Template-protected edit request on 25 August 2020

edit

Please add the .mbox-tfd class to this template to make it easier for this template to be detected using code. (This is a templates for discussion nomination template, so it makes sense, but feel free to do tfm.) Aasim 06:12, 25 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Primefac (talk) 10:49, 25 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
I find this request to be perfectly clear.  Done * Pppery * it has begun... 13:56, 25 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, sleep-addled brain looking at requests, for some odd reason I was looking at {{tfm}} itself. Sorry 'bout that. Primefac (talk) 14:53, 25 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Better handling with merging a template with a module

edit

The current version of the template does not allow for merging a template with a module and setting one of the display types as |type= is also used to set the merge target as a module. There are a few ways to fix this. One would be to add another parameter to set if the target is a module. Another would be to just use the full link name, including the namespace. I don't see a reason why writing "Test module" instead of "Module:Test module" would be better (at best, you need to remember not to copy the full name).

I've edited the sandbox with a version with the above change. Gonnym (talk) 12:18, 3 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Seems reasonable, though the Twinkle folks will want to know about it. Primefac (talk) 12:24, 3 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Notified now. Gonnym (talk) 12:31, 3 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Too wide above side bars

edit

If possible, please fix this so that it is only as wide as the template it is above. It's causing trouble on some pages where it displays above a side bar. If there is already a setting for this, please make that easier to find in the instructions. Late Night Coffee ☕ (talk) 09:56, 24 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Could you give an example page or two? Primefac (talk) 10:15, 24 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
Someone on the help desk showed me how to fix it using "type=sidebar" and it worked. Late Night Coffee (talk) 16:05, 24 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
Good to hear. Primefac (talk) 16:13, 24 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
It's fairly obvious in the instructions too, I just didn't read very carefully. Late Night Coffee (talk) 16:06, 24 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Template:TfmTemplate:Template for merging – This template is a holdout to the general trend (i.e. WP:TPN) towards expanding template names for clarity (see e.g. {{afd}}, {{mfd}}, {{cfd}}, even {{tfd}}). The primary argument made in 2016 was essentially "{{subst:tfm}} was how everyone used the template, so why change?" but the shortcut will still work after moving the page. However, because of that discussion in 2016 I feel like moving it now unilaterally would be problematic, even though consensus on the matter appears to have changed over the last ten years.
