahmed was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and later immigrated to Australia. She completed her secondary education in Bangladesh before undertaking postgraduate studies at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, where she graduated with a Master of Arts degree in Applied Linguistics and Language Learning.[1] Her early short prose and student journalism pieces appeared in regional campus media during her time abroad in Canada.[1]

Literary career

edit

Ahmed began publishing short fiction collections, historical novelettes, and creative essays in 1987.[1] Her prose typically covers themes of cross-cultural migration, psychological memory, and diaspora.[2] Aside from her independent publishing, she operates as an editor for literary publications, including serving as a Fiction Editor for the travel and place journal Panorama.[1]

Her 2017 volume, The Pacifist, was evaluated by the Midwest Book Review, which noted her narrative approach to character interiority.[5] Her subsequent compilation project, Gatherings, was released in 2021 through Bridge House Publishing and cataloged for distribution under global public library registries.[6]
