Description

edit

{{RUW squad player|nat|name|ru=|born=|dab=|disam=|nolink=|u=|cap=|captain=|cc=|vc=|st=|wtg=|dev=|res=|inj=|ex=|group=}}

Produces a single squad list entry with a women's rugby flag icon ({{ruwicon}}) and wikilinked player name. For men's squads, use {{RU squad player}} — identical except it uses {{ruicon}}.

Use inside a squad table opened with {{Rugby union squad start}}.

Parameters

The nationality code and player name are positional — no parameter name is needed, just separate them with a pipe:

  • 1 — Nationality flag code, e.g. ENG, IRE, NZL, RSA.
    • For unknown nationalities a fallback option is available, use ?. If you want the fallback flag, this parameter must be left blank or set to ?. Only {{RUW squad player||Example player}} or {{RUW squad player|?|Example player}} will trigger the fallback; {{RUW squad player|Example player}} will not work and instead result in an error.
  • 2 — Player display name, e.g. Marlie Packer.
Disambiguation shorthands

Most rugby union player disambiguation falls into one of two patterns, for which shorthands are available:

  • ru=y (optional) — shorthand for dab=rugby union. Links to Name (rugby union).
  • born= (optional) — year only, e.g. born=2000. Shorthand for dab=rugby union, born 2000. Links to Name (rugby union, born 2000).
  • dab= (optional) — full disambiguation term for any other case, e.g. dab=rugby union, born April 2000. The template builds the article title as Name (dab) automatically. Use when neither ru=y nor born= covers the article title exactly. disam= is accepted as an alias.
  • nolink=y (optional) — suppresses the wikilink, outputting the player name as plain text. Use for players who do not yet have a Wikipedia article.
Other parameters
  • u (optional) — y/yes or 20/21 — renders the name in italics, indicating a U20 or U21 international. Mutually exclusive with cap=; if both are set, cap= takes priority. Also set u=20/u=21 or y in {{Rugby union squad end}} to activate the legend line.
  • cap (optional) — yes or y — bolds the name (internationally capped player). Overrides u= if both are set. Also set cap=y in {{Rugby union squad end}} to activate the legend line.
  • captain (optional) — yes or y — appends (c). Also set captain=y in {{Rugby union squad end}} to activate the legend line.
  • cc (optional) — yes or y — appends (cc). Also set cc=y in {{Rugby union squad end}} to activate the legend line.
  • vc (optional) — yes or y — appends (vc). Also set vc=y in {{Rugby union squad end}} to activate the legend line.
  • st (optional) — yes or y — appends ST (short-term signing). Also set st=y in {{Rugby union squad end}} to activate the legend line.
  • wtg (optional) — yes or y — appends WTG (wider training group). Also set wtg=y in {{Rugby union squad end}} to activate the legend line.
  • dev (optional) — yes or y — appends DEV (development squad). Also set dev=y in {{Rugby union squad end}} to activate the legend line.
  • res (optional) — yes or y — appends * (residency/dual nationality). Also set res= in {{Rugby union squad end}} to activate the legend line.
  • inj (optional) — yes or y — appends an injury icon next to the player name. Also set inj=y in {{Rugby union squad end}} to activate the legend line.
  • ex (optional) — Free-text note rendered as an inline letter superscript (e.g. [A], [B]), with the full text in the reflist at the bottom of the table.
  • group (optional) — Reference group style for the ex= footnote. Must always be set explicitly in {{Rugby union squad end}} if ex= is used in any player entry. In normal use set to upper-alpha, which renders markers as [A], [B] etc. Does not need to be specified on individual player entries when using the default upper-alpha style. See below for available values and important notes on compatibility with {{efn}}.
Reference group styles

The group= value controls how inline note markers are displayed. The following recognised MediaWiki styles are available:

  • upper-alpha (default) — renders as [A], [B], [C]
  • lower-alpha — renders as [a], [b], [c]
  • lower-roman — renders as [i], [ii], [iii]
  • upper-roman — renders as [I], [II], [III]

As a last resort, a custom string such as group=NZ also works but outputs [NZ 1], [NZ 2] rather than letters, so one of the named styles above is preferable where possible. When a page contains more than one squad table, each table must use a different group= value to keep their note lists separate. The same value must be used consistently across all player entries and this template for a given table.

Note: lower-alpha should be avoided on pages that use {{efn}} without an explicit group, as {{efn}} defaults to lower-alpha internally and will conflict with the squad note list, causing non-squad notes to appear inside the squad table. If lower-alpha must be used, ensure all {{efn}} calls on the page explicitly set a group, e.g. {{efn|group=note|Your note here}}, and that a matching {{notelist|group=note}} is present at the bottom of the page.
