Azam Vianney Mansha (ˈɑːzɑːm ˈvɪəni ˈmɑːnʃɑː; born 16 August 1985), commonly known as Fr. Azam Mansha, CJM, is a Pakistani Catholic priest, biblical theologian, and author. He is a member of the Congregation of Jesus and Mary and serves in the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego. He was ordained on February 8, 2021.[1]
Early life and education
editMansha was born and raised in Karachi, Pakistan. He is the third child of Mansha Sharif Masih and Surriya Bibi. He received early education in parochial schools associated with his native parish, St. Anthony of Padua Church, located in Frere Town. He discerned as a seminarian from the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Karachi, Mansha obtained his philosophical studies at St. Francis Xavier Seminary in Lahore from 2005 to 2008. The seminary is affiliated with the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome, from which he earned a Bachelor of Philosophy. He further pursued theological at the National Catholic Institute of Theology in Karachi between 2009 and 2014. The institute is academically affiliated with the Melbourne College of Divinity.[2]
Following his early theological studies, Mansha continued advanced ecclesiastical studies at the Loyola School of Theology of Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines. He earned a Licentiate of Sacred Theology in 2018, which specialized him in biblical theology. His licentiate thesis, titled Mother of Jesus, His Mother and the Woman: An Attempt to Understand Johannine Mariology, is held in the theological collection of the Pontifical Marianum University in Rome.[3]
Priestly ministry
editFollowing the completion of his licentiate studies in biblical theology Mansha participated in pastoral, academic, and formation work in the Philippines. He served as a formator, researcher, catechist, and lecturer in different theological institutions and formation houses in and around Quezon City, Metro Manila. During this time, he was part of the faculty of the Institute of Formation and Religious Studies at Maryhill School of Theology, where he taught courses related to Scripture and theology. Mansha was ordained on 8 February 2021 as a member of the Congregation of Jesus and Mary. In 2022, he was assigned to the Eudist community in San Diego, California, where he did pastoral ministry within the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego. As of 2024, Mansha serves as associate pastor of St. Patrick Catholic Parish in Carlsbad, California.
