Purpose

This template is the project banner of WikiProject Redirect. It should be added (not substituted) to the talk pages of subject pages that are within the scope of the project. This template automatically adds pages to Category:WikiProject Redirect pages.

Usage

Add the following at or near the top of the talk page:

Usage on talk pages of redirects

Everything that pertains to the improvement and maintenance of redirect pages in all namespaces of Wikipedia is important to this WikiProject; however, to tag each and every talk page of each and every redirect page with this template is not the purpose of this banner. This banner should only be placed on the talk pages of those pages that are about the improvement and maintenance of redirects, on pages such as:

The WikiProject Redirect talk page
Talk pages of redirect category (rcat) templates
Index talk pages – alphabetical index and index by function
The talk page of any Wikipedia page that is tasked with the improvement and maintenance of redirects
Aliases/shortcuts (redirects) that target the above pages

Note 1: While the above talk pages are eligible to be tagged with this banner, they should be talk pages that already exist.; Talk pages should rarely if ever be created merely to be tagged with this banner.
Note 2: If this banner is placed on the talk page of a mainspace article or redirect page, the following notification will appear in place of the banner:

The WikiProject Redirect banner should not be used on any talk page of an article or redirect page in mainspace. Please delete this banner from this page immediately. Thank you.

The project banner will not appear, and the page will be sorted to Category:Pages with templates in the wrong namespace.

Exception (rare)

The |mainspace= parameter is used for those rare exceptions, for example, shortcut redirects from mainspace to another namespace. This banner may be used on such a shortcut's talk page if it already exists. The format is |mainspace=need or |ms=need.
