Eugene Mori

  • ... that a successful PR campaign convinced voters to rename their city to Cherry Hill, New Jersey, in order to promote the Cherry Hill Inn, a business owned by Eugene Mori?
  • Source: "How Cherry Hill got its name If you grew up in South Jersey, you probably already know that Cherry Hill, New Jersey, got its name from the Cherry Hill Farm.", . "Championed by Republican congressman, William T. Cahill, the township resolved to get a post office of its own in 1959. But there was a hitch. A post office named Delaware Township already existed in Hunterdon County. So the Post Office Department insisted that the Camden County township pick a new name. Several names were considered (Barclay, Colestown and Moriville among them), but Cahill threw his support behind the name suggested by the Post Office Department – Deltown. And Deltown was very nearly approved by the township board until Eugene Mori and his publicity director Tommy Roberts went all out to lobby for Cherry Hill.... Roberts who did PR for the race track said he came up with the name Cherry Hill for a simple reason; to publicize the name of the Cherry Hill Inn.... On Nov. 7, 1961 residents voted 5201 to 3700 in favor of adopting the new name of Cherry Hill."

Missing one QPQ. A second one needs to be done because we are in backlog mode. Nice little article. I lived in Cherry Hill as a young child, so I enjoyed reading this. Article is new enough, long enough, and no copyright violations detected. No issues found. Hook is interesting and verified to the cited reference. I have no major concerns, and can give this approval as is. My only question is, would it be possible to create a lead section and put in a subheading over the body? The structure of the article is technically stub class at the moment on the content assessment scale because of a lack of a defined lead with a subheading over the body. This is not necessarily a deal breaker, but I do think it would prevent a stub tag from being slapped onto the article while its on the main page. Let me known what your preference is Alansohn, and I'll give it the tick of approval either way once a second QPQ is done. Best.4meter4 (talk) 17:45, 5 June 2026 (UTC)
4meter4, I will add the second QPQ review, as requested. I have a bad habit of creating the occasionally section-less article, but I will add, as requested, and as I should have done in the first place. I had known the Delaware Township to Cherry Hill story before, but the details I found in the source seemed rather hook worthy. Thanks for all the effort you put into the review.
