Purpose
editRedirects from "CamelCase" to conventional spacing and capitalization should use this redirect category template. It is more specific than using R from alternative spacing, R from other capitalisation, and/or R from alternative spelling for these cases.
In the first versions of Wikipedia, links and page URLs used CamelCase versions of the page titles. When the rule changed in 2002, page URLs were changed to a more conventional format (the page title, with the first letter capitalized, and with spaces replaced with underscores; e.g., ".../CamelCase" was moved to ".../Camel_case"). The revised Wikilinks are surrounded by doubled brackets, spaces are retained within, and the case of the first letter does not matter; all for ease of linking. Moving those pages left these redirects to keep old internal and external links working. They are a historic part of this encyclopedia.
Usage
edit- This redirect category (rcat) template populates Category:Redirects with old history and, when the redirect is in the main-article namespace (mainspace), it also populates Category:Unprintworthy redirects by default. In 2003, efforts were begun to support the Wikimedia Foundation's goal of increasing access and availability of Wikipedia articles in printed versions. Mainspace redirects from old CamelCase titles are not suitable for a printed version. In other words they are unprintworthy.
| Please do not alter the printworthy settings of this rcat without first notifying the Version 1.0 Editorial Team, who are responsible for any and all materials, including redirects, that go into a printed version of Wikipedia. |
- Add this rcat to a redirect in the following manner:
#REDIRECT (target page name)

- and when the redirect is in article mainspace, printworthiness should also be tagged:
#REDIRECT (target page name)

- Template Rcat shell is an alias for the Redirect category shell template, which may be used to add as many appropriate rcats as needed, usually from one to seven, along with their parameters, to a redirect. For more information see the documentation on its template page. This rcat may also tag a redirect individually:
#REDIRECT (target page name)
R from CamelCase
- This is in accord with instructions found at Wikipedia:REDCAT.
- Use this rcat on any redirect from a CamelCase title. An example is AtlasShrugged
Atlas Shrugged. These redirects are kept to maintain edit history and to avoid breaking links that have been made to the redirect, both internally and from external websites. See WP:LINKROT.
