LOT Polish Airlines Flight 703
edit- ... that despite being initially hailed as a hero, the captain and his first officer were later blamed for the crash of LOT Polish Airlines Flight 703 that killed 1 out of 29 occupants?
- Source: *"To była ostatnia katastrofa LOT-u. Słynny dziennikarz był na pokładzie" [This was the last LOT disaster. A famous journalist was on board]. Onet.pl (in Polish). 23 March 2024.
Na pokładzie samolotu rejsowego An-24 należącego do Polskich Linii Lotniczych LOT przebywało wówczas 29 osób ... W katastrofie zginęła jedna osoba[.] ...

Although Captain Rożek was initially portrayed in the media as a true hero, the Air Accidents Commission later determined that the cause of the Białobrzegi disaster was the crew's failure to activate the anti-icing system in time.]

Overall:
An article recently promoted to GA status. Nominated within the acceptable limit. The article is newutral and the spotchecks match. No copyvio issues. No QPQ required. No files to review. The hook is interesting but it is unclear: "initially hailed as a hero [singular], the captain and his first officer were [plural]". Also, the provided source also says that was the capitan, so, it is unclear why the first officer is mentioned here. The statement is not present in the article as well, at least not as presented here (see WP:DYKHOOK). Tbhotch™ (CC BY-SA 4.0) 05:55, 13 May 2026 (UTC)
- @Tbhotch: The reason why it didn't appear in the article was due to an edit conflict (which I've rectified). Regarding the captain/crew phrasing, the sources all follow the same format, in that they start off by saying that the captain was initially called a hero, but the crew were later blamed. The problem lies in that omitting the mention of the first officer would make it seem like the captain was solely responsible even though both of them contributed to the accident. Adding the mention of the first officer being hailed as a hero would not follow what the sources say, so this is pretty much the only phrasing that I could come up with that seemed to work. - @Aviationwikiflight: Then the hook needs to reflect what the article and sources says: ALT1: ... that despite the captain of LOT Polish Airlines Flight 703, which crashed, was initially hailed as a hero, investigators later determined the crew failed to activate the anti-icing system in time?, or ALT2: ... that despite the captain of LOT Polish Airlines Flight 703, which crashed, was initially hailed as a hero before investigators determined the crew failed to activate the anti-icing system in time?, ALT3: ... that the captain of LOT Polish Airlines Flight 703, which crashed with one fatality, was initially hailed as a hero, while investigators later blamed the crew?, or any similar hook. - Oh, sorry about that. I had forgotten to respond. Would this hook work? It's slightly shorter than the ones proposed but remains concise. ALT4: ... that before an investigation blamed the flight crew for the crash of LOT Polish Airlines Flight 703, the captain was initially hailed as a hero?
