I edit sometimes... I'm from Christchurch, New Zealand, trying to make a difference in this often-forgotten corner of the world. I mainly edit articles related to New Zealand, particularly its biodiversity. I have a strong interest in native and poisonous plants, especially their ecological roles, characteristics, as well as in wood and traditional uses. I've also become interested in more obscure topics, such as fungi, especially species in the Cortinariaceae family and wood-decaying fungi. I want to improve Wikipedia's coverage of such organisms.

Outside Wikipedia, I follow the Russo-Ukrainian war. I'm into photography and use a Sony α1 II (mainly for personal use). To clarify, I don't use the same username on any platforms other than Wikimedia Projects.

This page is mostly a collection of stuff and links I find useful. I have significantly worked thru the articles listed here. There is also a list of photographs of my favorite plant species (changes often)...  :-)

Thoughts

It is The Reader that we should consider on each and every edit we make to Wikipedia.

Wikipedia is unique. It's not controlled by a megacorporation and is one of the few large websites that doesn't have ads on it. It's not primarily generated by large language models, which are prone to inaccuracies. Wikipedia is already special because it is one of the world's most visited websites and is free, open, and editable. The work contributed by editors is genuinely impactful, and I'm grateful for that. I was inspired to write my thoughts on this after reading Alan Liefting's essay, The Reader, to which I'm indebted, having been directed to it by an essay from Beyond My Ken.
