Hi y'all!
editI'm Apteryx, I'm just some RainWing who figured out how to use a laptop. Yes, my name is the scientific name of the kiwi bird, that is intentional since they are my favorite animal behind the dragon. I'm a WikiDragon-WikiGnome thing that makes big edits but I also pay attention to details like spelling and grammar. Sometimes I go back and reword sentences though. Don't believe the propaganda about us WikiDragons, we like being petted.
Notes on my editing style
edit- I am a part of the welcoming committee, so I will sometimes have massive bursts of 25-50 edits where I go through the user creation log and place welcome messages on the talk pages of new accounts that have contributed. Yes, I know it looks like editcountitis, but I just want to help new users out. I've been doing this less since reaching EC status, because I now have the permissions I need to work on whatever articles I want, unimpeded by vandalism protections, but I plan to sometimes go through the user creation log and welcome a few people every now and then.
- I will sometimes "adopt" an article and work on it obsessively over the course of a week, so if you see me making a lot of edits to one or two articles, that is likely what I am doing. If you want to see a list of articles I have worked on, you can see it here.
- I exclusively use the visual editor because my brain is the size of a grape and it can't grasp the concept of wikitext, although you will occasionally see the "switched" tag in my edit history when I attempt to do something with the source editor that the visual editor is incapable of (such as repositioning userboxes on my userpage or correcting something on a Talk page).
- I am a very indecisive writer, and you will often see me rephrasing my sentences until I am happy with them. Sometimes when I am writing, I get so caught up in the flow of "what comes after this sentence/paragraph" that I forget to re-read what I already wrote before I publish it. I also have a tendency to add useless inline links that I then remove as I reread my work and judge which links are helpful. I know it again looks like editcountitis, but that's not the case. I just am dumb.
About me
editI'm here on Wikipedia because I want to learn more formal and unbiased writing, and I also want to feel like I am contributing to something. My life goal is to be a storm chaser, which is going great so far. I've already seen a tornado up close, and I am definitely going to be one of those maniacs who make an armored vehicle so they can get inside a tornado. However, storm chasing is an unstable career, and fun things are expensive, so I will probably end up in journalism. If I get lucky, I want to someday be an anchor or political analyst for the a major national news outlet and I hope the high standards of writing on Wikipedia will help with that goal.
Ambitious pipe dreams aside, I like to spend my free time writing, perfecting my racing lines in Redout 2, falling down Wikipedia rabbit holes, and reading Wings of Fire. I love D&B music, country music, and breakcore music (thanks, Ultrakill).
I could probably go on for a dozen more paragraphs about myself, but I also like to have a readable user page, so feel free to ask anything on my talk page. If the banner at the top of the page isn't clear enough, please trout me if I do something dumb. Have a nice day, nerds!
Linkies I use
editWelcoming Committee - Place I can go copy the welcome template code
User creation log - Place I can stalk to find new users to be nice to
WikiProject Weather - The central hub for all the weather nerds so I can find articles that need some help
WikiProject Severe Weather - a more specialized and even more nerdy place to find work
Weather article requests - For when I am bored out of my mind and want to make an article about the weather
Welcome Template - A template I use when welcoming new users.
