Mr. Hockey: The Gordie Howe Story

edit
  • Source: 1. David Hinckley "Hallmark's know-Howe on thin ice" New York Daily News ProQuest 13.48275726 quote: "A HOCKEY biography might seem like an unusual digression for Hallmark, whose movies almost all revolve around family love stories." 2. "Hallmarks Mr. Hockey darts all over the ice" The Commercial Appeal ProQuest 2594508546 quote: "Hockey on the Hallmark Channel? Cable dramas and cable networks often adhere so strictly to formula that any deviation is welcome. But Im still scratching my head over Mr. Hockey: The Gordie Howe Story. In stark contrast to Hallmarks regular slate of romances, Mr. Hockey focuses on a brutal sport, one that is not necessarily the favorite of female viewers."

  • The synopsis is misleading. National Hockey League sponsorship of junior ice hockey teams ended in 1967. Please see NHL entry draft for details. When the Howes played for the Toronto Marlboros, it was not a farm team for the Maple Leafs, rather it had only common ownership. Please respond, and I will be glad to do a full review on Monday. • Done, thanks! I truly appreciate having a WP Ice Hockey editor bringing specialized knowledge to this review. – Reidgreg (talk) 16:58, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
QPQ: Done.
Overall: The article was expanded more than fivefold on May 1, and was nominated for DYK one day later. Length and sourcing are adequate. The article is neutral in tone, and I detected no plagiarism issues. Both proposed hooks are interesting, cited and verified by the sources. Here's an additional clipping for the first hook. The film poster image used in the infobox is correctly licensed as fair use. Other images in the article are from the Commons and are public domain. The QPQ requirement is complete. June 10 is a valid suggestion for special occasion to run the hook. Flibirigit (talk) 13:55, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
