Species param to be used for humans?

edit

Regarding this edit, should the Species parameter be used even for humans? DonIago (talk) 15:29, 12 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

I put Categories pop for discussion 🙏

edit

Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2025 June 19#Category:Character pop - I figured I'd put this in this talk page as this discussion would only be complete with the editing of the template User:D Kirlston - talk 02:31, 19 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

It appears that this category is assigned to all pages in article space that use this template. That is not necessary; there are tools to make such lists. It should be removed entirely. – Jonesey95 (talk) 04:17, 19 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Proposing removing categories per WP:TEMPLATECAT

edit

I propose removing all of the "Character type categories" from this template per WP:TEMPLATECAT: it is recommended that articles not be placed in ordinary content categories using templates. Categories should be assigned manually on article pages. – Jonesey95 (talk) 04:17, 19 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Gender

edit

i think gender should be added for characters. any thoughts? Robloxguest3 (talk) 19:18, 22 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Why? DonIago (talk) 20:44, 22 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
I think it would be helpful to say what gender a character is because it adds info and could be useful when:
  1. There was a dispute about what gender a character is (because people on wikipedia tend to argue about that)
  2. A character that is not human may be hard for people to recognize as a male or a female
  3. Adds info to an article
So yeah that's why I think it should be added. Robloxguest3 (talk) 16:07, 23 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
You may want to review WP:INFOBOXPURPOSE. Your arguments seem to be that an infobox would supply information not otherwise available within the article, but the infobox ideally should be summarizing the article in any case. DonIago (talk) 17:06, 23 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Template-protected edit request on 18 May 2026

edit
| image = {{#invoke:InfoboxImage|InfoboxImage|image={{{image|}}}|size={{if empty|{{{imagesize|}}}|{{{image_size|}}}}}|alt={{{alt|}}}}}
+
| image = {{#invoke:InfoboxImage|InfoboxImage|image={{{image|}}}|size={{{imagesize|}}}|upright={{{image_upright|}}}}}|alt={{{alt|}}}}}

Per WP:IMAGESIZE, this template should provide an option to use the more favorable upright parameter instead of solely relying on a fixed size. Red Shogun412 (talkcontribs) 20:43, 18 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Partly done: @Red Shogun412: this was partially done as you cannot remove {{{image_size}}} as that is likely in use... But I have added {{{image_upright}}}. Can you please take care of updating the documentation (Template:Infobox comics character/doc) to show the usage of this param? Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 06:13, 19 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

In the sandbox I added support for missing Module:InfoboxImage parameters, such as |image_class= to allow the class to be set to skin-invert-image, etc. I'd appreciate if someone could copy these changes in. – Scyrme (talk) 11:17, 24 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

To editor Scyrme: I notice that you added an extra brace symbol ( { ) just before an {{if empty}} template:
| image = {{#invoke:InfoboxImage | InfoboxImage | image={{{image|}}} | size={{{if empty|
...so, was this a typo? P.I. Ellsworth, ed.  welcome!  12:33, 24 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Paine Ellsworth: Yes, that's just a typo. I've amended the sandbox. Thanks for noticing! – Scyrme (talk) 22:18, 24 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
That's good! Are you sure there are no other typos? and have you tested your edits? (See WP:TESTCASES) P.I. Ellsworth, ed.  welcome!  00:51, 25 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I checked when I amended the sandbox. I tested in preview, but you can also look at the testcase I added at the bottom of Template:Infobox comics character/testcases. – Scyrme (talk) 14:15, 25 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, I don't see any difference on the test cases page. What exactly should I look for? P.I. Ellsworth, ed.  welcome!  15:59, 25 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
The new testcase is currently demonstrating |image_class= and |image_title=. The first is set to skin-invert-image, so in dark mode it's inverted. You see no difference because, presumably, you're not using dark mode. It works on my end when I switch between the modes. The second provides a "title" which appears as {{tooltip}} when hovering the mouse over the image. Additionally, in editing preview you can see the live version doesn't recognise either parameter, producing an edit warning, while the sandbox version produces no warnings. – Scyrme (talk) 16:17, 25 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Okay then, and  completed. P.I. Ellsworth, ed.  welcome!  20:17, 25 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! – Scyrme (talk) 20:52, 25 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
