Medway Street footbridge

Twisted bridge in 2011
Twisted bridge in 2011
    • Reviewed: 2025 St. Louis tornado and Modulightor Building
    • Comment: If the reviewer does not find this interesting enough, I could create a hook about how the twisted bridge currently sits on the river bank to serve as a memorial.
Moved to mainspace by Panamitsu (talk). Number of QPQs required: 2. DYK is currently in unreviewed backlog mode and nominator has 76 past nominations.

  • I will review this nomination. – Editør (talk) 14:58, 25 May 2025 (UTC)
  • The article is new enough (moved to mainspace on 25 May 2025), is long enough (1953 characters of prose), has no apparent copyright issues (sources #1, #2, #5, #7, and #9 checked), and is presentable (per readthrough). The hook is cited, somewhat interesting, and short enough. I like your suggestion, if you'd add "old" at the beginning and add something about the memorial at the end, I think that could work. Could you propose an alternative hook? The image license seems in order, but I don't think this photo is clear at diminished size, I would prefer the other photo in the article. QPQ not yet complete, this nomination requires a second review due to "unreviewed backlog mode". Could you do another review? – Editør (talk) 15:31, 25 May 2025 (UTC)
Ok I've just finished my other review and have added it. Will propose an alternate hook later today. ―Panamitsu (talk) 22:45, 25 May 2025 (UTC)
ALT1:
"... that after the old Medway Street footbridge became twisted (pictured) in the 2010 Canterbury earthquake, it was turned into a memorial?"
It was only a section of the bridge if we're being pedantic but I think we can leave it out of the hook. ―Panamitsu (talk) 06:48, 26 May 2025 (UTC)
That ("part") could be easily fixed, plus some minor copyedits after reading ALT1, I propose ALT2 with the other photo that is more clearly recognisable as a bridge while clearly being twisted:

What do you think? – Editør (talk) 09:17, 26 May 2025 (UTC)
Oh yeah that works although I think there's a missing "of it" after "part". ―Panamitsu (talk) 10:45, 26 May 2025 (UTC)
With that fixed you get:
Approve ALT2b with second photo. – Editør (talk) 11:19, 26 May 2025 (UTC)
